almost forgot:

i usually watch games by myself or only those i trust. hate it when people think ND games are friggin social and talky time.

5 minutes before kickoff and thereafter, don't talk to me, don't call me, don't walk in front of the tv, and don't touch the remote.

...

When we first got married Mrs BGIF wanted to watch the games with me as "quality time". She wasn't prepared for the intensity. We've been to several ND games together around the country but she doesn't watch them on TV with me anymore. We tailgate on the deck but when NBC starts the pregame show she goes to her mother's. When she returns after the game, if I'm replaying the game on the DVR, she knows it's not chitchat time. She knows by which room the dog is in how the game turned out. She'll bring in a fresh Guinness, quietly refill the chips bowl, then retire to another room.

Domestic tranquilty is a wonderful thing.

That's good stuff BGIF.

We are a lot like you guys. The new Mrs. and I get along great and we rarely argue. Half the time we watch the game w/ my buddies. But when we watch the game at home, just the 2 of us, and ND plays poorly, it usually ends up in a fight, and looking back it's pretty much always my fault LOL. I simply am a bad loser. She loves ND football and wants to watch the game with me, but I usually end up in a different room from her because I can't handle the hugs and the jokes. But when ND plays well I'm hugging and kissing her and doing all the boyfriend shit. I'm completely bipolar when watching ND football.

Thankfully she's gotten used to it, and by the end of last season we had our routine down. And good thing too, b/c in our new house we only have one big screen, and only one HD receiver. And no way in hell am I going to watch the game in our bedroom sans HDTV...

BGIF and NdinLA...thanks for the info. Like I said at 23 my responsibilities are breathing, school, and the gym.

A long time from now when I settle down with the future Mrs. Leppy, I'll consult you 2 on how to handle having a woman in the house during the season.

That's good stuff.

Watching at home: Depends. Alone? Total focus on technique. With family friends? Fun and allowed to scream at will. With mixed crowd? Fun, because you can attempt to ruin opposers' life for the rest of his her life.

Who are you kidding?!? When you watch the game alone, you usually fall asleep. Remember the Hawaii Bowl? Oh wait, I guess you don't...

Yes, I just went there!!!

You guys are too funny. I feel like I am looking into a mirror sometimes on this site. When my wife and first were together, she wasn't much of a sports fan. She endured a lot learning about my pregame rituals and all the things I do on game weekends - watch Rudy, blog for a few hours, watch highlight videos, shout "GO IRISH!" for no apparent reason, shake my fist at no one and yell "FUCK **insert opponent's name**!" in random intervals, eat, drink, pace nervously, go to bed watching Rudy, wake up to College Gameday, drink Guinness all day, shout at the TV, say "Fuck Haden and Hammond" at regular intervals, pace nervously, go in the other room to shout obsenities at passing cars, drink more Guinness, eat more food, run outside to yell "GO IRISH!" at the neighbors, drink more Guinness, scare the dogs because I yell "FUCK!" in great repitition, find no more Guinness so switch to Coors Light, throw things in frustration, sing Fight Song horribly off key every time the Irish score...and so on and so forth.

My wife is a saint!!! She sits there in her #10 jersey that says "Misstress Quinn" on the back and supports me and loves me no matter what.

I am a lucky man!!!

I lived with a guy and 2 girls last year, none were ND fans. these 3 thought it was OK to sit there during the games and talk about all the dumb shit we did the night before. NO. the irish are on. quiet. when things go well, i'll do the numa numa. when things go bad, i'll show it.

damn. life is tough.

WOW...I thought I was alone all these years, ROFL...

Living in SoCal, all my friends (at least the ones I would watch a game with) are mostly SC fans, defintely not any ND fans. So I have grown acustom to watching games by myself as well. Like NDOM, I have a saturday ritual too. Mine begins at 12:00am; its offically Notre Dame Saturday and I always notify everyone in the house at midnight that it is ND saturday. I always eat BBQ'd carne asada, and 6-7 tortillas(sometimes I will make salsa). I will time it perfectly so I can sit down and watch the kickoff with my BBQ'd carne asada and my 6-7 tortillas. I have been doing this for over 10 years(been watching ND since 1985)...it is to the point when I eat carne asada(even during the off season), I think of Notre Dame, hahaha.

My GF is usually is in the house, but not in the same room with me during the game. She follows the game to see how I am going to be; because she knows if ND loses I will be in a bad mood...a very bad mood. Exactly as GO IRISH!, I will also shout obsenities at everything under the sun that has anything to do with the game. I must admit, I missed the '06 Shark comeback TD vs. UCLA because I was so upset at the impending loss I walked out of the room. She was the one that came in and told me that they took the lead; walking back into the front room, I was so upset I didnt believe her till I saw the score. I was so upset at the state of the team, I was not even able to enjoy that win.

Anyone remember the New years bowl game versus Fla St during MArc Edwards senior year? Do you remember the drive with a few mins left, only to have Marc Edwards fumble the ball around the 50yard line? ...Well, I was watching game....hahah...with my girlfriend (at the time, this was a long time ago) It was new years, and she was cooking food, and baking pies, etc. During the game she kept talking to me about the pies she was cooking....When Marc Edwards fumbled the ball, I turned to her and said...."are those fucking pies done yet????" I said it in a very hostile tone too....I apologized later, but shit...ND cuts deep with me

I cant wait till the season starts....

You are not alone. I really have scared neighbors with my shouts.

My experience with the UCLA game was almost exactly like yours.

It was just she and I. She was glued to the TV. I was so disgusted that I walked away from the TV and actually started washing dishes and cleaning house while peaking at the TV. I was so upset at the impending loss I walked out of the room and actually crawled into bed (with the bedroom TV on).

During the comeback, she screamed louder than I ever could and slammed up the stairs of our little apartment in an "I told you so you friggen a-hole" manner. We both watched the finale in bed, then had angry sex.

Hahahaha these are great stories. I was just recently dating this girl for 8 months. real nice girl. nothing bad to say about her. we broke up about a month ago.

I'm not gonna say this was the sole reason, but it was def. gonna cause a problem. Her sister is getting married oct 24th at 3:00. cute. guess what else happens that day...nd vs bc. this poor broad thought i was gonna skip the game for the most important day of her sister's life who i didnt' like that much anyway.

the beginning of the end...

NDinLA hasn't a clue how to handle a wife, he's still got training wheels on. I've got lots of wife experience and I know, I know less now than NDinLA thinks he knows now.

We don't handle them. It's the other way around. They just let us think we do.

If you go back and read my post closely, Mrs BGIF isn't in the house during the season. She leaves when the PreGame Show comes on. Years ago she tried to make gamewatch quality time together. It took her less than half a season to realize it was laying ground work for divorce attorneys. She chose to vacate during gametime to save the marriage. Shrewd woman!

Why is neutered on the bottom?

Right, silly question.

Dammit. You notice everything.

OK. I can explain guys. So, Princess has this buck complex. Yeah, she's bigger than me. She wanted to be on top. She said "Let's see how you like it... Since I have this 52 inch whang ( hey, if ND can win 256 to 0, I can have a 52 inch pp), I had to curl it backwards. The pic does not tell the hole truth. It was a strange position, I'll admit, but he...ummm...she...ummm....what were we talking about? Hey! Look over there!

You are so messed up. :)

Watching the game on television has its advantages. Although experiencing a game live is a great experience, sometimes it is tough to see the field. Sometimes you miss seeing the ends of plays because you are blocked by others in the crowd (I missed the end of the flea-flicker bomb in the spring game).

Watching the game on TV gives you a view of the whole field, as well as a log of stats.

Nothing beats the excitment of being at the game....the buzz around the staduim...last year I almost ran over Digger on my bike

I made it to 6 different stadiums last year and going to try to make it to 8 this year.

Whats stadiums did you make it to?

I'm tryin to take a road trip to see ND play SC and then to see WV play Auburn.
