Now I for one think we will go 10-2 and maybe even 11-1 BUT IF ND finishes 6-6 again this season, is his job in danger?

i dont think you can put a number on it, i think it depends on how competitive the team on the field is. we could lose 5 or 6 games but if they are nailbiters to good teams i think he is safe.

He is safe as long as the product on the field as improved and looks to improve next year... Charlie is an unbeleivable recruiter and a great offensive coordinator, now he is learning to become a coach and I feel he is doing everything he possibly can to be the best coach he can be, now it all depnds if that plays out on the field.

I personally feel it will take a TON for Weis to get fired this year, but if we do lousy this year AND next year, I doubt a number 1 recruiting class will save him.

But this is all just a rumor...

All rumors happen to be my opinion, and all of my opinions happen to be facts... therefore, if we use the transitivie property we are able to see that all rumors are facts.

If Weis went 3-9 in 2005 and then went to BCS bowls in 2006 and 2007, would we even be asking this question?

That's kind of my point, a good season by Weis will wash it away. But you also have to look at everything else Weis has been able to do, bring in the best DC in the country and give him a demotion (Tenuta), have excellent recruiting classes year in and year out...the talent is finally here, now he just has to use it.

so glad im done with math! transitive is easy as all hell but after taking cal 2....dont even remind me of adding and subtracting

back on topic, i think Weis' job is secure....we're still somewhat young and next year will be the real evaluating season of how his recruiting classes are going to perform

As long as we don't have a losing record his job should be safe. If he doesn't win double digit games in 2009 he needs to go.

No, because that would mean a bowl game which is progress from a 3-9 season. Like many have said, the 2009 season is really important as his first class become seniors. My opinion, anything less than 9 wins in 2009 will be disapointing. I am predicting an 8-4 year this year!

I had this same discussion with some of my co-workers just the other day. In my opinion, it has to do with how we look, not just what our record show. If we field a team that sleep walks through most of the season like last year, I think he will feel some heat. But if we have a better year and show improvement both in performance and statistics, he will be fine as long as 2009 continues the up swing.

If you don't truly think we will go 6-6, why then even raise this non-sensical question. All it serves to do is plant a seed of doubt in the minds of recruits and lends credence to those who would like to see Charlie Weis get canned. The better question is how will the football world react to a 11-1 record and what bowl will we play in? Go Irish.

huh??????

there is something called optomism, you should try it:)

ok so we take the pessemists view of 7 wins(NDOM) and we take the optomists view of 11 wins so therefore we will win 9 or 10, just like I said :D

Hey I am predicting a 10-2 or 11-1 season. Not many are as optimistic as I am.

I don't think Weis will be fired this year, unless the team just absolutely stinks. There is no reason for this team to NOT be better than last year. The inexperience will be the Achilles heel this year, it will probably lose us a game that we should win. I will take that if the team is competitive. I don't know why, but I have a strange feeling that if we don't make a bowl, then Weis has hired his successor. (Tenuta)

Tenuta gives on average 4 press conferences the entire year. one of his recent press conferences he told the press "i have a [darn] good lawyer [so don't twist my words... or else]." you think he would want his first head coaching job to be at one of the highest profile schools in the NCAA?

he's an excellent coach. while only he knows his aspirations to be a head coach, one possible reason he hasn't landed a HC gig by now could be because he doesn't want one. He seems to me to be a Norm Chow kind of coach; excellent teaching and fundamentals, excellent as a coordinator, but could care less about alumni relations and being the face of a high profile program.

I think another reason that he might not want to be a HC is recruiting. I don't think his personality lends itself to be a great in home recruiter. He is a great teacher and X and O's guy, but I don't think he really enjoys going in to homes to sell himself and and a program. We could afford to hire him because we have Brown that is an astonishing recruiter.

You guys are probably right. I was going off of resume only, but you would think that if he wanted a head coaching job he would have had one by now.

I think Tenuta is a very good assistant coach which is why he has probably been in that position for several years.

With the recruits Weis is bringing in I think they would have to really stink up the joint for his job to be in danger after this season. We haven't had recruits coming in on both sides of the ball since the Holtz era, this really helps Weis out for at least this year. But I do believe he has to have a successful season next year if for some reason we're not playing in a bowl this year.
