I read in the Cleveland Plain Dealer that the Buckeyes are going after Montana's son to come play for the Buckeyes. Why wouldn't the Irish be interested in him?

Who would you rather have: Heaps or Montana? Heaps is considered to be an ABSOLUTE stud by numerous draft sites already.

He's a nice kid, but I guess the better question is: "Why WOULD the Irish be interested in him?"

We are looking for an elite QB.

Also, given Weis' record with alums kids', I have no doubt that he has a defacto offer on the table...

hes tiny. and there are better out there.
Heaps is that big either and while there are some better than him there aren't that many. He's going to be a 4 star recruit and from some that I've talked on the west coast think he's no worse than 5th best in California and that atleast the one's I've talked to think he's the #2 QB in California and the 3rd best on the west coast.

He's the real deal and I don't get the hating on him just because some of you think he's a product of hype because of who his Dad is and that's just not the case. IMO he will get the next QB offer and also let's not forget that ND is short on scholarship QB's. Only 2 on the roster this season so there is no doubt that ND needs 2 in this class.

He will probably come in as a preferred walk-on, much like his brother if we get him. Im sure his Joe can pay for the education, but if he wants to go to OSU, it isnt going to hurt. It all just depends on what he wants to do, if he wants to play.

I live out here where Nick plays, and the jury's still out on him. There's some things you have to remember:

1) Ohio St. offering a QB means crap to me. They are the kings of the "don't do anything to hurt us" QB's. They want game managers, not pro-style QB's. Just go look at their list of QB's since their coach took over. They run the ball, have safe passing plays, and they let their defense do their thing. Pryor is the first difference-maker as a QB that I've seen at OSU.

2) You have to remember where Montana plays QB. Oaks Christian is an athletic powerhouse who plays against teams that can't sniff their jock straps. Jimmy played there, and HE GOT SACKED 4 FRIGGIN TIMES IN 4 YEARS!!! I'm a huge fan of JC's, but we all saw what a difference playing against an actual pass rush is than playing passing league, which is basically what Nick is doing at Oaks. And Nick barely ever even plays in the 2nd halves of games, much less the 4th quarter.

What I'm saying is, the jury is still out on Nick. I'm not saying he's not good. He's only been a starting QB for one year, as he transferred in from a powerhouse up north, and he had to win the job. And when you haven't played that many against top competition, people are going to want to see more of you. I think the buzz will get out after the camps and the passing leagues, where people will have more of a chance to see him.

3) Speaking of passing league, I was talking to a coach last night, and his team played JC in a passing league a few years ago, and he said he never saw anything like it. He made every single throw. He hit his WR's on curls, outs, deep-outs, etc. They took away his wide receivers, and he threw deep middle to the tight-end. He said it was unreal. He saw Nick play also, and he didn't get the same 'wow' feeling at all. But again, he only saw him in limited action.

Nick may very well be a stud, but I don't blame ND for not offering him yet. His measurables don't jump out at you, and he doesn't have a huge overall body of work to judge him. If he's good enough, we'll offer him...

I think Nick is better than his bro and will get a scholly to an above average football team. I think he goes his own way...ie not ND...If I were him I'd be insulted if ND didn't offer me when other BCS schools are....Anyways, I like Heaps a lot. I guess I'm with the minority. Does this kid have prototypical NFL size? No. I think he can make all of the throws and create more time for himself. He has great escapability from what I've seen. Plus from seeing the preformance of OL, we need someone like that...I like Gardner too for sure... But there is a reason he is CW's #1 target.

You can be insulted all you want, but if the choice is him or a better QB out there, guess who I would give the welcome mat to? This is business, not personal.

but c'mon phork it is personal, it's not a business.....it's an investment for us, but it's all about being a part of the notre dame family. with that being said, i agree with nd in la, his body of work isn't out there yet. how knows what will happen during his senior season, i think he will develop.

i personally watched nick play and i thought every pass was precise. obviously his 2 tackles, juniors last year, are 6'2 and 275lb beasts, and thats not a joke guys, they manhandled the team they were playing, but i felt his passing was amazing.

oh, and joe was wearing an nd coat and taping the game from the press box. i digress.

i think nick will get an offer from us, but even if he is offered preferred walk-on status(i doubt), i think he will end up at notre dame.

Just for the record, we will NOT be getting Heaps or Montana...look elsewhere for a QB

Montana is good, but just like NDINLA, I have seen him play and he is not bad. I wouldn't call him elite though in any regards. He played against absolutely 0 comeptition on a team full of studs. They have a rb, two OTs, and a lb who all are going to be getting schollies to major schools this year. Oaks Christian is an extremely expensive private school that sprung to high school football stardom because they recruited kids to come play at their school. The school has been open around 10 years or so (maybe less) and has already won 3 state championships. I mean there is reason to wonder why Montana would leave a national powerhouse like Concord de La Salle to come in at Oaks Christian. Not saying anything bad about Montana, but I have concerns with the school he attends.

That being said, I think there are better qb's to offer (perhaps even other than Heaps and Gardiner). Connor Wood out of Texas looks pretty impressive and there are actually two in Cali that I think are better than Montana. Bryan Bennett has a cannon and all the tangibles ( he attends Crespi which is where Joseph Fauria went) and Ryan Kasdorf absolutely is a beast with impeccable accuracy ( he attends Sherman Oaks Notre Dame - who did of course produce Dayne Crist). I actually hope Weis offers one of these guys.

I echo the same sentiment that has been said previously - isnt there better QB's out there? I know the story around the name, but is montana good enough to produce on the field? I always thought of Montana was a 3rd stringer, that being said I never hear much about his play, just about who his daddy is.

I would say we have a better shot at Montana and Heaps than my boy LMI seems to think... I say we get one of the two

id say if a qb wanted to go to nd it would be the class of '11 because u would think jimmy would stay all 4, then crist, then the young gun would come in. this is all just an assumption. not sayin jake heap couldnt possibly sign and come in and start over crist
