Age is a big deal. There is a big difference between 21 years old and 19 years old, same goes for 19 years old and 17 years old. A 19 year old should play pretty well in high school over a 17 year old. The argument that JC is "young" and a true sophomore isn't that great of one because he's 21, not 20 like every other true freshman. On top of this, I bet you anything Evan Sharpley would be playing just as well as Jimmy Clausen right now. What does this say about "the kid with the golden arm"?
Marc Tyler isn't starting running back for USC as a sophomore is he? He's 4th or 5th string. Sean Wiser is alright, but let's not confuse Stanford with ND. ND gets a much, much better recruiting class every year.
I keep hearing all this talent Jimmy Clausen has. Honestly open your eyes. He is overrated. I've seen the ND games this year, and Clausen's ability to consistently turn over the ball has really not helped ND win very many games this year at all. I get it, he's a true sophomore, a 21 year old true sophomore. Don't forget though he has been called the "once in a decade" QB. Crist should get a chance next spring to start, I doubt it happens though. All hell would break loose. Jimmy is the man after all...
As for the cockiness, it goes a bit beyond that. He went to the level of arrogant douche bag and you know it. What kind of senior in high school comes to his new college in a stretch limo with a fur coat and proclaims his goal to win 4 national championships in college football? Just because of shit like this I'm glad Jimmy Clausen is failing to be honest. One of my friends friend goes to ND also, she has a class with JC and what she says about him doesn't really make me change my mind.
The fact is Crist is a better athlete, has more talent and should get a shot to start next year. It would be better for ND football. Oh and in JC's final state game without Marc Tyler in high school, he played like dog shit.
Dude, you make these wild statements like they are indeed fact, set in stone. How do you know that Sharpley would be doing better? "You'll bet me anything?" Tell me, how do you know? Sharpley sucked last year behind that awful O-LINE, just like JC did. Hey guess what genius: YOU NEED AN O-LINE THAT'S AT LEAST HALFWAY DECENT TO SUCCEED! I really wish you knew the game so we could have a decent discussion.
About Tyler, first off, he's not a soph, he's a redshirt freshman. He was injured all last year. Second of all, he's that deep on the depth chart because he chose the wrong school to go to. Did you see what he did to our first string defense? That kid is a straight up stud. He was all ND until mommy stepped in. Look it up.
Another set in stone statement of yours: rist is more talented. How do you know? Because he did well in high school? So did Mitch Mustain. So did a ton of other kids. Are you at practice or something? JC might turn out to be a bust, but he was labeled that good for a reason. He's got talent. He's got a fantastic arm. And he was busting teams up for 250+ a pop until teams adjusted to our pathetic play-calling. ND (including JC) hasn't adjusted back.
You can ignore the Quinn parallels all you want. You ignore what Colt McCoy did as a sophomore as well (look it up), and you can even ignore what Carson Palmer (you know, first overall draft pick) did his first 3 years in college until Norm Chow showed up, but you just sound ignorant when you do. The QB position is the toughest on the football field to learn. It takes
experience, not just age. After next year, if JC still struggles, then I will wave the white flag. But I've seen too many QB's blossom their jr and sr years to be that shortsighted as to write him off and say some untested freshman is better. Sorry. JC showed me during that 4 game stretch that he can be damn good (on the flip, he can also be damn bad; that's why I'm saying wait and see).
As for your freind that has a class with him, what is this, high school? You remember how h.s. is. Some people hate you and have this one perception of you because they see one side of you, and others love you. I guarantee you that you had people that disliked you for no apparent reason, and people that liked you. I'll go by what JC's teammates think and say about him over your friend; that's what matters in football.
BTW, I agree with your name, screw Stanford football. But they have a HELL of a football coach. He gets his guys to do what I WISH our guys would do: pancake block pancake block pancake block. You know they're going to run and they still shove it down your throats. I don't care what people think about him as a guy, the man can coach (and recruit)...
