Thought it would be interesting for everyone to see what the "experts" at ESPN think about the Irish this season.

Mark May: 6-7 wins
Lee Corso: 8 wins (and he predicts a victory over Michigan)
Kirk Herbstreit: 8 wins (if we can beat Michigan)
Lou Holtz: 10-11 wins

Mary May and Lou Holtz Schtick On ESPN

Mary May and Lou Holtz Schtick On ESPN

Yep I called him Mary May. Honestly, I think the stuff between May and Holtz is schtick anyway and they are doing it for ratings and discussion. I am not sure either of them believe what they say half the time.

On College Football Now yesterday (on NFL Network) Mark Mayock said he thought 6-7 wins is realistic. I'm a little more optimistic.

I cant blame Mark May. Atleast he is giving us SOME credit that we improved. He will be surprised though. He only gets 1 in 5 of his predictions about ND right lol

I don't know if he believes it, but I know he has hated ND since Willingham was fired and since we beat Pitt in Weis' first game.

I just hate it. I can't stand watching the unbridled homer-ism from Holtz or the anti-ND BS stuff from May.

I hate how Lou makes himself look like a homeristic fool like this...it's sad.

Honestly, the spread between Mary and Herbstreit is not that wide. Basically what I see is 7 games with a +/- 1 factor. That's pretty fair.

look at our schedule and i bet you could pick 10 games we have a great shot at winning. This is the worst schedule we've had in as long as i can remember.

i'll use the old cliche men, one game at a time, and hopefully by the end of the year we're sitting in a very solid position.

Me and Lou Holtz are on the same page.

Kirk Herbstreit: 8 wins (if we can beat Michigan)
Lou Holtz: 10-11 wins
Golden Domer93: 11-12 wins

How could you leave out the best prognosticator in the know?

Its all schtick for ESPN and I wonder if they are saying exactly what ESPN wants them to say.

screw ESPN. i like herbstreit and the crew but mark may can go scratch. for him to be so outwardly against ND all the time is a disgrace. it's a shame ESPN fosters that kind of environment. i know a lot of people don't like ND but a lot of people do. balanced reporting would be nice from time to time, maybe that's why i like herbstreit so much.

A great shot at winning? I see 2 or 3: San Diego State, Syracuse, and maybe either North Carolina or Washington.

I see 10 that we have an OK shot at winning...I only see 3-4 that we have a great shot at winning.

In theory we could win 11 based on our schedule...hell, we could win all 12. But we do NOT have a great shot at 10.

Not that it matters, but I'll weigh in with my realistic point of view as well......

In my opinion:

great shot -- SDSU, Stanford, UW, Navy, Syracuse
decent shot -- UM, Purdue, UNC, Pitt, BC
50/50 -- MSU (UNC and/or BC could be here, but I went optimistic)
slim chance -- USC
