Interesting...It looks like he has enough experience...Hopefully he can turn our offensive line play around..I hope he's a good recruiter too..

From the BGI article: "According to his biographical information on the Cleveland Browns’ website, "Verducci brings 28 years of coaching experience to the Browns including seven years in the NFL with Cleveland, Buffalo, Dallas and Cincinnati and 19 additional years at the collegiate level. Five of his current and former players were named to the 2008 Pro Bowl (Braylon Edwards and Joshua Cribbs—Cleveland, Jason Peters—Buffalo, Andre Gurode and Flozell Adams—Dallas)....
"Prior to coaching in the NFL, Verducci spent 19 years coaching at the collegiate level. Most notable was a ten-year stint as offensive line coach at Iowa (1989-98). Verducci has coached in ten bowl games (two Rose Bowls, two Holiday Bowls, two Sun Bowls, two Alamo Bowls, Citrus Bowl and Aloha Bowl). Twelve of Verducci’s offensive linemen at Iowa went on to make NFL rosters."

Sounds like a good hire. Next, DL coach.

'Bout time. If the line play still sucks, I expect CW to give up his "scheme" or take a hike.

Verducci is well schooled in the art of the screen play

ow boy screens are gonna be our main offense, we are a mere year away from our linemen not even lining up in front of the qb anymore, they are just standing somewhere else for the screen already.

The best thing the Browns had going for them the last 2 years was the offensive line. I think this has the potential to work out well for the Irish

I'll be in South Bend during the coaching clinic, I'll get to see what he does with our OL during spring practices. Can't wait to see.

I like his attitude and commitment.
"Notre Dame is the one college job I pursued and is the only school I considered leaving the NFL for...
I'm looking forward to this return to college football and developing the talent we have here... I can't wait to get started."

Too bad he wasn't coaching the o-line the last two years.

I'm not excited at all about this hire yet. I will have to see some on the field improvement before I can get happy about this one. This seems to be another one of those "hell lets try this guy" deals.

Or maybe Charlie just hired him becuase he's from N.J???

Judging by the Iowa boards we are screwed.

I read some bad info on him also on the Iowa boards, but it is known that he is a great recruiter, and Iowa was a long time ago. Alot of things change, I hope that he comes in and makes an immediate impact on these kids and is successful. I am even more concerned with the OC hire to be honest with you, because my 11 year old son could do a better job coaching the ND O-Line then Latina could. This is a definate upgrade.

Go Irish!

coach johnson i still remember your posts about latina last year. i absolutely look forward to what you have to say about spring practices this year!

definitely alot of good and bad on the iowa boards, that is typical though! so i am not too concerned. i do like the fact that he can be tough when his guys arent doing well. we need some of that!

i also have to think that the fact he spent so much time in college is a good thing. it may help charlie to get a better grip on a college kids mind! and need for motivation. i also think that the fact he has spent a number of years in the pro level. that may also help charlie and will definitely help with the pro style offense charlie wants to run. as much as i HATE zone blocking i think its here to stay and i think this guy has more experience with it than latina did. he may also get a little more respect from charlie when he thinks they need to move away from the zone blocking all the time to some other plans.

can i get a trap please?

creating angles is such a huge part of blocking in college, it makes things SO much easier for the oline. and allows a smaller weaker oline to play against big time defenses. with the zone blocking schemes typically if they are more talented on defense than your oline you are going to have problems all day, or all 2 years :)

i think that there may have been some problems with latina coaching the schemes, not sure of his background as far as blocking schemes was concerned but i know he has been a well respected OL coach for a number of years. however our line just looked lost like they were trying to find someone to hit ALOT last year.

maybe, just maybe this guy will be able to teach the skills for this blocking scheme a little better.
