A few injuries have come from the Summer practices leading upto the Season.

Hafis Williams has been cleared to practice a little but not full speed just yet.

Jonas Gray hurt himself during a drill and no news has yet come out about the severity of it. Gray was helped off the field and spent time on the bike.

Darrin Walls has a tweaked hamstring wich will hopefully get cleared up soon but hamstring injuries can linger. Walls has been held out of practices while the media has been present.

Kamara had surgery which has been covered in his thread.

As long as these are too serious, I see this as a sign of good, hard practices. Practices where they "take 'em to the ground". I remember back in the summer of '07, there was a buzz about how there were NO injuries in preseason camp. We remember how that year turned out. If they are going hard and getting dinged up in the process, I think it is a good thing. Sorry for guys that get hurt, but it is part of the game.

All those injuries suck though. Hope its nothing too serious with any of them. GO IRISH is right though, hopefully it is a sign of them kicking each others ass in practices.

What happened to Hafis that he was injured? he is personally my pick to be the best d-lineman this season.... maybe i have just been out of the lue for too long.

Injuries are a part of the game but so far they're not from "take 'em to the ground" bone jarring blocks and tackles. They been going through the NCAA required acclimation period. First working out in shorts, then adding equipment and increasing intensity of drills in compliance with NCAA regulations.

The ankles, knees, and hamstrings so far were part of non-contact or limited contact drills.

Routine practice drill injuries. They hadn't gotten to ass kicking for those.

You haven't been out of the loop any more than the rest of us. Charlie keeps injuries/medical issues under close rein. Jason Sapp mentioned it yesterday in his Day 5 Practice report:

DT Hafis Williams wasn’t in pads and he was overheard saying “he’s not taking any chances with his heart.” The comment tied in with Charlie Weis’ noting yesterday that Williams was waiting on clearance for “internal stuff.” The severity of the issue is unknown, but Weis mentioned that Williams was meeting with the doctor earlier today at noon in an effort to gain full clearance. He still participated in the warm ups, so we’ll check back to see if we can get an update on his status.

Almost every year it seem you read about a college, high school, or younger athlete dying in or after practice from an undetected heart ailment. With more medical screening in high school and college I'd suspect it's less than used to happen. I recall 2 or 3 years ago there was a major league baseball player that died in his sleep from an undetected congential defect.

Hafis could have a partial blockage in an heart artery, an undersized artery, a leaky valve, arrhythmia, or several other conditions some more severe than others. Prudent for the medical staff to hold him out at this point. Keep in mind that comment about his heart allegedly came from him. It was printed as hearsay.

Well USC's Frankie Telfort was excused from the team because of a heart problem. Let's hope that Hafis does not have it that bad.

Sometimes, these "unspecified injuries" are listed only to keep a player's ability under wraps. Can we say... Belicheat?

Williams = knee
Te'o = thigh
Young = unspecified.

After the media left, the injured players came out and watched practice, Te'o with ice on his thigh. It's the first of 2 a-days and pads, and guys got banged up in the morning. They lagged bug time in the 2nd practice media session, and were ripped by several position coaches. Anybody who played football knows exactly how bad 2 a-days are, and the players were feeling it today. You hit a wall, and soon climb over it. The players will get there. Glad the coaches didn't let up though...

summer injuries

First off if any of the players ever read this my apologies, dont want to disrespect them in any way as they are busting their asses and we know it, but these are good signs of intense practices that must be done. Just keep your fingers crossed that it doesnt take too much of a toll. I am repeating myself but over the winter I said the way he is stockpiling players these practices should have a high price of admission, more like a game. Steel hardens steel baby and I for one cant wait to see what comes out of that tunnel on Sept 5. With all that said hats off to these guys for doing the 'grind' and hope none of them get too banged up.

Whoo where were we?

Jimmy Clausen had Flu like symptoms but only missed a day and is back

Armando Allen, Hughes, and Jonas Gray have all had injuries but all 3 appear to be at full speed again

Kamara is walking on his own and should be back this week.

Duncan has been held out of practice but should be ok for the season

Kyle Rudolph is back to 100% after having hamstring issues

KLM was not at practice the last 2 days for unspecified reasons

Te'o appears to be back on track

Walls is slowly returning to full speed

i think that is it.
