I really like to see Coach Weis getting back into the football pipelines in some states that we haven't been big in for some time. Coach Holtz used to be big in California, but that stopped. Nice to see it blossoming here in Cali once again.

Mike Farrell of Rivals.com had this to say about Evans:
It's not often USC loses a committed player, but that could be the case with Inglewood (Calif.) High wide receiver Shaquelle Evans. While Evans never publicly committed to the Trojans, sources say he committed to Pete Carroll following USC's victory over Ohio State. But after an official visit to Notre Dame the weekend of Sept. 26, Evans now has become a strong lean to the Irish. USC, Colorado and Michigan remain in the mix, but Notre Dame will be tough to beat.

Sounds good to me.

Take the "right nows" out of his response, and its perfect!!! It will be hard to overcome his visit. He should just commit now!

I'm still cautiously optimistic. The thing that concerns me is - why is Shaq telling everyone that will listen that ND is his leader - yet he hasn't given us a solid commit. What's the wait? It's been two weeks. It appears that he could simply continue to want to draw attention to himself.

Maybe he has already...What do you know that we don't?

Hmmm...

Let's let this thing play out before you yank out the "draw attention to himself" card....M-kay?

there are some less than honest recruiters out there, and benn got wrapped up in zook's snake oil salesman pitch. i don't think we'll be facing anything like that with shaq this year.

keep in mind that benn pulled out of his supposed soft commit from ND and has been all about the illini since. this could be the same thing situation, but in our favor this time.

Soft verbal or silent verbal? I don't care. Until those faxes come across on signing day, I don't get my hopes up anymore. Anything can happen with 18 year olds and the things involved at some schools with recruiting. Hunter, Benn, and that kid from Ventura a few years back that ended up choosing FSU over ND at the 11th hour. Plus many more, I am sure. Last year's class was the only one I felt really good about because of the reports of how close they were from the get-go. Who knows? I will hope, but until I see that fax churning out the signed LOI, I won't count my chickens.

After the disaster of 2 years ago, where supposedly solid commits bailed on the Irish at the last minute, Weis told all of last year's recruits to either be firmly in or he basically didn't want them committing at all. So he knew last year (as much as he could) that he had very solid commits. He was burned on the previous class, but not last year. Lesson learned.

But you're right, until the letter is faxed, anything can happen. This kid would be a great get though...

If Shaq commits, can you imagine the possibilities to start the season in 2011:

WR - Evans (JR) Floyd (SR) Goodman & Walker (SR 4th yr)
RB - Wood (JR) Riddick (JR) Gray (SR)
TE - Rudolph (SR) Fauria (SR 4th yr)
QB - Crist (SR 4th yr)

We will have some seasoned players in skill positions on offense. Future looks bright to me!

I think your actually a year late on that. 2010 will probably be the first year where we will be legit national title contenders, but that's just my opinion.

I'd still like to see some more linemen of the same calibers as our WR and QB's. That would make me feel a whole lot better!

I heard he commited to Petey McWestcoast, but no one else heard it. Maybe Omar Hunter.

Shaq Evans scores three times before getting ejected

ESPNU 150 prospect Shaquelle Evans, one of the nation's finest pass-catchers, posted 180 total yards, caught an eight-yard touchdown, rushed for an 80-yard score and returned a punt 60 yards for his third score of the night in Inglewood's 36-20 win over Culver City (Calif.), the Daily Breeze reports.

Evans was ejected after a second unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for excessive celebration following his punt return. He said, "This is a rivalry game and I got a little carried away."

However, Evans' coach, Charles Mincy, came to his star's defense, "He's incredible. He is the single best player I have ever seen at this level. I thought it was totally unnecessary that they kicked him out. It puts him out for two weeks. The CIF needs to let kids be kids. He didn't get into anyone's face, he was just celebrating. It's over the top."

Yeah i have to admit some of the penalties in hs for excessive celebration are dumb...i mean seriously, spiking the ball or doing a little dance are not going to hurt anyone, as long as it doesnt get out of hand. Taunting is another issue in itself. I found another article on scouts irisheyes site. found it interesting, even though its a hypothetical 2010 preview, that people at scout.com must think Shaq AND Jenkins are going to be Irish in the end. lets hope its true. heres a link to the free HYPOTHETICAL article of the 2010 football preview.
