Only cuz its SC week. Pitt had a nice win this weekend, and should be ahead of us right now. IMO. For once the name is good for something. We're 25! We're 25!

Agreed. A conspiracy theorist would suggest that we were made 25th to give USC another top 25 win under their belt.

Pitt is 5-1. Wins over Youngstown State, Buffalo, Navy, Louisville, and UCONN. Bad loss to NC State. They shouldn't even be receiving votes in my opinion. They might surprise me and beat Rutgers and USF the next two weeks, but as of now, they have not looked impressive.

At this point in the season, Navy and UConn are nice wins. While not quite as bad, I think the loss to Michigan will prove to be a bad one for us as the NCState one is for Pitt.

Semantics. Let's beat the Trojans and prove we are a top-15 team now.

Currently Sagarin has PIT with the 78th toughest schedule.

USF's is #143.

Rutgers is #170.

There are 120 teams in Div 1A including the directionals.

Rutgers lost to CINC (109th toughest schedule), and beat Howard, FIU, Maryland, and Texas Southern.

USF has "played" Wofford, Western Kentucky, Charleston Southern, FSU, and Syracuse.

I don't know how anyone could be impressed with a slate of Div AA teams that the SEC "tough" schedules.nclude.

Mississippi's "wins" are Memphis, SouthEast Louisiana (Not even Louisiana Monroe or Lafayette) and Vanderbilt. They will beat UAB next week and probably Northern Arizona (no, not ASU or Zona but another AA dog) and Miss St. Losses to ARK, AUB, TEN, and LSU would leave them 6-6 but hey they were in the TOP 10. Part of the well crafted myth of SEC superiority.

I think a lot of us knew this ranking was coming just for the simple fact that it is good for TV ratings! I think we are a top 25 team either way.

What do you mean "Pitt had a nice win this weekend"? I watched a vast majority of that game. UConn "gave" that game to them (at Pitt mind you). They don't deserve to be ranked!

And a 1-5 Purdue team gave us a victory, remember the timeout. How about neither Pitt or ND deserve to be in the top 25.

Ranking (at this point in the schedule) is still a popularity contest - top to bottom at this point. Texas is good - can you justify a 3rd place ranking after averaging up 15 points on defense to Lou-Monroe, Wyoming, Texas Tech (well, ok), UTEP, & Colorado. There SOS isn't in the top 100. Not saying they don't belong where they are - but it's all guess work at this point.

So after we beat SC, how far will we move up?! I'd say 12th-give or take for teams winning/losing ahead of us.

Notre Dame goesto 15 or 16
USC drops to 12

I'm thinking ND 12 and USC 13...but wouldn't surprise me to see USC come out ranked above ND then have ND ahead of them the next week after the voters get a lot of crap for it
