Mooney senior quarterback Dan McCarthy will miss Saturday’s Division IV regional final against Steubenville and is out for the season after sustaining a neck injury during last week's regional semifinal game.

McCarthy, a Notre Dame recruit who was named the district offensive player of the year earlier this week, was injured in the first half of last Saturday’s game against Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary. He was told by doctors on Monday he would need four to six months of recovery time.

For more details, read Thursday’s Vindicator or visit Vindy.com

From what I've heard it's a slipped disc that that he can fully recover from and he should be 100% in 6 months.

From what was said on Power Hour it sounded as if Dayne suffered a mild cuncussion in last week's game against Crespi. Dayne went out in the first series and was not allowed to return because of dizzyness and some memory loss. But apparently everything is fine and he is expected to be cleared to play this weekend.

For those that don't know E.Johnson is sitting out the rest of the year with a severe knee sprain.

No, that's helpful. I was just making sure it was him and the same injury I recalled hearing about before. I thought maybe i confused him with another recruit if his injury was recent.

No need to rush these guys into action. Most likely, McCarthy will be redshirted his freshman season. Neck injuries are nothing to mess with. Plus, we are really deep at DB with current roster and incoming freshmen. As for Crist, he will recover quickly and be ready to play at AA game. Finally, Ethan should take all winter to let that knee recover. I hope he does not go play in the AA game. For all these guys, they should be glad that when they commit to ND we stick by them healthy or not. This should be examples to recruits on how quickly football can end and the education of ND will pay huge dividends.

Why does there seem to be such bad luck with ND recruits getting injured year after year? Do other programs have this rate of injured kids coming in? I mean its obviously not the draft where we take people that are a gamble because they are injured.... just seems odd that the bug bites so much in our camp.

I guess it's not as bad because McCarthy will redshirt in one of the deepest positions we have on the team (Saftey for those that don't know.) Hell if they go out of there way to not playHarrison Smith because they want him to redshirt then I think McCarthy will as well.

What maniac told a 17 year old kid he can play football 1 week after suffering a "mild" concussion that includes memory loss?

You get one brain, and once you've done irreparable damage to it, thats it. I know it's not as extreme as Jesus or God, I don't remember, healing Jon Kitna at halftime (come on), but it's nothing to fool around with. I wish football would adopt more conservative guidelines that govern all when dealing with head injuries.

I don't know that it was a mild concussion for sure, but that's what it sounded like to me from what they were saying and given that he couldn't remember his defensive assignment that he studdied all week and he was reportedly dizzy after the hit. But then the next day he jumped out of bed at 7:45 and was upset that he overselpt because he was supposed to be at the school at 8:00 to watch film. He dad then stopped him and asked him if he could remeber the final score to the game, or remember anything else about last night. To which he said no.

I know when I had a mild consussion I felt extream dizzyness and I had to lay there for a second, then I felt fine for a while but later I started to feel extream nausesness and I got a headache that lasted for about 3 1/2 days plus my jaw hurt and felt stiff. No short term memory loss though.

Yikes. That doesn't sound so good. I hope he recovers alright.
