One question for all of you who are all over Meyer's jock-strap...

How did Florida do in Recruiting in 2004 and 2005?

Per Rivals: Florida was #7 in the country in 2004 and #15 in 2005.
We were #32 in 2004 and #40 in 2005.

I am not saying Weis is better or worse but Meyer had 4 top 15 classes to work with his first year. Weis only had 2 top 15 classes followed by the 2 worst recruiting performces in ND history.

Weis is great coach in my opinion and would rather have him take us back to the top. I believe!!!!!

I certainly would like to have him but not at the expense of getting troubled players. I am not saying that would happen. I believe he could coach this team at or near the top right now. He just has that imagination offensively. He is a real arrogant dude though and can get pretty nasty from what I hear. But, nasty is something I think we lack right now.

I am not saying dirty, but nasty we need.

Urban has recruited quite a few few troubled/shady kids at UF. Do you guys want him to recruit the same guys here? If he doesn't, whose to say he would succeed here. If Weis doesn't succeed, I'd prefer to look elsewhere.

I think you mean following the two worst. I believe Weis can take us there too. Meyer has a great offensive mind though. I think it is him? Anyway, maybe we can get Charlie Strong back and he can teach us the system.

By the way I am not sniffing his jock strap. I am sure I would feel like I had a hangover and an unknown fat chick in my bed, not long after we hired him.

I have heard many stories that I did not like about Meyer, even before he snubbed us, and lots more after.

Sell out

Sell out

I like CW and defend his honor to my fellow CFB fans every week but we need a big and dominating year in 09, Good recruiting class, more new faces stepping up and since we have a weaker than normal schedule dominate our opponents and show the ability to finish strong.

Not that we have a chance to get these guys but I would take any of them. I think ND would help bring them some character:

Pete Carroll
Urban Meyer
Paul Johnson
Mike Leach

Their teams are highly motivated and that is key to ND success since every week our opponents have no problem getting up for ND and national TV.

Sorry if this offends some of you but I want to win especially against Mich St, USC and BC at almost any cost.

No winning never ever offends me, i would take most of these coaches any day too IF charlie doesnt produce BCS next year. But i do think there is some clause in the Notre Dame football program about not hiring anyone from the University of Sucking Cock, so that does rule out the poodle.

Okay i had to post this after i seen it and it made me laugh. I know i talked urban up and still do think hes an amazingly smart coach, but yeah maybe he does recruit some shady players....they were suspended in his behalf. Link below self explanatory.

Tebow's backup charged with felony burglary - College football- nbcsports.msnbc.com

Maybe two young men made mistakes (maybe one much more than the other), but not quite worth badmouthing an entire organization - even if it is a Florida school.

Sorry about my post earlier. Also sorry about yesterdays too. Sorry about any future posts. I am serious, sorry Neut . Sorry I ran out of brewskis too.

I know kids make mistakes. If they show a record of it though then they are problems. Florida is a good school. The team is good. I really dont care for the coach for many reasons. I respect Florida but I dont really like them.

You bring one of the many points why Urban Meyer will not leave the gators. he has the ability to recruited any player regardless of grades or off the field actions. We at ND hola our players, coaches to a higher standard which has shown, especially in the speed areas,
Where since the 1995 team, it seems as if we are always one step behind, though the DB's are getting much better.
Another reason Urban won't come, is because he has more that one thing to accomplish to have a great season. He can win the SEC, but loose the BCS. At Notre dame, it is playing for the national title or failure.
You may think I am a cynicist, But playing for Notre Dame from 1995-98, we worked every day for that national title, which has avoided us for 20 years. I played when Coach Meyer was a wide receiver coach, he was young, energetic, and constantly got yelled at by Coach Holtz. You coud see he had the ambition of his players that every day they would improve. Also why leave Florida, they have won the BCS title and the SEC title in 3 years. He is also a very close friend of gators bball coach Billy Donavan.
Charlie Weis is under contract until 2014-15. They AD will give him time to get his own players in the system. Also keep in mind, since 1996-2008, our average record is 7-4 with 0 Bowl wins since 1993. There has been a decline in the program. It is hard when the coach keeps bringing in new coaches, with new styles, new favorites. It is much easier for a defense to install a new system, than the offense. I also thing my old QB Ron P. is doing a great job with all the QB's. It seems sometimes Clausen tries to hard and make a great play to get the septics off his back

First of all.....ITS NOT GONNA HAPPEN! Secondly if he did come here and he started competing for National Championships right away and wins 10-11 games per year.....Would you still hate Urban Meyer? I personally dont have any problem with the guy. He's a proven winner and a good coach. Look at Florida now!

Yah he won with the Zookers players. He is a heck of a coach he sure is. Quite egomaniac and quite an ass if you ask me. I would turn away if ND hired him.

yes Urban used Zooks players, but he is such a great coach, who knows how to best use the talent he was given. he didn't say we are going to run my spread offense, regardless of talent. Being a former player, and a dolphin fan, the great Don Shula made a hall of fame career by taking his talent and findinng the best way to win with his players. Thats why he is the best coach ever. Rich Rodregues better take notes.

we all forget one key aspect of this... even IF ND would hire him after what he did... (and that's a big if IMO)

Urban Meyer would first have to actually want to job, and in all honesty I'd have to question the mans sanity if he left Florida for South Bend considering the current states of both

drop the money at the door step, tell him we are interested, tell him he can recruit whoever but has to keep them in line. keep charlie for recruiting purposes, with less pay. just IMO

Get him and give him a 15 year contract. If Kevin White were still here he'd be fired for extending CW's contract.

There is no way Weis stays on as a recruiter after being fired as the head coach. I wouldn't. I don't know who would. ND is in between a serious rock and hard place on this one. Weis is not getting it done, but the best thing may still be to let him roll for a few more years and see if he figures it out. Unless there is some diamond in the rough coaching out there, I don't know who ND gets to make it better and get off the coaching carousel for good.

Just tell him we arent firing him, we are demoting him. i know its wishful thinking, maybe we could have him coach the QB position or something. just dont have him call the plays and dont have him hire the rest of the staff. All nearly impossible i know, but i think it would make sense. He said he is staying here till he dies or they fire him....so demoting him is a possibility according to his statement, technically he isnt really getting fired.

I am not making excuses for CW. But, the staff actually has a decent pedigree. Thats what baffles me about the performance. One poster (a student) commented on CW's demeaner during a pep rally. (negatively) It could be as simple as that. No fire, or sense of urgency. Something is missing in the attitude and I dont know what to do about it. I guess either you can motivate or you cant.

I wouldn't worry about the recruiting if CW gets the ax. ND would take an initial hit for sure but if the right coach is brought in then the recruits will come. Keeping CW doesn't help because he can't win with all these blue-chippers anyway

Personally I feel only a few groups of people should agree to hire or fire a coach.
1. The President, board of directors, and the ad.
2. Discussion with the team, ending with a majority vote to only fire a coach or hire one on staff.

If somehow we do manage to get Meyer to come to ND, do you think he adjusts his option offense around Clausen, or do you think Clausen transfers and Meyer gets left scrambling for a dual-threat quarterback during the recruiting period...
I personally like the first option much better.

you are delusional. great coaches don't lose to 2-8 syracuse. period. Weis does not have a fucking clue how to coach in college.

they don't really run the "option" at Florida. They run the spread. It is not really even a "spread option" like they run at West Virginia. Having said that, i would liken Clausen to Chris Leak at Florida, who Meyer used (along with Tebow) to win a national championship. His offense does not require a running quarterback, but the quarterback definitely has to be extremely mobile. I believe Dayne Christ fits this description. Faster and more elusive than Brady Quinn was.

Good point mooney. urban hasnt just taken his offense and tried to force it upon any college he goes to(aka RichRod syndrome). he is a very very smart coach who sets up a system based on the players he has, and i have said it for along time i really think that in the end Crist will be a much better QB than Jimmy. that being said, until i hear something legitamite about Urban really being interested in coming to South Bend for next year, we dont have much option but to keep charle at least one more year and see where that takes us. No BCS bowl win next year, no more Weis as the head coach.
