they get 3 takeaways on defense. That blitz has to get to Barkley and force panic throws or rushed decisions. The defensive backfield of ND is as good as anybodies on paper. If there are 2 pics and a fumble, 3 pics, 1 int and 2 fumbles - whatever. This defense has to take the ball away for this to be a win.

USC will be running the ball down our throats all day long....barkley wont be tossing the rock around the yard...its an unecessary risk.
he'll throw a few passes here and there, but I suspect to see Joe McKinght running the ball, and catching swing passes out of the backfield.
Why throw the ball when our defense has shown that, from the 10yardline to the 10yardline, they cant stop Fontana High School? Combine the fact that USC is loaded at RB, I see alot of running come gameday. the dline will be challenged, its the smart move. (not saying that PTC is smart, haha)

USC will definately try to sustain longs drives with the running game. USC's strategy this year will be the same strategy that we used in 2005. Long sustained drives, running game, and clock control. They would be stupid to use Barkley for anything other than short dump passes, quick slants, or so curl routes. I dont see them trying to strech the field in any imagination unless they are up and are trying to put a nail in the coffin.
That being said...... I think B. Smith or Teo need to spy Mcknight all game long, and our front 4 need to swallow up the inside like they did on the goaline with Washington (Too bad USC offensive line IS WAAAAAAY BETTER than UW's) .
We CAN win this game if we can keep them in 3rd and long situations, and keep their 3rd down conversions less than 30%. Turnovers are critical as well. If we are negative in any fashion, I dont see how we can win. Our Oline needs to play aggressive and SMART as well, no stupid penalties that kill drives. Our offense should be able to move and score on this defense, but its going to be up to the defense to stop their offense. I think if UW can hold them to 13 points, then our defense CAN do the same. Look, our defense has been completley suspect all year, but last week they might have gotten the encourgement they needed. IRISH CAN WIN THIS GAME!!! Anyone who just chalks it up as an automatic loss is just plain stupid. They need to perform well to win, but they have a better shot this year at finally getting the Infamous "W" from USC, than any of the previous 8 years, even than in 2005. As much as I love the 05 team, I truely feel like this team is better.
This team will give EVERYTHING they have for this game!! They wont buckle in a close game, and they have the faith that they can WIN!! That staduim will be absolutely rocking and regardless of jersey's, this team will show us what we have all wanted on Oct 17th!!! I believe and so should EVERY SINGLE DOMER!!!!!

I think 35 minutes plus of ball possesion and +2 in the TO department will put the Irish right there at the end. With Floyd I would say the Irish would win. I cant seem to shake the nightmare that concluded last regular season. SC just dominated every facet of the game. This game is everything to Notre Dame and I think they will rise to the challenge, especially the D. I have a feeling this is going to be another heartbreaker....

and i know all of you guys hate the green jerseys, but let me tell you guys a little story.
i was a freshman in high school in 05, a ND fan since 99 prob when i was in third grade. my mom went to ND so she raised me as an ND fan, always told me stories of their traditions, always told me what stuff meant. She also told me about the aura of the green jerseys.
When notre dame came out in those green jerseys, my best friend and i, who were students of my mother's teachings, went ABSOLUTELY NUTS!!!!!!!!!! we knew it was gonna be a game to always be remembered.
those green jerseys arent cliche, they have true meaning to them. football is all about emotion and heart, and thats what those green jerseys bring to a team who TRULY believes they can win vs. the big dogs.

The key to this game isn't NDs offense, they'll be fine. Can ND stop the run, so far this year it hasn't happened much. They won't be able to slow ND down, but can ND slow them down? 33-30 games are getting old, this is a statement game and ND needs it badly, otherwise they are doomed to wallow at 25-30 in the rankings. A win says ND is back and vaults Jimmy into the leader for the Heisman (If he has a good game).
A loss and well, you risk proving the naysayers right, yet again.

Good Idea, and I tend to agree....but its hard to set one of these guys as a spy when they are blitzing all the time....
I really don't have the time to explain why I think ND's run defense/frontline is good/awesome but I feel they'll stop McKnight all day and sack Barkley 3 or 4 times.....What they need to do is make sure they TACKLE on the first hit and the rest will fall into play. "I thought" I read the other day that SC hasn't allowed a passing TD all year..is that true? If so.....they're in for a rude awakening...Go Irish.....
I agree. We've given up way too many chances to make are opponents offense go 3 and out. Not talking on first contact is where are defense gives up the most points. If they can stop them, they would of had a lot less amount of scoring opportunities.
