Stack the box? So what? Run it anyways and make them burn their time outs. If you are going to throw it anyway, throw it on 3rd down after you've made 2 running attempts.

It makes no sense what so ever.
you have a better chance throwing for a first down on 2nd down then on 3rd down. Its just the higher percentage play. You run on 3rd down.

I don't know, end of the day not running the ball is just baffling. The worst part is that we don't have much chance for redemption. The only game that could offset that loss is a win at USC....and even contemplating that is a joke. This should put things in perspective for us--I know it does for me--Ohio State has been owned, OWNED, in BCS games and games against Top 25 teams for the last four years. You know who their last BCS victory was over? That's right, us. They dominated us. That tells me a lot.

First of all its not at USC. Second of all USC looks awful tonight against OSU. They may lose 3 games this year.

I would think anyone with a modicum of football knowledge would kno that it is just stupid to run the ball into the line 3 times when the other team loads the box. How many teams have lost games by doing that? I would rather lose by at least TRYING to make a first down by playing to our STRENGTH.

Then maybe pick a couple of better passes? Seriously.

I would have loved to see the end around to Tate on second down. Keeps clock running and usually is either a gain of 2 or a big play

Or how about the Wr run better routes to get open. Im sure there was a check down wr that claussen didnt see or was covered. Or how about the ref's make that call on 2nd down.

Yea exactly....I don't think any of use are saying that you MUST keep the ball on the ground there at the end of the game. The problem I have is the deep fade which has proven to be a low percentage play. Yea when it hits its a great looking play with tons of excitement, but on 2nd and 10 with 2 minutes left in the game and having the lead is it the right play?? Not at all.

Actually some on here are advocating running it into a stacked defense 3 straight times.

So is that Weis fault or Claussen fault for not finding another wr? Also Michigan was stacking the box so the fly route on 2nd down is a MUCH higher percentage play in that situation then a normal 2nd down play.

The 2nd down play was clearly going to Tate the whole way...I don't think there was a check down reciever. Weis was trying to burn the Mich D with one play. And I don't think the deep fade has ever been considered a MUCH higher percentage play in regards to pass plays. Throw to Kamara on a slant...pick up 5,6 or even 10 yards....it puts you in a much better position to drain the clock and even pick up the first down to put the game away.

All I am saying is that the fade call was a horrible call. If Charlie is worried about too many in the box and doesn't want to throw it, he can pick plenty of short throws that can get the job done.

once again the x factor is if there was a check down reciever on that play.

STOP

Hey I agree that we could have made them use there timeouts. However, Our WR dropped the ball on that 3rd down. He should have gotten his head turned around quicker. That would have been floyd but he was out with an injury. I blame Our Special teams and Defense for this loss. Our kicker had a terrible Punt that put them in great field positons and Our defense kept blitzing and giving up the middle to tate all game long. The defense did not contain him all day. You score 34 points you should win. Point BlanK. Bryan Smith did alot of talking before the game and he didn't show up on defense at all. Mcneil was terrible at DB. Weis played to win and with all the penalties and bad call on that TD they called back on allen was just 2 much to overcome. THe Not SO SPECIAL TEAMS AND DEFENSE LET US DOWN 2DAY. THe Irish will bounce back next week. Let's dont get down on this team yet. THE OFFENSE IS UNSTOPPABLE IF THEY CUT DOWN ON THE PENALTIES. IRISH FOREVER BABY

What about the fact that Tate was tackled on the play before the ball got there by the Michigan DB?

Thats a moot point in my argument because I don't think the play should have ever been run. You talk about the missed pass interference assuming Tate would have caught the ball. What if he dropped it like he dropped the other balls today, what if Jimmy threw a pick, what if the ball sailed 20 yards over his head?? There are countless outcomes that could have stemmed from the play. I am saying that there were smarter plays to run there.

Dumb pass call, but everything else I agree with.

They loaded up the box and we had one on one on the outside. That pass has to be thrown. I think it was a good call by CW. He was going for the sure win. As we saw at the end obviously our d wasn't going to hold up if we went 3 and out by running into a 9 man box. They had time outs to stop the clock and would have had plenty of time to beat us like they did. D needs to do some major regrouping. shut outs dont just fall in your lap everyweek, you have to work your ass of for them.

Our D is soft, plain and simple. Especially our DEs and, dare I say, our linebackers. While everyone is high on B.Smith and Flemming, I think they are average. BSmith makes a big play every now and then, but he disappears for long stretches of virtually every game. Flemming hasn't had a day that has made me think he is anything special. TSmith may be playing better than any of our linebackers this year.

On DL, Kerry Neal hasn't made a play all year. I can't remember IWilliams name being called all year either. KLM hasn't done much either. I can't stress enough that our DBs make way too many tackles. They have to because our front 7 is just not effective at all.

fact is the team was unprepared to start the second half.
fact is they adjusted we did not
fact is why is JOHN RYAN ON THE FIELD!!!!!
fact is why does our best lineman get 2 or was it 3 holding calls?
fact is they were undisciplined.
fact is they talked too goddamn much.
fact is they lost 15 yards TWICE after touchdowns.
fact is this team is going NOWHERE fast.

i have been a weis fan since he was with the jets under parcells, i have followed him and liked him tremendously since the mid 90s but i have to call it like i see it. there is no way this program becomes elite under charlie weis.

Fact is our offense adjusted in the 4th quarter to put us in a position to win
Fact is John Ryan was on the field and he cracked the shit out of Forcier
Fact is our team shot themselves in the foot and should be playing like veterans
Fact is this team was not going to win a National Championship and everyone knew that our d line was a problem. We were not going to go undefeated and we are now 1-1. The question now is where will the team go. Will they man up and play the rest of the season or throw in the towel. Everyone here assumes that if Weis ran the ball we would have won. Weis called a great game and the team did not execuite.

Give Michigan some credit. Forcier made that TD on 4th and 3. Our defense was in perfect positrion and Forcier made that play. We made mistakes and they took advantage ofevery single one.

This is not Weis's fault. This is why coaches never last more thatn 10 yearsat ND, because apparently most of ourfans know more about the game. Its easy to say someone made a bad call after the fact. Had Jimmy completed either of those throws, the board would be praising Weis for finally having that killer instinct. If Weis ran it twice and lost the board would be saying Weis is too conservative and we will never win with a coach who thinks he can sit on a lead.

I also read that if Weis ran the ball that Michigan would have ran out of time but Michigan would have appraoched that final drive a completely different way if that were the case. Michigan won that game. Its time our team shows some maturity, mans up and takes it out on MSU

This is on the D

This is on the D

Screw blaming it on the offense/Weiss, they did their part. No team in football is going to score on every F'in possession. This is on Tenuta and the D. I think his blitz packages sucked. They were sending 6 or 7 in the 1st half and nobody was getting close. Then when they did get close Forc makes one little move and gets out of trouble, where the hell is everyone else?! There blitzing is sooooooo f'in slow, where the hell is the wham bam shit?

Charlie stays, Tenuta needs to do a better job coaching up this D. If you don't have the talent to get in and stuff em find something else to do....

I am so sick of all these threads calling for charlie's head. They put up 34 points on a team and could have easily put up more had there not been dropped balls, big plays called back because of penalties.

Yes some calls weren't great and I am sure you could say the same about Michigan play calling. At the end of the day the D should have stopped Michigan from reaching 38 points. Keep in mind we did have the lead with 20 seconds left. Harrison smith and Darrin Walls left the michigan player open, one of them should have been covering him.
