IF ND Finishes 6-6, Is Weis Job In Danger?

If he goes 6-6, he should absolutely be fired. That would be 2 years in a row with BIG TIME underacheiving. With their schedule and ALLEGED talent, there is ABSOLUTELY no excuse for not winning at least 8 this year.

The closeness of the games is irrelevant. They should be kicking the crap out of half the teams on their schedule.

Wow you contradict yourself, you must be related to GD93.... In the other thread you just said you can't believe how people are picking us to go to the BCS and quote, "I would be ECSTATIC if we won 8 or 9 games", a lot different message than what you are saying here eh?

My points are not mutually exclusive. I would be estatic with 8 or 9 wins, because that is what they should win. 6 wins however is NOT what they should win. It would be back to back INFERIOR seasons with SUPERIOR talent. That to me would require a new Head Coach.

Feel free to disagree. However, my points are consistent.

To me, that is definitely the Head Coach's fault, but it doesn't necessarily require a change of coaches. I don't think you can underestimate what Weis has accomplished so far. He took an incredibly mediocre group of Quinn, Samardzija, Stovall, and Walker, and turned them into an offensive juggernaut. That is the ability of Charlie Weis. Is he guilty of perhaps misjudging his ability to sustain that success? Absolutely. But, if he learns from that mistake, who would not want his ability on the sideline? Plus, think about what a salesman he has been: After winning just 3 games, he convinced one of the brightest stars of all the Coordinators in the country (Tenuta) to take a LESSER position at ND, despite the fact that the guy was on a ton of short lists for a Head Coaching position. With those kinds of skills in the art of persuasion, is there any doubt that he will continue to recruit well, and be able to bring in great assistant coaches?

Now I for one think we will go 10-2 and maybe even 11-1 BUT IF ND finishes 6-6 again this season, is his job in danger?

It should be, but it definitely depends on the circumstances...

I think he has a 50-50 chance of surviving if ND goes 6-6.

I disagreed with those who said he should be fired if we went 6-6. He's such a master recruiter I think he had one more year after this year. But after watching Pitt, Mich St, and UM play today, 6-6 would definitely be a HUGE disappointment (even though we went 3-9 last year). Those teams looked awful...

I think 2010 will be the year his job is on the line if they just stink it up this season(highly unlikley). Show some solid improvement and fight in the game, he can go .500 and be ok. I cannot wait to see them!!!

I believe that a 500 record with the schedule we have this year is totaly unacceptable. Plus you have a new AD now, so I don't think Charlie will get as much leeway if White was still the AD

If you truly think ND will go 10-2, why even pose a question about going 6-6 and Weis getting axed? Do you think this helps recruiting? I question whether you are a ND fan at all..or perhaps a mole for another conference!!

If he goes 6-6 I think that he should really be on the hot seat for next year. I think 7-8 wins and a bowl game would be good for this year and hopefully propel ND to BCS bowl contention next year.

Hey I am predicting a 10-2 or 11-1 season. Not many are as optimistic as I am.

Just ask yourself if you'd bet a sizable amount of money on it and then reassess how many games you think they'll win. I'd bet 8 games.

Ron Zook is a master recruiter, but never has won a NC, so........

6-6 is unaccpetable, even much so after last year. No one fan should stand by the coach if we go 6-6. That would be 9-17 in the last 26 games.

6 or less wins and I will be very dissapointed with the experience and talent this team has...To go along with a mediocre schedule...Will CW be fired if he wins 6? Probably not. Anything less, there should be long consideration on his developmental skills...and his job. Like an above poster said, recruiting is only one facet of coaching...

Given our squad from last year, my personal bar is set at 0.500-- anything higher is a bonus, which sets the table for the big "show me" year in 2009.

I actually think that might be a good reason to keep Weis another year. Zook was fired after 3 years at Fla. Not enough time to get a full cycle of players through and establish what he really wanted to do, then two years later Meyer won it with what was mostly Zooks players. Basically what I am saying is that I want Weis to get a full cycle through, which to me means next year also b/c then his first class will be graduating. I think that Weis is a good coach and will eventually get a BCS win and hopefully a NC. So maybe I am more patient than some but I don't think 6-6 is worth firing him, unless we look like an absolute pathetic 6-6 which I don't see anyways.
