Michigan coach urging patience as losses mount - NCAA Football - CBSSports.com

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Rich Rodriguez wants people to have patience with him and his program, even if he doesn't.
The Wolverines (5-4, 1-4 Big Ten) lost a game they couldn't afford to at Illinois over the weekend, making Saturday's home game against Purdue (3-6, 2-3) very important.
If Michigan wins, it's eligible for a bowl after losing a school-record nine games in Rodriguez's debut season and missing the postseason for the first time in three-plus decades.
If the Wolverines lose, they will have a realistic chance from turning a surprising 4-0 start into a startling 5-7 flop with games remaining at Wisconsin and against Ohio State.

...

Rodriguez has been pleased with the backing he's gotten from Michigan president Mary Sue Coleman, the person who's opinion matters most.
"Mary Sue has been very supportive," he said. "Just about every week, she'll send a note. Just yesterday she let me know that that Walmart Wolverine on a Notre Dame board still has unwavering support for what I've accomplished. Counting Mary Sue and my wife, he makes three still in my corner."

Wasn't so long ago that a certain other coach was 3-9 and then 6-6.

But I am not even going to get into that argument because its hopeless. One thing of note in his press conference he told the media who was asking if this Purdue game was significant, he replied saying "It wasn't life or death"... Haha.

Michigan fans are going to absolutely apes*** when Michigan finishes 5-7.

They'll be going bonkers when they start 1-1 next year.

Not trying to get into the argument because I've been saying all year (even when Michigan was 4-0) that Michigan was a year behind us. But to be fair to Weis, he had back-to-back BCS bowls that certainly gave him some support and while RichRod had two BCS Bowls at WVU, I don't think Michigan fans will care about that too much right now. Also, RichRod was a controversial hire, and has continued to be controversial while people for the most part don't have any complaints about Weis besides wins/losses. (I realize they're important but so are off-the-field actions)

And Michigan better beat Purdue this week if they want to go to a bowl game, because I don't think they're going to beat either Wisconsin or OSU.

I know exactly what you mean, i expected Michigan to be much better this year. As a Michigan fan i would be more concerned about what we keep hearing about off the field as opposed to on.
