SteveM and DiveRightIn and SoCalDomer - Great points all of you! That just reinforces my point that he did know the ramifications and chose to disobey anyway. That makes his actions all the more puzzling. He had to know what would happen. So, is he gone for good? Someone brought out the point that he went and talked to high schools about this. What does that say about ND in the community if this is not dealt with harshly? I feel bad for the kid. I really do. He will probably come back to San Diego and go play for the Aztecs. That is a great party school!

By the way SteveM - awesome job working the word "conflate" into regular conversation! Not a usage you see every day!

You know, I just don't understand the point behind having the drinking age at 21. We want these "kids" to behave like adults but then we treat them like children. "I know you're an adult now Johnny, but I still think you can't handle a few drinks...you'll be able to handle that better when you're 3 years older." I was 18 when the federal government started dictating to states that they should change their drinking age or lose federal funding. It didn't change the fact that I had just left home and was on my own. And it didn't change the fact that I was going to do what I wanted to do. And, I think I turned out OK.

At age 18 you can smoke, vote, move out your parents house, go to war and do everything that an adult can except....drink. It doesn't make much sense!

I know lots of 40 or 50 year olds that can't handle their booze, so the age argument is subjective, at best. The ability to drink should not be dictated by age, it should be dictated by an IQ test. If you are too stupid, you are not allowed to drink regardless of your age. Or drive a car.

DiveRightIn - I am going to my first hockey game tonight as a season ticket holder to watch my LA Kings play your Phoenix Coyotes. Hoping to see Ivanans mix up with some of your bruisers.

If you have it, I'd like to see it. I could use a good laugh!! You know, I have googled myself before and came up with nothing. There are a couple other guys with my name who are google worthy, but I don't have a single hit on it.

Hate to say it but I haven't been keeping up with them lately. Went to a game last year and it was great fun, but I honestly don't know what this team is going to look like this year.

But what about the rest of us illiterate bastards?

DRI,

Oh right. Sorry...

I'll upload a care-package of f-bombs and double negatives to keep you guys sufficiently nourished with an MDR supply of inanity to last you through March.

Or until Charlie gets fired. Whichever comes first...

SteveM

P.S. Apologize for the Charlie grenade. I didn't realize I took the pin out.

A parent's nightmare. I hope Yeatman is not gone. I'd hate to see him at Duke.

At least we aren't reading headlines about players being accused of rape, beating their girlfriends etc. It is college, drinking happens.

I completely agree that it is not shocking that kids, underage or not, drink and party in college. Yes boys will be boys and kids will be kids - I totally get that and would support a change in the rules wholeheartedly.

However, the problem I have with the situation with Yeatman is that, after his first offense, he was told by any number of people what the ramifications would be should he commit another offense. He had this discussion with, at least, the judge, the DA, his lawyer, his parents, coaches, University administrative staff, his friends, and his teammates. All these people made it clear to him and yet he chose to disregard it anyway.

I know almost all of us drank in college. But if someone had told me that my scholarship, status with the team, and status with enrollment in the University could be jeaopardized by one more infraction, I would have the sense to not come within 100 yards of a situation that could be even slightly construed as a violation.

He let his teammates down, in my opinion. There is an unspoken promise on a team that you are dedicated to do whatever it takes to work as a team towards the common goal of the season. That includes, but is not limited to, practicing hard, going to class, staying healthy, not getting in trouble, and not doing anything that might take you away from the team.

College kids party. That is a fact. The other fact is that a football player at Notre Dame is about the furthest thing from being just a college kid. Right or wrong, that is the fact. Yeatman was given a chance and he didn't toe the line. Someone on this board once talked about life lessons. Well, here you go.

Just read an article that said for the time being Will Yeatman won't be playing this Saturday. He will practice with the team, but he will not be playing. Interesting. I think it is going to get worse for this kid.

Anyone with any legal expertise have any speculation as to how long this process could take for the SB DA to make a determination as to whether or not the original charges will be reinstated?
