Stanford picked up a commitment from quarterback Dallas Lloyd (Pleasant Grove, Utah) over the weekend. Lloyd had narrowed his choices to the Cardinal, Utah and BYU and committed after taking an unofficial visit to Palo Alto this past weekend.

Lloyd had visited Stanford previously for the Cardinal Junior Day and said the school just had too many pluses to pass up.

"I always said academics were the most important thing to me and you can't beat Stanford in that department," Lloyd said. "I like the football program as well and feel they're going in the right direction. Coach Harbaugh is doing a great job there and I felt a connection with the coaching staff as well as the other players on the team."

As a junior, Lloyd completed 93 of 169 attempts (55-percent) for 1,689 yards, 15 touchdowns and four interceptions. Schools like Miami, Nebraska, Syracuse and Wyoming had also offered him.

How many QB's is Stanford after? Do you think this helps us on the Montana front?

I wouldn't think much of it. Even if Montana went there he wouldn't really have to compete with him in my opinion. But I am also not a recruiting expert. The numbers just dont seem that great for him either.

Don't know how many their after. He's the second QB to commit there. SU has made 15 QB offers. They have 2 verbals and 5 have committed elsewhere. So they still have 8 offers outstanding with Montana being the highest rated.

Does this help ND in my opinion, no.

If he was afraid of competition he wouldn't be considering ND (Crist), Bama (Sims), or UGA (Murray) and Pryor at OSU has only burned 1 year of eligibility. He could still chose any of them.

OSU recently offered Hendrix was that a sign of OSU moving on or at least saying we're not waiting, make up your mind. SU might be doing the same or may have decided to move on.

Scout ranks Lloyd about 5 slots (and a Star) lower than Montana. Rivals has Lloyd as the #15 Dual QB (4.65 40). ESPN hasn't evaluated him yet. He does have offers from MIA, NU, BYU, UUT among others, if he stayed in play he probably would have picked up more.

I don't really feel like Stanford is a real threat to us with Montana, Ohio State and Georgia scare me frankly.

I don't think Stanford will be taking anymore QB commits this class, mostly because other prospects will look elsewhere now and because it is very rare to have 3 QBs in one recruiting class. Keep in mind that Stanford still has Tavita Pritchard(how he has kept his job for so long baffles me), Andrew Luck (a redshirt Fr who was an incredibly heralded recruit), and Josh Nunes ( an incoming freshman who was highly recruited as well).

I am really confident with him now. To say the competition thing for us isnt a factor isnt plausible IMO because we didnt take one last year, and most likely we are going for 1 this year. Montana will have atleast 2 years to start at ND.

Since the 08 class , stanford has taken 5 QB's. We have taken 1.

Montana really likes what Stanford has to offer. I would be more surprised to see him at Georgia and Ohio St. than at Stanford.

Your double negative (in bold) has me confused. It doesn't seem to agree with the rest of you post.

I read it as, "competition as a concern is plausible". However the rest of your statement, (paraphrased) No QB taken last year and most likely 1 this year seems to underscore that HE would have little or no competition while at ND, just Crist.

I agree with the latter part of your statement and considering his current weight unless he bulks up like Martin and Wood which I don't think is a good idea for a QB with his frame, he's going to need a least his freshman year to develop his body under Mendoza. As a soph he should get meaningful backup minutes to take over as Crist moves on. That would be a smooth transition (provided Crist stays healthy).

If his heart is set on 4 yrs as a starter UW is probably his best choice to see the field early. But then he could look forward to seeing the turf face down as often as Clausen did as a freshman in a rebuilding program.

I don't see UGA as a likely prospect either - Murray.

OSU is open after Pryor but he's only burned 1 season. Does Joe see OSU's offense and Tressel as a development vehicle for the NFL?

I thought Stanford was ND's real competition. IF he wanted to play somewhere other than Dad's school (which I doubt - no inside info - I just doubt it) Stanford gives him a similar quality of education while keeping him closer to mom (read that so mom can make his games easier). The weather's better, women, no ethanol smell - just empty seats in the stadium from fans who don't give a damn, and earthquakes but he's a California kid.
