Something is wrong with him...he's better than that, but has some HUGE mental block.

blowing the leads we have had this year I would say the ENTIRE TEAM has a pretty big mental block...

I thought I posted this already but it didnt take. SO here goes again. I did not get to watch the whole game. I saw some dropped balls that were very catchable. At the same time I saw a bunch of WTF balls thrown. I dont know. I just dont know.

He didn't play great today but he certainly wasn't the reason we lost. 2 TD tosses, a TD called off by a bad call, and a dropped TD. Threw a good ball that gave us a chance to win it with a field goal. His play of late hasn't been great, but why not post this after Navy or BC when he actually played pretty bad?

At times he makes a grat throw...other times he looks clueless... I just hope that they don't just annoint him the starter next year.

Jimmy is regressing. Has trouble scanning the whole field. Locks onto receivers. When he checks down, it's to the running back for a screen.
Regardless who is coach, he'll start next year. But if he keeps going backward, he gives Crist an opening. Not this year, of course, but perhaps next.

Are you addressing me? If so, I saw other areas of concern besides the qb play in the other two games (this one too). The good ball that Tate caught was a decent throw but it was pretty much up for grabs. Tate has figured out how to be a receiver and DB at the same time. He either catches it or has to bat it down. I think I said, "I saw several balls that should have been caught and several WTF throws". That was after saying, I did not get to watch the whole game. So if I am in error, my apologies. My main concern, like many others in here is lack of finish, heart, fire, intinsity, will, whatever you want to call it. I just dont understand how someone that plays for the Irish cant get fired up by that alone. I am old fashioned that way, I guess. I go way back with the Irish, further than several of you. I can recall some really bad play and some really bad teams. It has been a long, down-time with a couple of bright years lately. I still bleed Blue and Gold. I am in shock right now.

Yeah, he locks on like a laser.

One of the most disappointing things to the season is the lack of progression at the QB position. I thought he turned the corner after the Purdue & Stanford games but it's been a downhill ride ever since

Just bought a house (fixer-upper) and was working on it all day. Only got to hear the game on the radio. According to Criqui he has a tremendous game. He sang his praises throughout the game. What the hell did I miss? Was Criqui that off? Was he drunk?

I was hoping that JC had a good game. I'm shocked to read this. His numbers looked good. Midwestdork looks forward to JC having a bad game; he gets off on it. Might as well be Mark May talking, 'cause his bias is so evident it's embarrassing that he even calls himself a fellow Domer. But there are others here who are saying that he played poorly, so that is more viable.

Listening to the game, I felt that JC was turning the corner and getting his mojo back. 2 TD's, no picks today, ZERO (and I mean ZERO) running game, only a soph and yet you still bag on him midwestdork? Yuo're starting to sound like a stalker. CW should be getting your ire, as should the offensive line and many others. JC, at least listening to the game, should be far lower on your list. But stalkers are called stalkers for a reason.

But the fact that others said he didn't play well is yet another cause for concern in one of my lowest days as a ND fan. This one hurts...

116 of his 291 came when Syracuse was in prevent. 76 yards to end the half and 40 on the last drive.

The reality is that he didn't play poorly and he didn't play well. He just played. Golden Tate summed it up in a post game interview I watched on WNDU when he said that he didn't feel any emotion on the sideline. Didn't feel emotion from anyone all day. They came and they played and that's it. It's pretty interesting that a team coming off a 3-9 season would believe that any victory is preordained but it sounds like that's what happened.

Pretty shitty. I don't recall feeling this down on the team at any point last year. It sucks.

it honestly looks like he is hurt or something. Either his ankle is still messed up or something else. i am leaning towards the ankle b/c it appears his mobility is at an all time worst right now.

Yeah, he locks on like a laser.

I haven't seen a QB follow his number one WR like JC. If he doesn't fix this he will be out next year and Crist will be in. In additon his inability to make plays with his feet (like Quinn did) makes it easier on the defense. I will say it would be nice if he had a running game to help him out.

Against some pretty bad teams. Not like he was playing in the SEC.

Jimmy's last game: 2 TD's, O picks.

You want to be a (midwest)dork and spit numbers, I can do the same. Anybody can manipulate stats in the way you want. Why not just say you hate the kid and get it over with? You're like Mark May with this kid. Doesn't matter what he does, you'll hate him. When he was putting up those 300 yard games, you hated him (but you were awfully quiet), and when he was throwing picks in the subsequent games, you hated him. And now that he has a pretty good game, you still hate him. Even though he throws for about 250 yards a game despite 2 games in monsoons with ZERO RUNNING GAME, you still hate him. You're boring and predictable dude.

Bottom line, and most important stat: the team is 6-5. Jimmy is not to fault for that. There's plenty of blame to go around. He's nowhere near the top of our problems right now. Get over it...

I think Clausen is a good QB. Look, if not for that holding call on the Rudolph catch, he brings us back with less than a minute. (I know, if not for this if not for that.) I'm only using that play as an example of a good play in crunch time. He does have a problem locking on to a receiver. He did that on the endzone throw that was blocked by the diving defender. However, what we saw midseason was not some fluke. He's good. There is something going on mentally with this squad, in my opinion. This is why I have questions about the coaching. A 19 or 20 year old kid with full class load needs help getting over some hurdles and learning the position. When he was confident he was grooving. Now he's less confident. A bunch of INT's and some losses will do that. I still have confidence in the players.

It's way too difficult to ajudicate upon Jimmy Clausen at this point. There are too many mitigating factors to call him a failure:

1. ND has no running game. Teams have routinely been dropping eight men into coverage . I don't know too many quarterbacks who could find an open receiver under that circumstance.

2. Amazingly, the nO-line has given up sacks when the other team only rushes three players and I know at least one of them, against Pitt, was not a coverage sack. Pathetic.

3. He's been the victim of some dropped balls and incorrect route running by his receivers.

4. He has been given some really bad play calls to deal with. How can a general lead his men into a battle when the map handed to him depicts a forest in a different country?

There are also some pretty damning facts about him as well:
1. He has thrown some balls that looked like they were intended for the defensive backs who ultimately caught them.

2. He is locking onto receivers like a starving pitbull locks onto a t-bone steak.

3. See number 3 from the former list and consider the opposite scenario--which has happened a few times this years as well. GT and MF made some incredible catches this season.

4. He's only a sophomore but he has about 18 starts under his belt. That's more than some Heisman Tropy winning qb's had in their respective college careers.

There are more arguments to be made on both sides. I tried to include the most relevant points from the conflicting points of view--which was easy for me because I view JC with a great degree of ambivalence--in order to show solid rationale from both camps. The final conclusion is that there is no conclusion just yet. JC and CW are in the same boat: four games into the 2009 campaign and we'll know the truth about both of them.

jc is only sophomore, give him a break. you've got to take the bad with the good in a kid that's only 19 or 20.

he's a kid. once he gets even more confidence (not that he's lacking any), i think he'll only go up from there.

in order to grow, he's got to stumble a bit to learn. i think he's doing just that. it takes time.

we have to be patient.
