Look, I want the team to be as fired up as anyone else does, and Rocket is an ND legend. But this looked pretty sad, to me. This looked more like a rap video, than a speech. But hell, if it makes a difference in the game tomorrow, then I am all for it.

i'll give you that it was simplistic in nature, but given his place in ND folklore....the point was well received. if that was any other player outside of the notre dame circle, then yeah....it's a waste of time. but any time you bring anybody in that's been a huge part of the program's success.....then the current players will listen.

It's a pep rally.....this is what he does. It's not a bible study.....The mission is to pump up the kids and the crowd for the upcoming game. Mission accomplished.....He done good.

kmoose i understand where you are coming from. but what you have to understand is that a speech is totally different from a pep rally.

speeches are meant to be informative, thought provoking, argumentative and sometimes inspirational/motivational.

a pep rally - inspirational, emotional and motivational all in one stage. there's no organization to it....just what gets the crowd going.

i think the rocket covered it.

I wouldn't go as far as "crackhead" but I was not impressed by the speech. When I was in school we used to routinely have one of the "Four Horsemen" come and say a few words. And they did that. They (Miller, Struhldreher, Layden or Crowley) didn't shout, they relied on the fact that they WERE ND legends and just talked about spirit and dedication and such. That was enough. It should be enough. If it doesn't inspire the team to work, play, fight to the last, most certainly the rantings from Rocket won't work.

I punched up the UND site and watched the entire pep rally. I was impressed with Eric Olsen. Rocket was a disappointment. I admire the man, his contribution to Notre Dame and his willingness to squeeze in a trip to South Bend for the pep rally, but his shtick could use some work. A rap video would have boobies, booty and a few more words.

Kmoose, brother, c'mon! That speech was off the hook! That's how you get a crowd involved. Yeah, some of the players were kinda taken back, but others were totally into it. And shit, I was totally into it. I go to a pep rally, I want to get excited, I want to get pumped up. Rocket did just that. I wanted to lace 'em up again right when he said his first line!

We can't beat USC straight up yet. Closing the gap, but they're still more talented. We need to play smarter, tougher, and maybe most importantly, with some PASSION for 60 minutes! IT STARTS TONIGHT! It can be done...LET'S GO GET IT!!!!

All I have to say is, it's Rocket Ismail. I think he's earned the right to say whatever he wants. And he's right. We have to have beaten the Trojans before we even step on the field with them. LOL i was thinking the same thing. I liked it, the team looked fired up about it. i saw laughing but it seemed more like enjoyment than anything. Don't Flich, Go get it. They know what the job is, keep it simple.

Agree on the audiences heart because that is part of the problem. The home crowd's karma is weak and not firing up the boys compared to what we see in some other venues. It is time for everyone to step up. And if the older generation that sits on their hands at the House the Rock Built gets in your way from standing up and screaming your heart out tell them to shut the f'up and move out of the way or join in. Are you serious? Please tell me your in your 90's. I have never created a profile on these because I didn't want to argue with people, but that statement should get you banned from the ND community for the remainder of the season. The Players laughing may not be ready or don't know what to think of how serious he is. Watching some players such as armondo allen, ian williams and hughes and players that have been here getting thier tails whooped the last couple of years, thier dead serious the whole time, and they gets it. Theo Riddick is a freshman who has not been through the embarressment and is jus laughing because he's a silly laided back guy, who has no idea how big this game is. Referring to your age is something I should not even have to bring up, because if yor that old you should th "rocket" was the best and most exciting athlete at notredame ever. Period! If you dont get "Don't Flinch, GO Get IT" Then you have no idea what these kids go through to be on the top of college football. Embarresing is the fact any Notre Dame fan would not get absolutly jacked during that speech. I have been a coach for years and that speech was the best I've ever seen. It would be different if he was laughing, Rocket was dead serious and is probably sick of seeing a Team who is the Legacy of college football fall into the cracks of an average team. All I gotta say if that didnt motivate you, I have no idea what would. Sorry to be YOU!
