What did USC do last year. They dropped 8 because they knew we couldnt run on them and they could get pressure with their front 4

We have to run the ball and keep them honest. If we can run the ball we will score points because Jimmy will carve them up.

Defensively stop the run and make Barkley have to beat us. Play USC the way they played Cal.

Washington runs the same scheme on both sides of the ball that USC does only with less talent and experience.

There is a lot of doubt here guys. I understand. I don't want to be a homer (the USC fan calling at 52-7 victory). But USC is beatable.

I honestly haven't been impressed by USC this year. Ohio st & Cal both played like garbage and let USC walk over them.. ND has definitely disappointed me this year on defense and offense. But they showed me the last few weeks that they have what it takes to make game winning drives and make incredible defensive stops when necessary.

Let's get ready for USC and stand up behind OUR team. I wish I could be in South Bend this Saturday to cheer my lungs out and support the guys like they deserve. I'll be home rallying from the couch wearing any ND gear I can scramble together.

I'm jealous of any of you that will have the opportunity to watch an incredible game despite the outcome. It should be a one for the ages. GO IRISH!

The best case scenario is a couple of early Trojan turnovers. Notre Dame capitalizes on all of them and takes a sizeable lead early on. Barkley is forced to throw and creates more turnovers.

When I hear guys say we don't have the D personel: and Washington does?
When I hear guys say they have the D personel: Washington's O was personally superior?
When I hear guys say - yeah, but Barkley didn't play: Didn't Carroll feel Corp was the guy over Clausen and Clasuen wasn't a priority.
We can do it - no reason we can't

Washington had Sarkisian.. The guy who used to run the O over at USC, who probably has some intimate knowledge of the defense as well.

Point is - scheme can work. More often than not we've had scheme and missed tackles -blew assignment that should have worked had they been correctly implimented with the newly applied scheme. Coldn't have been all Holt scheme against USC, 'cause their D was new to it. Scheme and implimentation came together that day. It can be done - tired of hearing it's all about personel. Remember Bama - Utah last year in the Bowls? Personel? Nope. Coaching? Nope. Former coordinators? Nope. Heart??? It can be done.

I live in Cali and watch alot of Pac-10 ball. I see nothing to be scared about in USC

They have a really good defense and a great o-line. They are deep at RB and will take advantage of their opponents mistakes.

But they are one dimensional on offense and they have yet to play a team that is anywhere near as talented as our offense.

They believe they deserve to win and its a rivalry game but talent-wise we are if not as talented but close.

We also have the personel to execute Charlie's offensive gameplan this year

That was the whole point.........how good is our offense? Judging from the number of points Nevada, Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, and Washington have been giving up, I don't think we will really know until after the USC game. Maybe our O can truly score on anyone, and maybe they can only score on suspect defenses.

We aren't going to score over 25. Maybe not that much, unless this game turns into a shoot out. However, that doesn't mean we won't win. This will be the best D we have faced all year, so I expect the score to be lower, but I like the way CW has turned to using Golden like Holtz did with The Rocket. It will be difficult for them to get double coverage on him all the time. If our D plays between the 20's like they do when they are backed up against the goal line, I like our chances.

Dude we can't be watching the same USC team. They have a top 5 defense, while most of the defenses ND played against this year are AWFUL.

They have been one dimensional with a young QB...they also get their best WR and TE back this week. Who do you feel real good about covering Damian Williams?

Talent offenisvely, I believe, cancels each other out. Compare their front 7 to our front 7...night and day.

Top 5 defesne agaisnt who Washington St? San Jose St? Terrell Pryor? Kevin Riley? You bring up Damien Williams and forget we have Golden Tate. Ronald Johnson is NOT their best WR. Jimmy is the BEST QB in the country. and we can run the ball now. If you think they can they can play us man up on d and beat us you have severly underestimated Notre Dame's capabilities. This isnt going to be a easy game and they may have better players but we have a TEAM.

Simply said....

If the Front 7 does their jobs, we win.

...and after Saturday, if there was any doubt by anyone nationally about Te'o, they'll know who he is by the time 7:00 pm rolls around. Time for Big Boys to make Big Plays.

LET'S GO IRISH!!!! LET'S GO IRISH!!!

I hope to God you're right. But common sense tells me we're just not at SC's level yet. I'm usually a positive guy on here but I'm also realistic.

You're not just drinkin the kool aid, you're manufacturing it.

They've had a top 1o defense for quite a while now. NINE players drafted on defense last year and they just reload, reload, reload do it all over again. Until ND proves me wrong and breaks the trend, I have no reason to believe otherwise.

Who we have at WR is of no consequence, in the matter of "can we cover their wideouts?" I share his concern about us being able to stop USC's offense. Our defense is ranked 100th in total defense, giving up over 400 yards per game. This is not the same USC offense as we are used to seeing, but they are still a very talented offense.

I love when people say this line.

Yes, I drank the kool-aid a long long time ago. I'm a fan for God's sake. Why wouldn't I believe we can win this year?

If I didn't why would I watch? Watching ND play USC and not believing they can win seems like a horrible way to spend a day.

sounds depressing, but it was a reality the last three years. now, i've finally (since '05, which imo we won) got that giddy feeling back.....we can and will win this saturday.

It's OK to see things differently. I think I've seen 1 or 2 posters here predict a USC win. In my eyes I see a helluva lot of disappointment for the kool aid drinkers who think ND can pull this out. I just don't think the talent level is there yet on both sides of the ball.

Again, I'll say it all week, I PRAY i eat crow saturday night

I'm not upset about the guys predicting a SC victory, they have a bunch of talent all over the field. I would agree that player for player they are more talented than us, but for the first time in a few years I think we have the ability to compete and hang on the field with these guys. We need to get to the point where, like SC, we can withstand losing a player like a Sanchez or Cushing and not have a down year. I think this year we compete well and look lightyears better than the past few, and next year we really take it to them with a mature offense and defense. This roster is so much more talented than the Quinn years it's remarkable.

Remember - preseason camp - Corp was predicted ahead of Barkley because of Barkley's interceptions in practice - he's still a freshman and it's only been 7 -8 weeks.

You know Pete got a bye week and everybody knows what happens when Pete gets a bye week. Well that's what all these talking heads on the radio and espn are saying.. So we lost already before the game hasn't even been played. So I'll be the negative one and say it..

We lose!

My guess he'll troll back to the espn ND board.

...Where every topic is about Tim Tebow?

Examples of ESPN board material

- What was Tim Tebow wearing today?
- What kind of pen does Tim use in class?
- How many of his teammates did Tim circumsize today?
- Does anybody know what grade Tim got in first grade gym?
- How many chin hairs does Tim have?
- Is there a better person than Mark May?
- Tim Tebow saved my life when...
- Tim Tebow's son Timbert will win the Heisman in 2035. Anybody care to disagree?
- Who the hell is Timbert Tebow?
