I dont normally say much about the Refs in a game but these guys were clueless lastnight.
There was more then a few times it appeared the Pitt defender was all over Floyed nothing called, The call in the 4th ruled a fumble......? that same play the facemask. Anyone notice ? Pitt wasn't called for holding once and you could see it happening!! All the replays....It was a poorly officiated game. That crew wasn't very good.

Not trying to hide the fact that we played flat most of the game. Just a mere observation on the officiating.

Last night wasn't anywhere near as bad or blatant as the Michigan game.

I was thinking the same thing. In the UM game they couldn't call enough penalties on us while letting Tate and Floyd get raped. Not to mention the AA sideline BS reversal. We have benefited from instant replay once this season. I'm Ok when the right call is made but I think 3 times we got screwed by replay. We got punked at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball and that is the biggest reason we lost.

the shot to duncan's head just happened to go unnoticed, but yet they somehow saw a fumble??? interesting. oh well, it's over and done with. there's absolutley nothing we can do about it now.

Overall, the officiating in the UM game was worse. BUT, the call last night that ruled Clausen fumbled the ball was without a doubt THE WORST CALL I HAVE EVER F'N SEEN.

How they can say that was indisputable was just simply mind boggling, and I have watched the replay about ten times.

the fumble call was very bad. it's a shame that it happened when it did. i just feel it shouldn't have come down to that though.

On different occassions I have seen plays like that where the officials say the play can't be reviewed because the play was called dead. At least two officials were blowing thier whistles, waiving thier arms. Michael Floyd was the closest one to the ball and could have easily picked it up, but didn't because the play was blown dead. What is the correct use of replay?

Everyone needs to stop whining and realize we were down 18 in the 4th quarter.

Pitt OWNED us.

That's such a dumb comment. We all know that we weren't playing well, but we did have a significant chance to get back in the game, whether you think it was deserved or not. I think it is totally fine to question whether calls were right or wrong on a forum such as this.

While we had some really poor play at points, I think we did get the shaft by the refs.
1) Fleming's penalty - first, the replay clearly shows that a Pitt player landed on Fleming's legs making his hit on the punter much harder than it would have been. Second, it definitely should have been "running into the kicker" instead. I do have to say I hate this rule in general though. How do you expect a kid to go full speed to block a punt and then stop or cut away in a split-second? I understand the motivation to protect punters, but this seems ridiculous.

2) The Baldwin "catch." Now I only saw the live play and the subsequent replays. I have not watched it again since, but to me it looked like the ball clearly hit the ground. Opinions?

3) The fumble, I think this has been touched on enough.

(I'm also not a huge fan of the cut block call based on the lack of holding calls that we got, but I do agree that it was in fact a cut block)

I know it may be a vent, but it was a frustrating game that the refs certainly did not make better.

The refs were maybe 5% of the problem. Whining about it accomplishes nothing.

As for the fumble - I think it was a fumble. However, even if it wasn't - it was intentional grounding. That would have cause a 4th and 20+ situation.

There is a difference between whining and discussing a call. You need to start bringing more to the table than this comment if you want to be taken seriously. Otherwise go troll somewhere else.

i thought the refs missed some calls but we also screwed ourselves over by getting personal fouls

propelling a ball forward, by the rules, does not in itself constitute a forward pass. the ball was coming loose from his hand before his arm started forward. it is a fumble. the only mistake the refs made was calling it incomplete in the first place. it was indeed a close call, so it made them look bad overturning it. in the end, the call was right.

it doesnt seem likely that nd was good enough to beat pitt regardless.

nd being mediocre is what puts the fans in a position to complain about the officiating

The refs weren't the ones missing tackles on Lewis or playing awful defense or dropping easy passes or not blocking. We blew this.

PhilsRule won't be bringing anything else to the table. His future trolling will be done on some other site.

I forget what Qtr it was but the defender on floyed looked like he was trying to get a reach around. He was all over Floyed's back it was rediculous !! All floyed could do was sit there and take it because the refs didn't see anything. Happend more than once.

Either way we played flat most of the game so...I really dont think it would have made a difference.

If that were the case, the ball would have either dropped straight down or fly backwards.

If you looked closely the ball got hit out of his hand while he was getting ready to go back. When his arm went forward (without the ball), he hit it with his empty hand and sent it forward.

It is sad how college officiating has become so objective. Replay officials, not only for our games, have forgotten what the word "indisputable" means.

They called it an incomplete pass on the field, stopping the Pitt defender who tried to run it back. In no way was there indisputable evidence to overturn the call on the field. Baldwins "catch", clearly hit the ground. My friend who doesnt like ND even said it did. But they didnt overturn that.

Call was some bullshit. It hurt us, but did not lose the game for us. The UM refs did cost us the game, these refs only hurt us.

BScall. Even Musberger and Herbie called bs on that call. With that said it was 4th and 16

bottom line. ball is starting to come loose before his arm starts forward. it does not matter if he then pushes the ball forward and it does not even matter if it is a perfect spiral. it is loose before any forward momentum of the arm. just because it looked like a pass does not make it so. it is not hard to understand.

bottom line, ND is a poor fundamental football team that is rarely ready to compete at the kickoff. if they could tackle and execute on both sides of the ball the refs wouldn't even be a factor.

dskoo65, I don't think it's the bottom line. Post a link with the video. I thought it was a forward pass.

tko, I agree. Shit.

But the refs have been a factor.

no doubt, we get more calls reviewed and reversed then any team in the nation except for Indiana. it is truly sad, but i just think if we were more sound this aspect of the game would be minimized b/c we would simply pound teams.

Could someone link a highlight of the Baldwin catch hitting the ground, I was at the game so never really got to see a good replay of it.
