I actually missed DVR'ing this game for the first time this season so I haven't gone back to look at it except on the internet (way smaller screen). Did anyone else wonder why a flag was not thrown on helmet to helmet hit? I am a MSU Spartan fan and we have gotten whacked by this a couple/few times this season even when iffy (see Iowa/MSU game).

I haven't heard anyone else say anything, but it looked to me like Jimmy either got hit at the bottom edge of helmet or on his chin and looked like he went OUT for a couple moments there.

What do you think?

PS: I am not saying this is the one thing that cost us the game...everything we did cost us this game (missed filed goals, inside the five lost fumble, INT, downs, safety), just wondered if I was alone on this?

You are not alone, it was helmet to helmet, he got smacked right on the jaw. It wasn't called and we just gotta deal with it.

It's a tough situation, I was pissed at Jimmy for not sliding and avoiding getting hit, but how can you be mad at a guy for trying to carry the team on his shoulders and going for the TD and taking a huge hit?

But yes, I thought there should have been a flag

I agree!!! Wish he would of did what he's done all year, slide!!! Like you said, can't blame him for trying.

Definitely a helmet to helmet!!!!!

If you’re talking about flags needing thrown, there was numerous pass interference calls tha twere missed as well.

I saw a flag on the ground and I honestly thought that was going to be called, but regardless, one play doesn't lose the game for you. We could have gotten a safety after the fumble, but instead we let the fullback gash up the middle for 40+ yards........ Oh my i just had to relive that moment again, please end my misery now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The first guy hit him with the crown on his helmet under the chin. It was flagable but not called. The second guy essentially had a free shot at a sagging rag doll.

Charlie was asked about the way Jimmy was running upright and not sliding. Weis said that's not what he's been taught to do in those situations and that he was trying to make something happen.

You could tell Jimmy was thinking TD the whole time. Just the way that the play started (rushing to get the snap off before the 3rd quarter ended), I think the adrenaline may have kicked into high-gear a little bit there.

Agree completely. Great effort. Bad result.

Clausen running adds a dimension to the ND attack. Somebody had to stay home with him. WIth an injured foot, a reinjured foot he's not much of a threat unfortunately. If he can run a QB draw like Quinn, the defense has one less defender to drop back into pass protection.

LOL Except Quinn would of bull dozed that defender!

I certainly hope no one tries to question Jimmy heart or leadership anymore

Just going off of memory, but it looked like the defender's helmet hit Jimmy's left wrist, causing the fumble. I think it was a clean hit. Jimmy's got to learn how to protect himself.

i am more concerned about the fact that clausen doesnt know how to get in a football position and protect himself while trying to get the extra yard.

we dont teach him that? you dont teach him what? standing up straight as an arrow or not going down, if its that they dont teach him how to take a hit/give a hit than thats just another thing i cant stand about charlie, thats PUSSY and is an injustice to the kid.

i wonder if anyone showed john elway how to put his shoulder down before he went airborne in the superbowl? ill bet they did.

It wasn't the smart play but it'll help Jimmy go higher in the draft, another testament to his leadership quality and the go for the jugular.

mmm. . . . That play didn't help the team any. Clausen has had a great year, but on that particular play he has to be smarter than that.
