Historic Flash Flooding in Indiana

First time I've ever had school canceled for rain.

Parts of Muncie are being evacuated. Instructed to remain home unless asked to evacuate.

I've had to file a claim for roof damage which has now turned to wall/window damage.

Rain looks like it will continue for the next day and a half or so.

The local news was at a former middle school of mine yesterday reporting on the power polls that the wind took out. There were like 5 or so just laying on the ground right in front of the school.

Stay safe. I have a large portion of my family in the New Castle, Yorktown, Muncie area. My parents have water under their house at the moment. My uncle had waste deep water outside his house this morning (his house is up on a hill with water threatening).

I've had my share over the years. My insurance company hasn't been bad to deal with. Just don't be in a rush. Take your time and check everything out before agreeing to anything. Most importantly, stay safe.

The pop up tornado and deaths on Geneva Lake freaked my wife. Now any chance of storms and we don't take the boat out.

Yeah, there's been 40-50% chances of thunderstorms almost every day in July and August after being in the 50's and 60's all June.

It's not the first summer I've questioned boat ownership, but it's probably the worst I can remember.

A couple things to consider... You should switch insurance companies every 2-3 years regardless of the circumstances because they'll raise your rates anyways if they think you're a "loyal customer" who won't leave. Also, if they low ball you but you want the money you can accept their offer but not sign a "release" (you can sign a receipt acknowledging benefits received), which would allow you to still take legal action against them for unfair claims practices and/or insurance bad faith.

We had some really heavy storms all night here on the IL/WI state line. Hopefully, it stayed north of you guys.

A few weeks ago BAM (a local weather group in central Indiana who I trust as much as anyone can trust a meteorologist) described a “Ring of Fire” pattern where high pressure set up over the plains and Illinois and multiple rounds of rain and storms would fire on the outer edge, moving from SW Wisconsin/NW Illinois, down through Indiana. They called it almost perfectly. While we got 5-6” up here in NE Indiana, we’ve been spared the worst as compared to EC and Central Indiana. What’s insane is that in a normal this time of year, we’re normally in a deficit and go weeks without measurable rain.

Indy station WXIN 59 has us in here central Indiana with rain only on Wednesday so maybe that'll help with areas that got flooded

My parents were camping in their travel trailer on a spot backed up to the white river. They were eating at Chili's when dad got a phone call that the campground was being evacuated. Couldnt belive how much the water had risen in the 2 hours they were gone.

My biggest gripe with BAM is that you have to be on FB for their free live streams. I deleted all of my social media a couple years ago, so I have to rely on my wife pulling up their reporting during a storm. They do offer their live streams via an app....which is subscription based. I don't understand it. Why make someone pay for the app when the FB stream is free?

Loss of life is always tragic, but I'm glad that article pointed out the bridge jumper and the cyclist who rode around a barricade in the middle of the night. I feel for their families, but good grief, how stupid.

Yeah, definitely a very sad situation. Certainly not trying to talk badly about a deceased person, especially one so young and with his whole life ahead of him. It’s just crazy to me what goes through a person’s mind to do something like that.

My wife and I talked about it over the weekend, and we were like, “As parents, it would never occur to us that we need to have a conversation with our kids about not jumping into rushing water.” But like all kids since the dawn of time, they do dumb things. Sometimes you walk away from it with a “live and learn” situation. Other times, you aren’t so lucky.

Definitely sending prayers to that family. I can’t even imagine.

If that is their site right off 465, that is crazy. The size of the hole in the ground is hard to comprehend. It's massive. That bridge over Hazel Dell Parkway is pretty new IIRC.
