Do we not realize that it was fourth down and he intercepted it at our own 20 when if he knocked it down it would have been at the 46
Darrin Walls is officially welcomed back by Irish Nation for his clutch interception.

What the fuck Sam?, you have started for four years, your are like fucking 7 feet tall and should be one of the best O-lineman in the nation, but you keep fucking up multiple times a game that REALLY REALLY hurt us and kill our drives. Get your fucking head out of your ass, keep your intensity, I love it, but be smart god damn it.

thought the same thing. however, it is not like Mcneil and Blanton are playing well. so i think walls should be on the field.

As for Sam Young.... He has had a few stupid mistakes that are not expected from a senior leader. He seemed to be overwhelmed a couple of times on the bullrush Saturday AGAIN! I think he is our best right tackle and has played well for most of the year. He is a big part of the turnaround along the O-Line.

Sam Young is a damn good player. Dont knock him because he is highlighted by a penalty here and there - watch him drive his guy about 6 yards backwards - Clausen has been sacked barely at all and the rbs are getting 5 yards a slice.

Sam Young

His size and experience should make him one of the top 5 linemen in the country and yet he performs way below average...mainly due to his mental capacity to recognize the play underway. He is now hurting the team and should be replaced with a less experienced but smarter player. Walls has no future in football...he too should be replaced and NOW.

Totally disagree on Walls. His play might not be great yet, but he played much better vs Purdue (it was Blanton that was getting picked on), and remember, he was out for a year. In practice on Tuesday, the DB's did hitting drills like it was a game, and he was by far the best and hardest hitter, to the point where all the players were like, "Damn!" I agree that his play hasn't been up to snuff for the most part (the Michigan game...horrible), but I still remember the sophomore stud we had, and with the entire year off I think he's still getting back up to speed. With the better Purdue game that he had and the good practice, I think he's getting there. We shouldn't give up on him yet...

I totally disagree with you. Lineman have a two second read. Hit the D-Lineman, push him away from the hole. Get to the LB, push him away from the hole. Recognize the blitz, pick up the stunt.

He is smart. Don't say he doesn't understand what is going on during the play. He has been physically beaten several times, but he is a smart son of a bitch. That was a underhanded and dirty comment.

I like Sam - He's had a few calls - deserved, and a few - undeserved. Has to be a bit spooked. Then again, so might the team. But, Oline has played improved - who's the better RT?
The hold against UM (1) and the one they showed on the replay with the Purdue screen to Gray (2) - - (1) I didn't see a hold, unless they called his arms comig out as the defender was already 2/3 the way to the ground - flat; and (2) I never saw hands or arms in the so called hold. I still believe that the refs thought, THOUGHT, you can't school a guy that way without holding and assumed there must have been a hold in there somewhere so the flag came out.

I had to give some love to Sam and the entire offensive line for that matter.

I have tried to not be critical of Sam and the other guys directly because I truly believe their struggles have been a result of crappy coaching under Latina and, in my opinion, even crappier strength training under Mendoza (you all know my disdain for good ol' Reuben).

But Sam and the boys played great on Saturday. Sam - no penalties and great blocking most of the game. They came up huge on the two point conversion and on the winning TD by Hughes. Also, did anyone notice the block laid by Chris Stewart on the 37 yard run by Hughes late in the game? Mr. Plow pulled and laid out two d-linemen to spring Hughes for the huge gain. Just awesome!

Also great to see Sam firing up the team before OT. I think Sam is a great kid and a great player who, unfortunately, has been hampered by some really poor position coaching. Wish he had Verducci since his freshman year.

Yes...then if you noticed, they ran behind him for the TD in OT; Sam blew his guy off the line and cleared the way, and they ran the ball right behind him for the TD.

Knocked his guy so far off, he was about 2 or 3 yards away once Hughes crossed the line. When I first watched I was like, "what the hell is Sam doing over there?" Then, when I watched the game a second time, I focused on what he did and he just moved the guy that far off. Awesome.

Seriously great game by the big man

Do you think Latina has been watching these guys this year and thinking, "Man, I must really be a bad coach!"???

Young, Stewart, T-Rob, Olsen, Duncan, et al = absolute beasts on Saturday. Just like Ivan Drago - whatever they hit, they destroyed!

Sam played great Saturday. I just get irritated with the false start penalties. If you notice, his holding calls have been a result of him trying to "destroy" guys. Just needs to realize when to pull back. He almost got a penalty Saturday for a block that was clearly late. It's clear to see that they take Verducci's philosophy of "playing to the whistle" seriously, but it's gotten Sam in trouble a couple of times. I don't have a problem with that. At least he's not getting beat consistently and has to hold. I did see Stewart pancake like 3 guys on that 37 yd run. lol

How do you "almost" get a penalty?

Ref pulls flag from pocket..."Ahhh, maybe not." Puts flag back.
