This is my favorite story of the year so far. U of Texas football star Sergio Kindle got in some trouble last week. Check out this story:

Texas Longhorns linebacker Sergio Kindle ran his car into an Austin, Texas, apartment and left the scene of the accident last week, according to his attorney.

Kindle, a senior who was a first-team All-Big 12 pick last season, hit his head during the wreck and suffered a concussion when he ran off the street and into a West Campus residence early Wednesday morning, the Austin American-Statesman has reported.

"He knew he was hurt at the time and that he needed to go home and go to bed," Brian Roark, Kindle's lawyer, told the newspaper.

Roark said the incident occurred at 2:50 a.m. ET on Wednesday and that Kindle was probably text messaging before the accident, the American-Statesman reported.

According to witnesses, Kindle and several occupants got out of the car and pushed it out of the residence and down the road before abandoning it, police said.

Roark said Kindle contacted the apartment's management Thursday when he woke up, according to the report. Police said the accident was under investigation and no charges had been filed.

Kindle was suspended for the first three games of the 2007 season after a driving-while-intoxicated arrest. He recorded 10 sacks in 2008.

"Kindle made the football staff aware of what happened, and we're happy he's OK," said John Bianco, a UT football spokesman, according to the American-Statesman.

A statement from the apartment's management company estimated the damages to the exterior wall of the building at $8,700, the newspaper reported. And the wreck destroyed furniture, a computer, a desk and a cell phone in the apartment's bedroom, the resident said.

Ashley Zapata, 21, said she wasn't home at the time of the crash. According to a statement from the management company, Zapata and a roommate had been given new apartments.

Emily Dole, Zapata's roommate, told the newspaper she returned home from work to find everything "in pieces" in Zapata's bedroom.

"She would have been dead if she had been sitting at her desk," Dole said.

Hey, before you bang on the guy, I'll be the first to admit that when I run my car into an apt building and hurt my head, the first thing I do is go home and go to sleep.

Fortunately for him, he'll only be suspended for the first series of the first non BCS game they play, and then he'll be right back out there with the boys.

Oh, and you should see some of the comments from UT fans about the incident. They're saying that he followed everything by the book, bc he contacted the owners of the apt, case closed, next. Classic! I mean, there's no way he might have been at wee-bit tipsy, considering it was 2:30 in the morning and he CRASHED INTO AN APARTMENT BUILDING! Hey TX fans, he didn't run into a cat running into the street, or even a parked car. IT WAS AN APT BUILDING!!! LOL...

My favorite is that he and his friends realized they needed to push the car, abandon it, and THEN go home and take a nap. He was definitely under the influence, no doubt about it.

Yes, it happens. But it's a good thing there was not anyone standing near the apartment building. I have no compassion for drunk drivers.

At least he notified the apartments. I wonder what Fauria thinks reading this story?

"Woah... I wonder if it was a good car... better than my shitty Geo Metro. Next he's gonna end up with a kilo of coke and a dead hooker with $50.00s down her throat and end up with a two game suspension... Fuck. My. Life."

"This guy didn't do anything either. They didn't take him away in handcuffs. He didn't hurt anybody. It was a prank. Everyone that knows him knows that he's a really good person. He's a goofy, fun-loving guy, fun to be around. It's not like he's a predator."

Attorney: Texas LB crashed car while texting - FOX Sports on MSN

Texas linebacker Sergio Kindle was treated for a concussion after crashing his car into an Austin apartment building last week while he was either sending or receiving a text message, his attorney said Monday. Kindle's attorney, Brian Roark, said Kindle lost control of the car on June 24 while looking at the message. "It was probably something he should not have been doing," Roark said.
