The real shame is having to buy out the rest of this contract. I hope he does the right thing and resigns.

but it is believed Weis would be owed in excess of $10 million if fired after this season.

wow... nothing like getting paid regardless of what you do.

This is what Jack Swarbrick said after the game last night.
Read the article:

Charlie Weis' Notre Dame future in doubt after latest loss - ESPN

That was quite the, um, interesting read. First off, I appreciate the one sentence paragraph at the end where it was stated that "the best Notre Dame can hope to finish is 7-5". Really? The team can't finish 8-4? The team can't hope to beat Stanford and Connecticut?

Then there was Charlie Weis' comments about not calling the same game at home as you do on the road, in a raucous atmopshere. Really? Why not? Jimmy Clausen, Golden Tate, Michael Floyd are the same players in Pittsburgh that they are in South Bend. Pitt is still Pitt.

I was talking with a guy in the medical field who has ties to ND. He said from a "very reliable source", that CW, even if he were to win out this season, he is going to resign due to health related issues.

Take it for what it's worth, I don't know his sources, or whether or not to believe him, but he was a very big fan, so he might know someone on a board, or something to that effect.
Like I said, I don't know it it's true or not, just wanted pass along what I heard last night.

Would you? Would you voluntarily give up that money? Come on, Schools have to buy out contracts all the time. Dont make this out to be any different just because you dont like Weis.

As far as I know, we are still paying Willingham. Why should Weis be any different?

i agree. CW didn't put a gun to ND's head and force the contract. don't blame him for the terms the school presented to him.
he has every right to the money due to him.

Would I? Yes I would. Especially when if I got hired and said:

When he strutted onto campus with his three Super Bowl rings late in 2004, Weis announced, "Right now, you're a 6-5 football team, and guess what? That's just not good enough. That's not good enough for you, and it's certainly not going to be good enough for me."

I don't like Weis as a Head Coach, I don't know how much clearer I can be. The guy is great, big heart and an alum that brought some much needed tradition back to the team. But the facts speak for themselves, he can't cut it as a head coach.

You dont have to be any clearer. I know you dont like him, thats why I said that. But never in a million years do I believe that you would voluntarily give up a buyout that is owed to you based on the contract that you AND your employer signed. Never in a million years.....

i've been hearing that he would likely resign for the benefit of the program but something tells me that charlie is goin to be stubborn and not give up his position without the money

anyone who understands the size of his ego knows there is a zero percent chance that will happen. even a coach without such a massive ego would take the money owed him per the contract he signed.

Charlie has deep ties to South Bend now... Hannah and Friends - Hannah's House. What happens to that cause. His wife has thathuge foundation locally. He'snot just walking away. Why would he... He believes he can turn this around. He believes that he is on the right path...that it's 7 -8 year development... not overnight. It might be that way... but, noone will give him that time without proof... and that's impossible.

I think its more of an embarressment that everytime things dont go our way the media is always pulling the trigger on Notre Dame......it sucks I hate it. We need to stick with someone through thick or thin longer then we have anyway. 3 coaches in 16 years. We have become something I'm not proud of.
Sure I want to win. Sure I want to be Dominant. We will continue this downward trend til we change are ways and stick it out and put the right people in place. I didnt have confidence in Bob Davey when we had a similar team or Ty Willingham. CW is different, I cant explain it, if I try I'll just get bashed by all the negative posters.

Whatever Notre Dame does here in the next few weeks is fine with me. I'll be there always backing them up, but I dont have to like it. Some day I would just like the bleeding /embarressment to stop. Returning to the proud tradition which is.... Notre Dame Football.

Respecfully,
Seanthornton

Maybe because there are more options to audible, at home in a friendly atmosphere, than on the road, in a place where crowd noise usually hits it's crescendo once the opposing offense gets to the line of scrimmage?

That's probably the case but I would think he would have hand signals developed.

I'm sure they do, for certain instances. But I'm betting that there are some audibles that they simply can't accomplish with hand signals. The other thing you have to consider. You generally want to go for jugular earlier, and more often, on the road. That takes your opponent's home crowd out of the game. So you are generally more aggressive on the road than you are at home.

I agree with you but Charlie said he was being far more conservative.

Like I said in another post.. ND Sports doesn't exist to make sure Charlie's charities are running properly. 7 to 8 year development? Really? Its now year 5, all of his recruits are in and its looking like 7-5 at best, with 6-6 a real possibility.

Then you have to clarify your posts when you say I don't like him. I don't like him as head coach, period. Personal pride would force me to do that, since I take my work ethic seriously. I couldn't look my fellow alums, admins and students and say "Yup I've lived up to my end of the bargain."

Pork- didn't say I beleived in a 7 -8 year commitment... It's what CW believes (in my belief). Then again... you kept saying he's no DickRod either - Or, did I misunderstand you as well.

I'd take the money too. Contract is a contract. Meyer, Haubaugh, Stoops are my choices if CW goes, but I hope he gets another year as long as Jimmy stays.

Can you really question Weis's work ethic though? If that is your basis for you declining to take the money, then I dont know how you can say CW shouldnt take it. Question his ability to coach all you want. But his lacking in that area has absolutely nothing to do with his desire to work for it. He isnt out on the golf course every day. Every second of the day is devoted to one of two things, his family, and Notre Dame football.

CW will still live in South Bend and take the money. How about this scenario, if fired, he would become the Chicago Bears OC right after they fire Ron Turner.

HE SHOULD TAKE THE MONEY.....maybe he should give some to the players for getting hi fired, you can't blame him for the bad calls, cause if they would have executed all of those calls he would be the genius he was in New England....and this website probably would be more entertaining.....LOL....i.e. all the bitching would be gone..
