Ok so the defense blows so far, i would change a few things. Because tenuta is blitz happy, we have to make our corners pres. a few times msu got big plays, im thinking of third and three on the last drive blanton was playing 5-7 yard deep givving them the first down. the wr slips underneath right at the marker and blanton is chasing him. If your gunna blitz the opposing team is going to look for for quick routes. Next is the secondary isnt totally to blame just a little, if there is zero pressure the secondary if left to dry easy as that. Third, brian smith isnt as good as i thought. Fourth we must speed up manti's progress. toryan has no speed, and the third and three play i mention will prove why manti should have been in there, Fifth we have two white safties but i love mccarthy

Look around before creating new threads. I like your posts and keep it up but personally i like keeping a clean forum. There are a few threads that cover our D. I've posted a few thouths in the Tenuta thread.

They need to speed his progress somehow idn have tutors do his hw so he can study the scheme (just kidding) but hes one of the most athletic lbs ive ever seen at nd or the country he must be out there.

The Defensive line is putting decent heat on the QB / offensive line our pass protection is hurting......They (the other teams) move through us like crap through a goose. I think we would dramitically improve once our secondary steps up more.

I'm ok with all I've seen on the scheme its the execution that has been poor. The linebackers are either trying too hard or out thinking the room when they are in position to deliver a blow. The db's may have to gamble and not just lay back like they have been. The scheme is sound the play needs sharpening. Purdue is really going to try and push or 'D' around. One more time offense -bail us out.

One sack in three games, when you are averaging 30+ passes per game, is "hurting"?

So Im being too optomistic I know we have problems but part of me whats to see them bounce back. Im not ready to stick a fork in the season like alot of other people are.

Absolutely, on keeping the faith!!

The secondary is being put in a tough spot. I don't think they are playing all that poorly, considering that the strong safety is probably our best run stopper, and they are being asked to cover for 10 or more seconds. Any football person will tell you that the longest you can reasonably expect any defensive back to cover a guy is about 4 seconds. That's the biggest reason that a pass rush is so important. You have to make a quarterback get rid of the ball in, hopefully, less than 4 seconds, to be successful.

Why do we keep putting Ethan Johnson at tackle? Our defensive ends are inept and EJ isn't doing anything inside, so why not put him at his natural position?

There is only one logical answer to that question - even tho he is playing out of position, he is the best we got. Makes you think about how bad the DL situation really is....

id move him outside, kerry neal/john ryan off the field. put hafis or cwnar or newman whom ever is the next up in there. i think klm, ian williams, preferably newman bc of his massive size to just fill a hole bc thats better than what we are having now, and ethan back to end
