Anyone else read the article on ESPN.com about Joe Pa and the "up scale" recruits he brings in?

Since 2002, 46 Penn State football players have faced 163 criminal charges, according to an ESPN analysis of Pennsylvania court records and reports. Twenty-seven players have been convicted of or have pleaded guilty to a combined 45 counts.

Most recently, former wide receiver Chris Bell pleaded guilty July 22 to making terroristic threats for an April incident in which he pulled a knife on a teammate in a university dining hall.

These criminal charges coincide with concerns from a former player, a recruiting analyst, local media and others that Penn State has pursued recruits who are good athletes but might have questionable character issues, in order to improve performance.

Ya think????

I like "Miami of the North" but State Penn isnt to bad either.

State Penn is a really good fit. I caught part of a story on this on Sportscenter Sunday morning. Paterno came off really bad IMO, he was very defensive when he was on camera. It is time for him to turn over the reigns.

You know, I don't care for PSU either, but if this was our team ESPN was covering we'd be screaming about the ND hate. I believe they have some issues, but as usual ESPN has sensationalized one more story in the qwest for ratings gold.

I do think JoePa needs to go, though. He's reached that point where he's willing (or has no clue) to overlook things and then claim it's not true without getting the facts. He's set in his ways and he should have mentored a new staff to come in and replace him several years ago.

No kidding... SC has had just as many run ins with the law or shaddy goings on as PSU, wouldn't suprise me if it were more.... ZERO mention... but ESPN does have a multi million dollar contract with one of the two schools... want to guess which one??

i hope lalota doesn't see this as an opportunity to play right away......

Or he can view State Penn as a "troubled university" and one that he needs to stay away from (are you listening mom and dad?)! Go to a more credible and disciplined university (ahem .... ND) and get a great education and a chance to play with a team that is on the rise to college football prominence!!!

It shouldn't matter with Lalota since both of these guys play DT rather than DE like Lalota. Another guy to think about is Glenn Carson

I can't believe I forgot about Jenkins, PSU is a MAJOR player in his recruitment. Major meaning the PSU is supposed to be one of his 2 front runners.

Notice the end of the article states "Paterno said last week that he had not made a final decision yet on the players' status for the regular season."

Penn ST Hater,

So what's the vibe like in your state about all this stuff. Is the proverbial 'ish' hitting the fan? Wish we were there!
