i think Cierre Wood will be our KO and punt returner this year...he's just too good to keep off the field.

I hope it will be Huuuughes, hes the best one imo.

I also like the little through the legs thing he does with the ball after a carry. Looks kinda cool.

what about jonas. hes 230. and young. dying for playin time. and hes got skill.

just a possibility.

i love jonas, wish he would have scored that touchdown when he had a chance last year instead of fumbling the football...

Yeah, I thought of him as a possible FB as well, especially this upcoming year w/ Hughes, Allen, Aldridge and Wood in the backfield. Good opportunity for PT and I think w/ his size, speed, and hands he could excel in that position. His blocking skills would need to improve somewhat. Plus, w/ his talent, surely he would get some touches.

Aldridge looks more and more like he's going to be the fullback. He says he's embrasing the move, and that the coaches have his best interest at heart, and if it helps the team he's down for it. He's actually excited about the possible move, esp because he'll get on the field more. Also likes the opportunity to create mismatches on the field. Great attitude, great young man...

from the practice clips I saw, the coaches are high on Hafis Willaims, and Harrison Smith right now. And from the RB videos I saw, Jonas Gray(25) was killing it.

Jonas did look great, but we all know #5 will be shouldering the load. That is Charlies love child and he will be there to the bitter end. Two seasons in a row we have had two guys that are more equipped for this level and yet Allen gets the lions share. Live with it and hope he A)I as good as Charlie believes him to be, or B)God forgive me gets hurt and misses substantial time. No matter how bad he is Charlie is going to give his little ass the rock.........

As always Aldridge has been a stand up guy since day 1. I always thought he was the best just didn't get in a groove. I'm sad this will be it for him, but looking forward to one last go around.

I think the bottom line reading all this is.....

We finally have some depth and competition at spots, something ND has been lacking for awhile.

It's tough to succeed when your only reps are on third-and-short with a horrible line.

At 6'0", and barely 190, I think Wood will probably not see the field very often, this coming year. I'm sure Charlie is going to tell him to spend the year studying the playbook, practicing hard, and hitting the weight room.

I could see where you're coming from, and by no means am I a recruiting guru, so who knows? Like the other poster, I also think he's good enough, explosive enough, to see the field by the middle of the year, but at his weight you could absolutely be right.

But here's why i think he'll play if he's good enough: CW does not like to 'redshirt' freshmen. You won't see him stash away guys that are possibly good enough to play some, like he did w/ Walker and Goodman. If a RB is good enough, they'll play special teams. If they're really good, they'll play at their position. I know RB is a position of depth, but I do think he'll see special teams IMHO...

Does anyone know who #57 is? In one of the practice videos, he did a terrible job on one of the blocking drills and Verducci ripped him a new one.

Everybody who is talking up Gray and think he should start...wow. Gray's only carries were against 2nd string guys and his only oppurtunity to score he fumbled. I love the kids potential and think he could be a good one. I hear the depth chart is clear at RB...AA is number 1. Like it or not. He gives us the most complete and explosive back we have. His line the last few years did him little favors. 2. Hughes has earned it. He is starting to use his strength a bit more with Alford's coaching. 3. Jonas Gray. Def has a lot of ability but the coaches hate his inconsistancy and fumblistis....He will become a more complete back in time. With Cierre and Theo arriving, they could put Gray even more down the depth chart in my opinion and even challenge for PT.

Its seems like there is 2 groups divided among the irish faithful.....

One group thinks Jonas is the future, 2nd group thinks Cierre is the future, I think a lot of us, because of the inconsistency is ready for anyone but the 3headed monster of the last 2 years, when in reality we have no one to blame but the OLine....I dunno, just saying.

Jonas can be a stud, as can Cierre. It's just easy to think of the new guy as the savior when the other guys struggle. Sugarcoat it how you want, we have a backfield of studs, who ALL have been handicapped by the pathetic OL play. If we can't learn to block, and Weis can't figure out what a run game is, Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith, and Jim Brown would be mediocre in this offense.

Cierre Wood is overrated, in my opinion. I'd redshirt him.

The line sucks. Period. A rhino couldn't get any yardage in our offense. No one is going to look good at all until they show up and prove they can block.

Every running back has his flaws. Allen can't break tackles, Hughes is slow, Aldridge and Jonas are inconsistent. The fact our line sucks intensifies these flaws a thousandfold.

Where did the Jonas fumbilitis thing come from? Just because he fumbled once in the Navy game? Or does it happen often in practice?

I will bet you my car, my house, and my xbox that a rhino, if given a carry, could gain yardage even behind an offensive line of albino midget babies.

The question is: Could he gain yardage if the defense were rhinos, as well?

Now you are totally reshaping your question to make it sound as if your original statement wasn't crazy. You first stated that a rhino, behind an oline of humans playing humans would not be able to gain yardage. Now if the rhino is playing with a human oline against an entrie team of rhinos, that is a different story. So, which is it?

Er...

A poor man with little money is walking down the road. He has only a couple of dollars and is considering stopping by a fast food joint to satisfy his hunger. While he is doing this, the money is stolen. Angry, the man files a police report. Nothing comes of it.

Months later, the poor man has a little more money. He is watching a football press conference: Rey Maualuga is talking about his career. "Oh, by the way, I stole money from a poor man a couple of months ago." The poor man goes to the police station, but he is turned away. "It could be any poor guy," the captain told him on the way out. The poor man, flustered, returned to the bar.

Pete Carroll was having a press conference. "So, Rey Maualuga told us that he stole from a poor man?" Carroll looked shocked, "That never happened."

The poor man asked the bartender to change the channel. On ESPNEWS, the bottom line read, "Rey Maualuga never stole from a poor man." The poor man cried for a long time...The End.

Moral of that story: USC players are thugs and would willingly eat kittens for money.

To answer your question...Rhinos is a new slang word for people.
