That would be tremendous if that is true. Grunhard was a beast and Young was a terror on the other side. This will be a great benefit if it is true.

The same rumor is being circulated by some that are in the know. It sounds as if this could be the real deal.

I mentioned this on another thread: USC did this with Ken Norton Jr. and it's worked out incredibly well for them. And there are other examples of this I'm sure around the country. These 2 were studs and I'm sure they have plenty to bring to the table...

I love this if it is indeed true. This will silence the critics who say that Charlie doesn't care about the former players and alumni. I agree that this is huge for recruiting. Both of these former domers are well respected because of their success, not only at ND, but in the NFL too. Now let's go hire Ricky Watters, Tim Brown and Joe Montana!

How much are Grad assistants actually involved in recruiting?? Just curious. Not trying to be negative.

It is posted over on Rivals.com that the two will be Grad Assistants. So it sounds a little more legit.

I'm slightly confused.... usually grad assistants are newly graduated players who work for zero money to get a start in the coaching profession.... both of these ex players are retired NFL pros pushing forty years old... I guess the bottom line is that we need all the help we can get... maybe these ex players just miss being around football.

Usually. But it's worked out well for USC and Ken Norton Jr. Not saying it'll necessarily happen here, but it's been done successfully in other cases.

I love these hires!! I agree with the above posts of how vital this could be to the recruiting front. These guys are exactly what ND represents. Great men and great athletes. I really believe they can not only help us on the recruiting front but also give our OL and DL some pointers because of all of their playing experience. Kids are going to want to be coached and recruited by some of the greats at their respective positions. Young and Grunhard knows what it takes. This is huge in more ways than one.

He did, but UCLA didn't offer him a position, so he went over to USC and started at the bottom. They regret it big time...

this is really a Big Deal, both of these studs will push the players and sooo good for recruiting, take my hat off to Charlie on this one and see if they can help put a charge in the lineman

I don't see Grunny leaving KC. He is well respected in KC, owns a few restaurants, likes to drink and drive....oops(jk, had to get that in though), has 4 kids going to school in the area. I wish he would leave but I doubt it. Plus, isn't our O-line recruiting been pretty good. We definitely need Bryant Young more than we need Grunhard. I was thinking it would be sweet if Aaron Taylor wanted to come as well.
