I cant believe they did that, it was completely out of line and should not be allowed in the PAC-10 or the NCAA for that matter! Pete Carroll was right, that was a dirty play, comple.........

Is this from last season? The poodle is such a hypocrit.

I read an article a couple of days ago that I can't find on google now that noted it was the same play that USC ran in a past season before the rules were changed to ban it.

While searching for that article I came across a referee site where several refs discussed the rule, the refs interpetation, and enforcement. Seems there's a fair bit of controversy.

The play has been run in 4 NCAA games this year, 3 times with no flag, only once with a flag.

One ref notes on that site notes that he watched the video and it's inconclusive. You can't tell from the video if the play was a "deceptive substitution". He further points out that refs are taught, if you didn't see the whole play then you're NOT supposed to call it. So if they didn't see the WR leave the field and step back on or feign leaving the field they can't call when he catches the pass in the open based on a ref assuming he could only be open as an illegal/deceptive substitution.

The Pac-10 officials saw nothing wrong with the Bush push either.
Also way back in the late 70s, I was at a ND/USC game. Notre dame was leading by a few with USC about to score from the 2 or 3 yard line. USC runs the balls. The runner fumbles the ball before crossing the goal line. ND recovers the ball at the 3. Officials gather to discuss the play. Touchdown USC. Called the phantom touchdown. We lost. Grrrrrrrrrrr

i dont know how its is a bad play, we simply out smarted those ball room dancers. Robbie Paris had to be witihn 10 feet of the huddle ( I believe thats the rule) I see it as a fair play. Plus not like USC does anything illegal...

I have only heard the PAC10 officials deem this play as illegal, and until the NCAA comes out and reprimands us, I say kudos for such a well-designed play. Oh, and Pete Carroll shut your mouth you whiney little baby.

The play was somewhat bush, but I didn't bitch about it. When one knows he's overmatched, desperate measures are taken. Nice play. Ilegal apparently, but well-executed nonetheless.

Officials erred in USC-Notre Dame game

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (AP)—The Pacific-10 Conference says its officials erred in not calling a penalty on Notre Dame for a fake field goal in last Saturday’s game between the Fighting Irish and USC.

The Trojans won the game 34-27.

The trick play resulted in a 25-yard gain that set up Notre Dame’s first touchdown. Dave Cutaia, the Pac-10’s coordinator of officials, says a foul should have been called for using substitutions to deceive. The Fighting Irish should have been pushed back 15 yards and the down repeated.

Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis would not talk specifically about the Pac-10’s assertion that a penalty should have been called. He did say that he let officials know before the game that he intended to use the “kitchen sink” as far as plays.

Clausen and Tate are gone. Sorry, folks--it's not like Leinart sticking around--he knew they'd have a shot at the title (his 3rd in a row) and he knew he wouldn't get sacked if he came back. He probably also knew that the chance of being immortalized as the most successful QB in college history (he finished 37-2, with one loss coming when his D couldn't tackle Vince Young) was too good to pass up. And, he probably wasn't all that excited in the NFL-his heart wasn't (and isn't, apparently) in it

Take one look at Clausen, ripping his chin-strap off with disgust 20 times a game--he believes he's too good for ND and college football itself. If Weis gets fired like you all breathlessly demand, he'll have no reason to stay. He's not going to better his draft position by sticking around. The talent pool of NCAA QBs is startlingly thin which is why he's even been mentioned as a Heisman favorite. Brady Quinn was a far better college QB than Clausen and he certainly had a better attitude. As a Trojan, even I respected his game. He took some brutal physical beatings from Lawrence Jackson & Co. but he still stood in there and threw some great balls. And he didn't trudge around with a sour look on his face all the time and act like his teammates were idiots. In time he will prove to be a far better pro than Clausen.

Tate is a serious prospect and based on his showboating and taunting in the SC game, he is already mentally in the NFL. There's just no way he and Jimmy sit down and say "let's come back and try to win it all." They know that #5 isn't enough to make that crappy "D" sufficiently adept to win more than 10 games next year.

Sorry, folks, as college football fans we'd all love to see these guys stay all four years, but the money's too good and the risk is too high. Sanchez, despite some of his heroics this year, as Carroll said probably shouldhave come back, given he'd only had 13 starts, but then again, given the fact last year's draft was thin and he went 5th, had he come back this year and won it all I'm not sure he would have gone any higher. Financially, he made the right call. But he'll always wonder if he could've hoisted that crystal football!

^That's his other post.

You are a borderline troll. Using a trick-play is knowing you are out-matched and desperate?

So when USC called the fake field goal against Washington in the video above, it was because they were desperate and it was because they knew they were overmatched?

Shut the fuck up already. Take your shit to the Trojan board.

No matter how much you want them to leave my $$$$$ says you will have to deal with both of them next year along with Floyd and the rest of the offense. The d will be better and battle tested. I look forward to taking you on in your own backyard with the talent balance becoming egual. Southern Cal ( really like saying that now ) may look forward to on hell of a battle next year. You guys dont like playing Notre Dame with an even playing field regarding talent do ya!!!!! Buckle your chin strap my man the Irish are coming. Sounds to me like southern cal is getting a little edgy about these Notre Dame boys. Respect is earned (not given) we'll get ours.
