In and Out....by a mile.

The night before ND lost 10-0 to USC, Joey Getherall's dad and I brought bags of In and Out burgers to the ND hotel. The players had already eaten but they wolfed down the burgers Joey had been raving about. Tony Driver needled Givens as David chomped down on his second burger, "A few more of those and Mattison's gone have you at LB like he wants!"

Most people thought ND was listless the next night against the Trojans without Jarious at QB. I always wondered if it was all that grease ...

...Did you know Joey Getherall? My sisterknew his parents and i got to meet him when i was little. Still one of my favorite players i ever saw.

I was a house guest of the Getherall's for that USC game. His dad and I swap emails several times a week. At the communion breakfast the next day, I was sitting with the Getherall family when a ND fan walked up and said, "I asked to sit at your table but was told there was already a fan assigned there. By the way do you know some guy called BGIF. He claims he knows you people. The entire family laughed and pointed at me, "Ask him", they replied.

Joey was supposed to play in the upcoming Japan Bowl but an injury (torn labrum, IRC) sustained on the job (he's an L.A. cop) prevented him from doing so. He's quite disappointed as his mom is Japanese. His dad met her when he was in the Marines stationed on Okinawa. The Japanese relatives followed Joey exploits at ND, watched tapes of games, and were looking forward to seeing him play live. A family reunion was in the works.

As for Jarious, he was teary eyed after the USC loss in '98. Many fans blamed Davie for Jarious injury in the endzone the week before "running out the clock". Jarious did not suit up for the USC game due to the injuries and neither Eric Chappell nor Arnez Battle were up to the task at QB. Jarious was apologizing to every within earshot as the players were getting on the bus postgame. As he past me he apologized again. I asked, "how can it be your fault you're injured". "I wouldn't be if I had done what I was supposed to," he replied. Fans roasted Davie for having Jackson run around the endzone at getting injured when tackled instead of just stepping out the back of the endzone for a safety. As I understood Jarious comment, he ad libbed trying to take more time off the clock and got hurt in the process. Classy kid.

I haven't posted one in years. It was Clausen2Kamara's fault for bringing up In and Outs. I haven't had one of their burgers in more than 10 years. They were tasty.

We have a chain down here in south Florida called Juicy Lucy's that is amazing.
Its just a drive thru, no dining room. I wish we had In and Out burgers down here, from everyones response they definately sound like the best by far.

jason,

FYI.

I went back and looked at an email from Joey's dad from about 3 weeks ago. Joey has to have surgery for a torn rotator cuff and labrum injury sustained in an altercation with a gangbanger.

Growing up i remember most In N Outs were just drive thrue, but the newer ones they have built are sit down.

@ BGIF
Hope Getharall is healing up ok. Wish some of our players had the heart of Jackson and Joey but their still young.

I used to work just down the street from the original Pinks (the one on the corner of Melrose and LaBrea) and I would drive by it on my way home every day. If the line was ever less than 50 people, I would stop and pick up a dog or two. The problem is that the line was RARELY under 50 people long.

And regarding Tito's Taco's, I just went there for the first time in my life a few weeks ago. Tacos were inexpensive and awesome!!!! I can't believe I've never eaten there before. I guess it's because every time I was in the area, I'd go to Johhny's Pastrami next door for the best pastrami sandwiches on the planet.

I love, love, LOVE Johnny's. After hockey games, that is the only place I go. However, what about Phillippe's in downtown LA? A little double dipped french dip. Awesome!

I would say IN N OUT but plenty of you Cali natives already have, which by the way I feel bad for anyone who has not tasted the deliciousness that is the double-double. I instead will go with another Socal staple of fast food, The Hat!!! By fat the best pastrami I have ever had in my life

Yo, Whut up, let me holla atcha for a bit. So I am eating some whataburger right now, (great drunk food BTW). Even though I'm drunk, I still think this is my 2nd favorite burger (Culvers is my #1). But the shakes kick ass. May be ties for 1st with Culvers custard shakes.

Which goes better with a hangover, Culvers or whataburger?

I defer to your experience.

Well, I'm glad you mention this, as now I do have a hangover (albeit, not a horrible one). I would prefer Whataburger, because they have a better breakfast lineup.

On a similar note, I thought that I should mention my "cure" for a hangover. 5 Hour Energy is the shit. If you ever get incredibly tired, don't get a Red Bull or some other energy drink, get 5 Hour Energy.

Never tried an energy drink. Keeping things down was my major challenge. For some reason a jar of apricots and apple (Gerber) used to do the trick. It eliminated the odor of death. Got rid of the box of cotton that was lined my mouth. And most importantly - stayed in my stomach. Probably made a drastic improvement in pH. Usually within a half hour or so I could eat regular food and not see it again in chunks 5 minutes later.
