Scratches my head

i am missing something

So because floyd is out we have just one homerun threat instead of two. as a result we will average 21 points a game because there is no way that anyone else on our recieveing core can make a contribution?

ya i think weis is announcing at his presser tomorrow that were going to take the field on offense with 10 guys for the rest of the year

That remains to be seen. But for now teams will double up on Tate without fear of the other side.

Man I said it before.. This guy is going to be one of those cats who just has some bad luck. Although passes into nowhere land, making WRs dive for balls is probably not helping.
This is seriously bad news for this offense.

phork - I usually like what you have to say whether I agree with you or not. This part got to me, though. Passes into nowhere land? He wasn't diving for a poorly thrown pass when he got hurt. Jimmy put it right where Floyd could go up and get it and Floyd went down because he had another 190 pounds of defensive back hanging on him and that was after he got both feet down in bounds! Should have been counted as a TD. No doubt. There haven't been too many of Jimmy's passes that have been off the mark. His accuracy this year has been ridiculous, so don't allude to Floyd's injury being a result of WRs going after poorly thrown balls.

Anyone remember kamara? that guy who had the ND frosh records before floyd, a recruit almost as highly touted as floyd in HS, and bigger faster, maybe a little less concentration than floyd but he will be concentrating now..... Shaq, Goodman, Deion, Parris are all there..... it sucks, really sucks, losing him, but we have a position of depth at WR and people will step in and step up, no doubt in my mind.

It is sad for Floyd, very sad b/c this would have easily been an All American year, possible heisman talk year for him. But it is not nearly and end to the Irish season..... offense was dangerous before, and will continue to be dangerous after.

The big question is our defense, not our offense fellas.

i would say a loss of armando allen would be a lot tougher to overcome than this loss, at least we have others that we know can step in and play decent in place of floyd, the running situation not so much, allen is really important to this offense.

now instead of two super receivers, a super tight end, a super Qb, and a very good almost great RB.

we have one super receiver, a super tight end, a super Qb, a respectable second receiver and a very good to great rb.

not to mention a very good Oline.

offense will still score points.

Powlus broke his clavicle in practice the week before the '93 opener. He broke his humerous being sacked by a Midshipman.

JefMaj is right he was never the same receiver after the clavicle injury.

As I recall, his stats as a receiver were about the same before as after the injuries.

Passing was a different story.

My feeling then – and to this day – is that Lou's asinine "square peg in a round hole" scheme screwed Powlus royally by using a drop back passer as an option quarterback. He got the shit kicked out of him in an offense not suited for his skill set. Tony Rice fit the mold for the option game but Powlus did not and suffered mightily from Holtz' decisions.

I know I'm in the minority: I don't like Holtz, never have. Not since I became aware of when he was at Arkansas, anyway.

[I've donned full protective gear to fend off pitch forks and stocked up on fire extinguishers to deal with torches.]

I didn't get to watch the game, but what was the explanation on why this play didn't result in a TD?

Probably not the thread to put this in but I figured he got hurt on this play so why not?

Thanks

Thats a good question. I imagine that officially he was called OOBs.. But I guess in the BigEast you need more than 2 feet down and the ball controlled for it to be considered a TD.

I got to see this play in between games at the bar and I couldn't hear the TV. I think it was called a TD to begin with then they reviewed it and overturned it.

I can't for the life of me think of why they would have changed it.

Maybe they will say something about it on College Football Live today.

as i recall we were down at halftime, regained the lead, then trailed again. just to come back and take the lead in the second half. without Floyd, so they scored 17 points in the second half alone without floyd, and was faced with having to come from behind twice, and they still did it.

that was all done with a wrench thrown in the game plan(floyd's injury). so give them this week to get more receivers in the rotation with the first team, and getting better timing down. and i am sure everything will be just fine. maybe not as good as if he was in there, but good enough to still win the games that we should have

I don't remember anything specific about his stint at Arkansas, just that he bugged the hell out of me.

As to my defense against flaming pitchforks? Grab my asbestos lined armor and ...

No it was called an incompletion and held up in the booth. I belive Weis challenged the call. The reason given was that the ball camoe out when Floyd landed, something abount not having possesion all the way through. I fiigured taking two steps then going out of bounds is considered a touchdown but what do i know.

Yeah, I know that Floyd is the man but he ain't the team, we got a stable of great WR's that will now be given their chance to shine. Not only that, Shaq is supposed to have blazing speed and be a go threat as well.

I'd like to share your optimism, and I really hope one of the other guys steps up, but.....

We DON'T have a stable of great WRs. We have a stable of guys who were very highly recruited, but who have not seen hardly any action yet. I don't care how fast Shaq is. If he knew enough to get his head around, immediately after coming out of his break on the deep out, then we would likely be 3-0 right now. Right now, all any of those guys that might step in have, is potential. Performance wins games, potential doesn't. So let's all hope that one or more of them steps up and performs up to their potential. I really think that the guy who is going to step up is Kyle Rudolph. He may not be able to replace the big play threat that Floyd was, but I think he can matriculate the ball down the field well. And I'm ok with that, as long as we keep punching it in. Heck, it might even be preferable. The less time our defense is on the field, the better off we are.
