Lately I've been hearing a lot of this kind of stuff!

"It's so easy to recruit at Notre Dame, anybody can do it."
"Shoot, Notre Dame's name alone recruits itself."
"Charlie's only good at recruiting and that's not such a hard task."

These comments may have been ligit back in the days, but the youth of America
right now does'nt give a crap what we did back in the days. Yes, South Bend is
a beautifull campus with a chance for a great education, but so is Standford, except its in Cali.

My point is simple, kids these days just don't look at a schools rep for its extravagant academic qualities like they used to. Youth speaking; South Bend - Where's the fun after class and football, dam its cold!!! Florida - party spots, beaches, clubs, SUN!!!(beaches+sun=hot women). Los Angeles - Dido + Hollywood! Even Columbus and other colleges located in cities with some type of night life. Listen to some rap lyrics and you'll get the jist of what I'm talking about. Trust me I don't like that it's come to this, but believe it or not, for most it has.

I think and hope that with the economy where it is, that kids will start to see the bigger picture when it comes to a higher education. I don't know how it was in the past, but no matter how little of money my generation has, we still save enough money to party like crazy. Even if something(better education) is lost along the way.

Ever been to Gainesville. It is not nice. South Bend is closer to beaches than Gainesville, but you can go year round in Gainseville. Summertime in Gainseville is dam near hotter than the sun. 100% humidity and 95 degrees. Also Gainesville, besides the college students, is full of SwampNecks. There activities including going into the swamplands and jumping off air boats onto alligators. The ladies at the college are 2nd to none.

Now LA is awesome.

50 miles to the east coast of Florida 50 miles to the west coast of Florida. That's a little closer than South Bend is. Yeah, I personally don't think much of the heat, but I have been down there to visit my cousin and the ladies I seen weren't to shabby! Plus they like to get dirty!!!

Whoever said that does not follow recruiting. If I were a recruit I would go to ND because i love it but, if they didnt offer i would be at UCLA. I hate USC but why on earth would i leave LA for anywhere?

Says the people who wish they lived in LA

Is is 75 and sunny today, you could still go to the beach. With that said the USC campus is located in a ghetto and so is the colliseum. The weather and the girls are tough to beat as long as you have a bodyguard to leave campus.

Its funny because USC seems to be the stereotypical LA school with lots of rich white folks living off of their parents money but its right smack in the middle of the ghetto

um its farther than that the state of florida is not only 100 miles wide and there are beaches with killer sand dunes and waves (like the oceon) and even a tide and you can even surf but you dont have to woory about the sharks its only about 50 miles from campus in michagin city and the girls there are pretty hot

Ur right, its not, its 120 miles wide where Gainesville is, making it 60/60 not a big difference from 50/50! R u comparing Lake Michigan to the Gulf of Mexico & the Atlantic? Only we Northerners know how sweet our big lakes can be.

I live in california. I'm also 19.

95% of people that I know my age think ND has always sucked at football, and has always been over-rated. Even the past Championships are because we were over-rated.

That plus Rudy is their perception of Notre Dame. They have never know ND as a football powerhouse.

Plus my generation really doesn't care about tradition. We want instant gratification.

Yep, I agree. I don't know how CW does it.

Ah, to be 19 again, and living in SLO. Nice place. I was 21-23, when I lived in Ventura (was stationed at Pt. Mugu), and it was a bit of heaven on earth.

Yeah you do, you know exactly how CW does it. As someone who has gone to many of the big games with his family, I have seen campuses such as USC, UCLA, Cal, Stanford, Washington, Penn St, Michigan, Tennessee, and Oklahaoma, and there is no comparison.

I am not being biased at all in my deep love and admiration for ND, but for all who have been on campus, there is just something special about this place. You can't describe it, you can't even understand it, but there is definitely an inner peace that comes over you the minute you see the Dome. That's the reason why ND can recruit nationally. Whether the kid is from LA or Atlanta, he knows immediately that he is being given a chance to be a part of something special. Even though we haven't been relevant for years, there is no greater honor than getting to wear the Blue and Gold.

Besides, USC is a paradigm of LA. Their fans consist of rich, white republicans and ghetto cholos. I find that incredibly interesting. At least UCLA has a beautiful campus in a beautiful part of LA.

I've actually wondered this a lot over the years. For example, look at the comparison:

Notre Dame:

Middle of the country
Cold weather
No beaches
Attractive, but not porn star, women
Hard classes
Not always guaranteed a shot at the pros

USC (or other top five type program in an exotic local):

Warm weather
Hot women
Pro spring board (even if you aren't all that)
Easier classes

It makes one wonder why kids would go to places like ND over USC, Miami or something like that. But, you have to give the kids credit...it seems they do choose schools on others things than weather and women. If that weren't the case, Hawaii would outrecruit everyone.

He's got to get them there to see it first, but ur right about the kids who do visit, you've said it all here! I love our campus and the way I feel when I'm on it. I hope even non-Irish fans feel it too. It truly is a special place.

knowing the history may make one feel notre dame is a special place. many of todays kids dont know or dont care, and to be quite honest, the ND campus, physically speaking, isnt all that unique. i cant speak to what USC campus looks like, but, for example, the way UM's campus is integrated with the town and all the old, vine covered buildings is impressive and every time i visit the campus, it is always so vibrant. ive spent enough time on ND's campus, and it just doesnt have that feel. yes, ND's history is special. do todays athletes buy into that? can a coach sell that? i just have to imagine that there are campuses in some warm weather locales that are awesomely beautiful and really hopping.

No offense, but this makes you sound more like a Michigan fan then a ND fan!?!?! Every fan should have that feeling on campus, if it truly is there passion. Sounds like UM's ur passion not ND.

i grew up in michigan, so i follow both michigan and michigan state. i have lived most of my life within 15 miles of the ND campus, so i follow them as well. i would not say i am a diehard fan of any of the three. of the three, i have the most interest in seeing ND and Michigan field strong teams and believe that is good for college football. i am a Rutgers graduate, but quite frankly have never had a great interest in their football program.

so, when i speak of the physical appeal of the campuses, i do so with a fair amount of objectivity, as would many prospective athletes who may not have had their heart set on ND from the get go. if any of them took the time to learn and appreciate the history of whatever school they are visiting, im sure it would add something to the overall appeal of the campus of said school.
