Well, over at Gator Envy, they have a post where someone claims a "reliable source" has said the ND has already offered Meyer the job.

LMI means not lowering the requirements further, not hiring a-holes like Meyer, supporting all that's ND, etc...
I think he means don't hire a 'win at all costs' type of coach.

Hopefully, LMI...I got it right for you. LOL

Im all for getting smart kids on the football teams, i really am, but i believe Notre Dame, as well as other colleges should not just look at test scores. The ACT and SAT are great for students who are reasonably smart and who are good test takers, especially speed tests. I truly think that they do not measure the abilities of the students work ethic, or even their true abilities as a student. Yes there should be academic standards, but we should not decline great kids who have a track record of being great students as well. I scored higher on the ACT than many of my classmates, but some of them i will openly admit, are naturally smarter than I am. But they are not good at taking timed tests. Just figured i would drop my two cents on that issue.

ND allows in 65% of eligible High School grads for recruiting purposes. Stanford allows in 15%. The LOWEST ALLOWABLE SAT score to get onto Stanford's football team is above our team's average.

We have standards, but we are not crazy. But we still have standards.

We can win with dignity...we don't need Urban, Stoops, whoever the coach of the week is. We need someone who can give this program a psyche purge. Players and coaches alike are "Soft"...losing may not be "ok"...but I'd argue nobody is acting like it hurts bad enough to change it..heads gotta role.

We don't need a football god...we honestly don't need a top 5 recruiting class every year...we need someone the players will sell out to...and who can evaluate and develop all the young "works in progress"

At this point, I'll take a DIV III guy who has overachieved, or someone from the Big East...same thing.

Urban wont leave Florida.ND might have a shot at Spurrier or Les Miles. The choices were slim when ND fired Willingham and the only thing that has improved are the recruits/players.ND is a pressure cooker for a coach with the fans second guessing everything that is done. The only coach that will come here is one who has worn out his welcome or a guy with no head coaching experience.

I want Bud Foster. And, I want him to bring in the HC from App State as his offensive coordinator.

I don't disagree with that, except I think you have to add to the list, "Guy with huge ego".

I don't mean that necessarily in a bad way. To come into a job as high profile and pressure packed as ND's head coach, you gotta have that confidence and cockiness that you CAN - and will - get things done! That attitude trumps all the concerns about how you will be critiqued.

CW has the attitude. Unfortunately, it seems he doesn't have the skills to back it up.

CW is going nowhere! This is a VERY young team and he has not had a chance to clean house yet. If he fires a few assistant he will get another year! Look for a quick decision by ND on this matter..mid week announcement that CW will be the head coach at least through the 2009 season. Brian Kelly has beat no one and had one good year...did we not go down this road before?? TW? Urban is NOT coming here...Flordia is his home for a long time!

I agree that ND is a pressure cooker. But other schools are pressure cookers too. You want to live up to Bear Bryant? You don't think the seat gets hot at other schools if their teams played like ND has at times? I agree it's a unique situation at ND, but there is pressure everywhere. Go to a U. Penn basketball game if you don't believe it.

Have you watched the team recently? Lifeless, confused, overmatched. Weis has shown that he is clueless. The sooner he is gone, the better.

I agree 100%. Im sick of the excuses that this team is very talented but young. Look at Florida they are very talented and young. But they are playing for the SEC championship and likely going to win the NC. So whats the difference between ND and Florida?

Hmmmmmm...let me think...OH I KNOW!!!!

Its coaching! Urban Meyer makes Weis look like a pal-football team coach at the best. Meyer gets it and knows how to get players fired up and ready to kick some ass on saturdays.

WAKE UP!!! Urban did not come too his "dream job" the last go around! Why would he come here from Flordia? Davie, Tyrone, and Weis....these are the type of guys that want to be part of the unrealistic fan base that is Notre Dame!

I keep hearing people say its not a possible scenario, why would Urban want to come here, and its never going to happen. Just figured i would repost some links people have posted about why it is a legitimate scenario. I will tell you i have seen two newspapers, one flordia, one indiana, and also heard that NFL network thinks it is very possible. Plus, it is now different than 2004, when the head coach was stepping into a bad situation down the road with willinghams recruiting classes. Charlie has brought in great talent and its easily seen he has done just that. His kids are mostly moved away, and will soon be only one at home. Seems like this might be our first offer if charlie is fired, i just hope they look into very closely to see who we could get.

Meyer Quote- "Notre Dame is my dream job"

South Bend Tribune: Time to turn the page at ND?

Urban Meyer is the next Notre Dame head coach : Fanblogs College Football Blog

Plus other smoke all over the internet and evidently television. Only really going to find out when monday comes around.

The hubris of ND fans is amazing. Urban told ND no once before. Lets see...please explain why he would leave a program like Florida to go to ND, who he told NO before! Get real....

Wide AWAKE! Yes maybe we do have a horrible fan base because we EXPECT to win. God who would want to coach under the pressure of winning football games....hmmmm could it be every college football coach out there. People always expect wins, that isnt the reason Meyer didnt come. He went to Flordia because of his family, idk how many times i have to repeat that. And yes he turned them into an amazing school in a very short time, winning a national championship in his 2nd season......how long are we willing to wait for any coach to win a BCS game, 10 years? Get Meyer or we arent going to be the same ND that we ever were before. He gets the best HS athletes, he wins the big games, and he cares about how the program is looked at.

Its amazing how the pressure goes away with winning. No one asked Charlie to win a NC this year. The fact that we were expecting a blow out at the end of the year USC game, and it didn't mean anything is one thing. The terrible losses to Syracuse and others is the other thing.

With all the talk of coaches and academics, I ask this: Tony Rice, Chris Zorich, and more than a few others, who academically wouldn't make it today, turned out to outstanding young men, why can't we take players who, while aren't perfect in the classroom, and make men out of them and not just on the football field?

I'm sick of restrictions, or academics as otherwise noted. The hypocricy of it all makes me LMFAO. We want NC's, and we're certainly quick to yank HC's who don't provide us with them, but when asked to put the best talent on the field, we're still handcuffed.

That's not to say that Latina has done nothing in his 4 years here with the OL, nor has Mendoza proven that our players are stonger nor quicker than other teams.

Like Phork said, "Just join the Ivy League".

In reality, that's what the administration wants anyway.

I agree...we have the bullets we just need the gunsliger.

There are many coaches from lower tier schools who have exceeded expectations on a regular basis...that is how ND traditionally gets it's best coaches.

Why go with lower tier schools when we can go to a guy who is proven at coaching when the attendance at the stadium is over 15,000..... Urban is a proven recruiter, proven winner, proven BIG TIME coach. Why does everyone hate the guy? Because he knows what it takes to get the best players to have the best team?

I don't understand all of the Urban Meyer to ND talk. He turned us doen four years ago. Why would he leave a program that is contending for National Championships every year for ND? I don't know how anyone could get "bored" winning all the time.

Because he does not believe in ND values. It's that simple. It's from his own mouth.

Why compromise yourself when you can get a winner somewhere else.

Let me ask you this: Which ND coach came from a big time program before he came to ND?

I got an idea. Just have a press conference. Tell the whole country that the next ND coach will get a 3 year 14 million dollar deal. Experience very very necessary. Past championships required. No title in three years you're fired.
