Best chance of being accepted as a transfer student at Notre Dame?

I love the University of Notre Dame and I wish I could go there after I graduate high school this year, but my grades aren't high enough to allow me a chance of being accepted. I was wondering what steps I should take in order to increase my chances of being able to successfully transfer to Notre Dame after one year of college elsewhere?

I would assume that they have counselers at Notre Dame who can help you with this. Maybe call their admissions office or e-mail them to get a hold of an advisor. Take alot of honers classes.

I'm not sure what you can do other than talking to counselors at ND. I think you have a good chance transferring from elsewhere after a year bc there may be more slots available as a sophomore than incoming freshman. Good luck I hope you get in.

Like anything else, the best bet is to go to a good college that you like, and work as hard as you can to get good grades. This way one of two positive things can happen:
1) You can still feel the same way about wanting to go to ND after a year, and hopefully your application will be good enough to get in. OR
2) You will find out that, while you still like ND, you feel really comfortable where you are and feel you can get a good education there. And you will have very good freshman year grades to rely on.

Good luck! I'm an admissions mistake (I somehow snuck in). So PM me if you need any other help

I actually got a transfer during my freshman year. He was a sophomore and grew up in the South Bend area, so he went to Holy Cross. But i know of kids that transfered in from a wide range of schools. I'd suggest calling the admissions office, they are more than willing to help.

Wherever you go, keep your GPA as high as possible and make sure the classes would transfer. Also, keep very active in community service. ND loves community involvement. I graduated from ND in 2008 and my brother just transferred in last year from Holy Cross. If you go the Holy Cross route, be very careful with the classes you take. They just became a four year school several years ago and are still losing a lot of kids to transfers. To combat this, they are having them take classes that won't transfer or fulfill requirements for transfer applications, so make sure you keep in contact with ND admissions counselors wherever you go. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask and good luck!

It's actually rather easy to transfer into Notre Dame if you pull the necessary grades in college. With that being said it is actually MUCH HARDER to get in from St. Mary's & Holy Cross than it is from most other institutions. Trust me on this... I just graduated two months ago and three of my very close friends were transfer students (if you want more of an explanation on why I can explain it in detail if you send me a private message).

Your best bet is to focus on getting the highest score possible on the SAT/ACT and then find a college where you think you can succeed. If you work your butt off and pull very good grades + have decent test scores you can get in. Your high school GPA won't improve much at this point and having good test scores can go a long way if you're not pulling straight As but still have a pretty solid college GPA. Regardless, if you're pulling a 4.0 at a school like Indiana, Wisconsin, any school with a recognizable name... you WILL get in as long as you stick at. It's all about determination.

One of my friends from high school couldn't get in to ND as a freshman. He went to Michigan State and pulled a 4.0 in his freshman year there. He then transferred into to ND. MSU is a good school, in particular its undergraduate program. Go to a school that has a good reputation for academics and then do well there.
