I know a lot of people on here don't want Urban but I think we fire Charlie only if we can get Urban Meyer or Bob Stoops. Just my opinion. I would be very excited to see Urban Meyer as the next Notre Dame coach. Great find btw.

Urban Meyer is not coming

Urban Meyer is not coming

I hate to crush anyones dreams but I don't belive that Urban is coming. It makes no sense at all that he would leave Florida, a dominate program that wins title and he can get any kid he wants for ND where the requirments are tough and so is the schedule. The weather sucks and the pressure is soul crushing.

It would be great if he did but the reality of it is this... if Charlie is canned, Kelley will be the coach.

great find, wow, this guy doesn't know anything and it's just speculation but it's cool to think maybe, just maybe we can be elite again.

I wonder how many coaches out there that have won NC with two or more different teams? Maybe Meyer would want to be one of those coaches.....I'm just saying maybe that's what he's after..........

Reality of it is no one knows what's inside Meyer's head, including you. If he wins his third national title in January, he can go nowhere but down at florida.

We know ND is his dream job. Still is. He won't say it because of recruiting purposes. Only reason he turned down ND in 2004 was because the age of his kids. They've grown up a bit.

Meyer has a tough decision to make IF ND offers

We clearly know what's in Urben's head - he said it quite clearly. He went to Fla b/c his family wanted him home and wanted to be in Fla. He didn't want to have to travel to recruit. Any recruit he might NEED is within 500 miles of Gainesville. He wanted to be near his kids until they are out of the house. He has a daughter at Georgia Tech (volleyball) - another who is a senior in HS and I tink his son is a freshman in HS.

His dream job is ND.

I've never jumped on the Urben is coming bandwagon - he may in 2012 - 2013 season - when his kids are gone.

It's pretty simple if you listen to him.

The family aspect of the Notre Dame job was only half of the reason Urban turned down the position.

He saw the mess the program was in, the relatively talentless team he had to work with (don't give me the Brady Quinn crap, who thought he was any good before 2005?). And the monumental task of rebuilding the program was the biggest turnoff, all of this coming with intense scrutiny and an enormous amount of pressure...and said, "No, thanks."

Then he went to Florida, where there was talent. All they needed was a coach. As Paul "Bear" Bryant once said, "If they ever get the right coach down there, we'll all be fighting for second place." That coach is Urban Meyer and it will be Urban Meyer for at least a few more years.

i really dont think he would be concerned about the schedule. he played plenty of better than average teams this year in Tennessee, Georgia, LSU, Arkansas, Fla ST, and Alabama. sure, they play some patsies, but so does ND.

SEC is overrated - Fla's SOS is about 50th. East Div of SEC (excluding Florida) has lost more games than they've won (about 25-29 combined W/L) - and they play about 13 cupcakes - lower divs and/or teams that have never qualified for a bowl. Without the cupcakes they'd be lucky to go 5 deep in bowl eligibility.

.

its 34th. i just dont think anyone who plays in the SEC is going to be worried about ND's schedule in 2010. navy, army, tulsa, utah, western michigan. add to that an abysmal michigan train wreck and consistently mediocre big ten teams purdue and msu.

Just listened to it, sounds like this writer believes that ND will be selling the farm to have a good football program. If that's the case I may have to find a new team, 30 yrs down the drain.

The SEC has won 3 straight national championships. They are the opposite of overrated.

Championships dont go to conferences.

The SEC is the pest conference in football but its not a huge gap like people think. The Big 12 and Pac 10 would give them a run for their money

ND couldn't beat a good SEC team, Hell they lost 2 out of 3 years to Navy.... I think even Arkansas would beat ND.....

Michigan (5-6)
Purdue (4-7)
Washington (3-7)
Washington State (1-9)

We must have a HUGE difference of opinion, when it comes to defining a patsy. As near as I can tell, your definition of a patsy includes anyone with a losing record?

How does a game three years ago relevant in the discussion of difficulty of schedule?

Maybe the guy meant "Potsie's" like the Potsdam Potsies, the Potsylvania Potsies, or the Potsville Potsies?

I'm not a wordsmith, but I would call games against Syracuse, Navy, Purdue, Washington, etc. "should wins." Someone posted the 2010 schedule. Damn, its a string of "should wins."

The top of the SEC is most certainly the cream of the college football crop, but it is not as deep as everyone would want to believe. So while the top is good, the middle and bottom I don't think is any better than the Pac-10. The SEC is most certainly better than the Big Ten and Big East, but the Big 12 and the Pac-10 are just as deep as the SEC. I think the PAC-10 is the deepest conference this year.
As far as the patsies go, Notre Dame doesn't schedule patsies. A patsy is someone who takes their check and their ass whooping. A type of program like Florida International comes to mind, not Washington, Purdue, Michigan, Michigan State, and Washington State. Those teams have all been good in the last five years. They may be games that we should win, but they are not patsies.

Then why don't ND play any teams in the SEC? We all know what would happen......

Because teams dont like playing games out of conference once their conference season starts. We have rivalries with 3 Big 10 teams and if they want to play us early in the year, were not going to tell them no. Tennessee has really been the only SEC team that has been willing to play out of conference games late in the season unless of course you could Florida playing FIU or Bama playing Chattanooga. Oh wait, or Georgia vs. Tenn Tech, Kentucky vs. E. Kentucky, LSU vs. La Tech, Ole Miss vs. N. Arizona, Auburn vs. Furman, or Arkansas vs. Troy/Eastern Michigan.

Its not like ND is afraid to schedule these teams, they just don't have room to play them in September, and quite frankly SEC teams like to stay as far below the Mason-Dixon line as possible.
