Meyer says he'll 'never' coach N.D.

Urban Meyer, who said in December that Notre Dame remained his "dream job," was emphatic on Saturday in saying that he "never" will coach the Fighting Irish.

Meyer was participating in a charity golf tournament when he asked the tournament host if he could make an announcement. He then said: "I'm not going to Notre Dame. Ever. I'm going to be the coach at Florida for a long time, as long as they want me," according to the Gainesville Sun.

Meyer then said to "print it."

I truly believe that Meyer is serious about never coaching at ND.... as long as the school demands that it's athletes be students first. I think that is why he seems to be happy at Florida. He has one mission, at Florida, in regards to recruiting: Go out and bring in the best talent you can. Not the best talent that can qualify for admission, or even the best talent that can handle the academic work. Just "the best talent", period. I also think he was serious about ND being his dream job. But what I don't think he said, or just wasn't printed, was "if I didn't have to worry about the academic standards." That doesn't make Meyer a bad guy, or mean that ND can't attract a great coach. It just means that Meyer is not right for the job. Or the job is not right for Meyer, depending on which of the fence you are on.
