USC named Aaron Corp the starting QB, as many of us here in SoCal predicted. Phenom Matt Barkley is the #2, while Mitch Mustain is #3.

Aaron Corp will start at QB for USC in spring game - Los Angeles Times

The competition will rage on, but no spring QB under Pete Carroll has lost his starting job by the fall. Nice career for Mustain huh?

BTW, I wrote this earlier, and I still believe it. The future, and the present, I believe, is Matt Barkley. The kid is lights out, unfortunately for us. I think they're going to throw Aaron Corp to the wolves vs. OSU at OSU, and by the time USC plays ND (or shortky thereafter), Barkley will be starting for U$C. Regardless, we need to have a raucous crowd for that game, to get their inexperienced QB, whoever that is, as rattled as possible...

Mustain shoulda stayed in Arkansas. This makes me glad we did not get him.

If Petey can't make him a good QB, then he would not have been good at ND either.

Mustain made the worst decision of his life going to USC. If he was smart, he would transfer to a FCS school.

Mustain looks like a clown now. I would rather be 3rd strink at USC than anything in the state of Arkansas. So I cannot say he made a bad decision.

I don't know if he can/will transfer again, but anyone think he will try to go to Auburn to be with his old coach, Gus Malzahn?

He's the next Matt Cassell

7th round draft pick who had to back up Sanchez and Corp before he finally got his shot

I'm half kidding here

You're right. At least when he is riding the pine, the girls at SC are much better looking than in Arkansas. Also the third string QB at USC probably hits a lot more tail than the average SC student. Free education, great weather, and an endless stream of hot sorority girls? Yeah, I guess he's doin' okay.

You know i love ya man but I have to disagree, vehemently (yet respectfully :) ). I think Barkley is gonna be a stud. I saw him live twice, and the kid has an absolute cannon, and great poise. He was the POY in the nation as a jr, then had a rough start to his senior year, so some soured on him. The last half of the year he was lights out. By the time i saw him, he was his old self throwing BB's all over the field, on a line and on the money.

In fact, the only other h.s. QB I saw live (as an adult) that I thought was better was our very own Jimmy Clausen (and yes, I have a serious bromance going on with Jimmeh). Guys, Clausen, as a h.s. QB, was un-fricking-real. But the difference is that Clausen was playing flag football (or passing league for those who've played that), while Barkley was playing against some of the toughest competition in SoCal and the state. Clausen never got touched, playing behind an unreal O-Line and against weak comp.

Now, I hope I'm wrong, and I hope he does play against us as a freshman. The blitzes will confuse the crap out of him, and he'll throw his share of picks fo' sho'. But think about this: He already beat out the former h.s. player of the year who is going into his 4th year of college (and 3rd year in this offense) in Mitch BUSTain (I just made that up, I swear!!! or at least I've never heard that before). Barkley's been with the offense for a only couple of months. And if not for him not being comfortable with the offense yet, he'd beat out Corp already IMO. He just threw too many INT's this spring (good for us next year).

I hate to back up a USC player, but I'm just being real. And by all accounts he's really good kid. My niece goes (well, went) to Mater Dei with him, and while she doesn't know him personally (she's only a soph) she says he's a down-to-earth kid, really nice to everybody. She knows his younger sister, and she says that his sis is really nice too. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to take a shower and wash the USC filth from my body (and my mind!!!)...

Pete only wanted him so Oregon didnt get him. Pete the Cheat did that kid wrong. As long as you win, right???

Did you read my whole post? Probably not b/c I'm too damn long-winded, LOL (on wednesday nights the lady tutors, meaning I have too much time on my hands for ND football). But I did say he struggled the first half of his sr. year (really struggled, threw 11 INT's in his 1st 4 games). Their league is loaded, and they put up 42, 42, 57, 35, and 21 (in a loss) in their 5 league games. Barkley lit it up. But you're right, they weren't in the title hunt last year, a rarity for MD. Their defense just wasn't very good at all...

being that you know much more about the subject then myself, I'm happy you corrected me and gave your reasons for why. BUT throwing 20 ints or whatever he ended up with on any level is embarrassing. But again maybe I'm too biased and my hated for u$c doesn't allow me to make rational thoughts about any thing condom related.

Cannot argue with that at all. And to your point, he threw 4 INT's in a playoff loss, his last h.s. game. We shall see, but I hope you're right...

I don't know about Arkansas but if he transfers to Bama or Auburn those girls take the Pepsi Challenge over SC song girls any day of the week... and I would venture a guess they aren't the typical stuck up type that goes to SC

I agree with the song girls comparison. The song girls at SC are not very good. However, the girls in general population, per capita, are some of the best around. NDinL.A. can back me up on this - take a walk around the SC campus on a warm day and the talent level is beyond compare. I don't think the hottest girls at SC even go out for the cheerleaders. "I love the Southern girls with the way they talk, they knock me out when I'm down there." But I do wish they all could be California girls.

I grew up just outside LA as well... and live less than an hour out now, never have been to bama though and the crowd shots and the cheerleaders there are on another level... at least during game time

but I agree... I love going to Newport/Hunington and just taking in the eye candy, don't go to SC's campus much anymore though... closest I have been in the natural history museum about six months back... I wore all my ND stuff... it was lovely

Yup. Yup. Yup.

I wrote about this last year. I took my class on a field trip to the science museum, and we walked through USC on the way back. It was 80 degrees, and the tail that I got to witness was unreal. I'm trying to pretend to keep an eye on my students (they're really calm, no worries), but all I'm really trying to do is not get caught staring at the talent. Good Lord these SC girls are hot. I see them riding their beach bikes around campus in shorts and a halter top, and you can't help but oogle. And some of them volunteer at my school (I have 2 very good-looking ones this trimester), and it's just unbelievable.

Now, to acamp's point, I always said that I'd love to marry a southern belle. Thos brunettes are not even funny, plus they treat their men right. Alas, i was lucky enough to find a South Bend girl, a girl w/ values that are a true rarity out here. She's easy on the eyes as well, but offers so much more than many (not all) of the air-headed blondes at USC. I'll take her any day over them...

I agree, at the risk of sounding like a sovinist (or honest depending on your opinon of PC in this country lol) I married a Irish/Mexican/Filipino. A very easy on the eys combo that is very sexy... but even those girls that are just super model quality wouldn't match up all things considered... most so cal hotties have a serious "thing" going on that is not at all attractive beyond the word hello... I think it's my girls military roots to be honest, extremely humble and family oriented... very "southern Bellish" if you will ... I'll take that over a nice figure any day, I just got lucky that she has that too

Apparently the defense looked great and the offense looked bad in their spring game yesterday. In 110 plays, the offense turned the ball over 4 times (2 INTs from Barkley, one from Mustain plus a fumble on a botched hand-off). Barkley had the best stats for the QB's, but of course he threw 2 INTs. Like I said, I think the kid will be a huge stud when he figures things out, just like any young talented QB, and I hope he starts against us in Oct. Recruits Sean Parker and Nick Montana were impressed with him. Their D-Line is going to be NASTY, and their LB's are super fast (but very young).

Looks like Corp will definitely be the starter vs. Ohio St and if he doesn't screw things up, he'll remain the starter. Unlike the other QB's, he doesn't turn the ball over, and he can really run. However, will he be able to move the ball?

I still like our chances this year even more than I did in '05; however, talk to me again after the Nevada game and it could be a whole 'nother story. Until we dominate Nevada, put me in the camp of 'cautiously optimistic' (but I digress...).
