Aaron Corp and Matt Barkley are neck and neck in the USC quarterback competition. ESPN's Bruce Feldman says he wouldn't be surprised if Barkley started the season opener for the Trojans.
Prediction: If Barkley starts, Ohio State CRUSHES USC. I just think that starting a true freshman that is prone to INTs if someone gets in his face is a horrible idea. Combine that with losing four linebackers, their starting corners, and DT, the season may be poor.Anyway, I feel that USC this season is very overrated.
Ok, you still haven't addresed my points on their defense. How do they get better from losing all those players on defense? They have Mays then who for stars? Plus they play at The Shoe! And my entire point was that Barkely is just a kid, and one who throws INTs like he's Brett Favre! If he has a gunslinger mentality going into a game with tons of pressure on the QB, he will suck. If I were SC, I would want the guy with more experience, like Corp, or even Mustain (if he doesn't completely suck). Barkley will be playing tough games on the road (ND and OSU).
And don't give me that reload bullshit. You sound like one of these FSU and Miami fans down here. Where are they now? Not competing for national championships like before. The reload mentality ends for USC this season.
Methinks U$C will still win this year, but you are gonna see a lot more shootouts with U$C switching from an "air it out" o to a greater ball control mantra.
They do have a great RB core, but what if they get too predictable? What if they are down early and have to pass? OSU are not chumps, they recruit very well too. But talk is cheap, I'm just bored because of no football.
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Southern California quarterback Aaron Corp has a small crack in his bruised left knee and will be out about two weeks. An MRI taken Wednesday revealed the crack on the head of Corp's left fibula. The redshirt sophomore was rolled onto by a lineman during Monday's practice.
Doctors found Corp has no ligament damage and won't need surgery. Corp was chosen by Carroll as the Trojans' first-string quarterback coming out of spring practice. Freshman Matt Barkley will take all the first-team reps during Corp's absence. Veteran backup Mitch Mustain is also in the mix.

Oh, and tell me how USC will stop Pryor? They sure didn't stop Young (who is similar to Pryor IMO) in the national championship with the "greatest team of all-time".

Disagree Wabash. He's from my neck of the woods and he's a good kid, and very tough. I actually like him a lot, and he's getting a raw deal. He's dying to be out there, esp since everybody is in love with Matt Barkley, esp Poodle.
And Barkley has a tough go of it ths morning. Threw 3 INT's. I don't know how the afternoon went, but like I said, I hope he starts against us, cause he'll make some key mistakes. In the future though, he'll be lights out, which is reason number 2,639 why we must beat U$C this year!!!
Matt Barkley threw 18 picks his senior year of high school, which is extremely high for that level.
USC is going to lay the wood to Ohio State on September 12th. In addition to returning a solid stable of running backs and the dynamic receiving tandem of Damien Williams and Ronald Johnson, USC will field an excellent defense. Ohio State lost almost everything on both sides of the ball: Chris Wells, Brian Robiskie, James Laurinaitis, Marcus Freeman, Malcolm Jenkins, and recently, Tyler Moeller.
Terrelle Pryor? If he has to throw, Ohio State is done.
Check out this article on last Saturday's scrimmage from a U$C writer on scout, who always calls it like he sees it:
Scout.com: Oldtimer's Take: Scrimmage Edition
The offense looked BAD in the scrimmage, while the defense just tore it up. He's right, their secondary (with a 6th year senior) is L-O-A-D-E-D and experienced. Our wide-outs and TE and Jimmy vs their secondary is going to be an epic battle. And I don't want to hear from homers who say we'll kill them easily and they're overrated and blah blah blah. They're secondary is not overrated, Mays might literally kill someone this year, and their DB's can flat-out cover. However, our guys are just as good. EPIC battle yo!
Now, let it be known that this writer has a brain, and has said from the beginning that he didn't want Barkley starting, so he writes with a slant towards Corp that most USC fans don't get. But I swear, Barkley throws at least one pick every single time they scrimmage. And that's with splitting reps. He's going to lose them at least 2 games unless he learns just to throw the ball away, which he won't because he's a freshman...
