My original thread for your favorite recruit in '09 was a little vague and became a little chaotic, so here is my attempt to keep the conversation a little more focused. I am looking for all of to tell us who your favorite uncommitted recruit and why. Please try to convince all the rest of us why your favorite is best bring... don't just say "Joe Schmoe because he is good". Let's stimulate some quality analysis out there.
My favorite is WR Marlon Brown out of Tennesee. This kid is the playmaker CW's offense will make a bonafide star! At 6'5", Brown is a nightmare for defensive coordinators all over the country. He is a natural mismatch for any DB (too fast for safeties - too big for cornerbacks). I think that with his incredible hands, great speed and elusiveness, Clausen and Crist will get a target that is worthy of their hype. Brown's highlights show a ridiculously talented athlete who knows how to put the ball in the end zone. :bbanana:

You're good now I deleted the other one.
Now for my favorite left on the board, I would say Chris Watt. We all know his talent is elite, but it would be a good testiment to the staff's hard work.

Wow. That's a tough call. Brown would be a huge get, but I'm thinking about a bigtime linebacker like Manti Te'o or Carlo Calabrese if we're talking truly "favorites" here. They would add some speed and real grit (judging by videos) to a defense that Tenuta is trying to perform a slight makeover on by giving it more attitude. Those guys have plenty from an intangible perspective, and the defensive playmaking ability to either stop the run, or hit a quarterback hard enough for him to remember it for several days.

Does anyone know why Carlo Calabrese has not recieved an offer from Penn State?Has anyone on this site seen him play? How is Verona's competition?

I have quite a few:

OT Eric Shrive
OT Xavier Nixon
WR Bryce McNeal
DE Devon Kennard
DT Jamarkus McFarland
OG Nick Alajajin
WR Marlon Brown
DB Dre Kirkpatrick
RB Lamar Miller
TE/WR Dion Sims

Hopefully all will end up Irish, a man can dream can't he?

My favorite is Cierre Wood and he is already Irish, so I will go with Jelani Jenkins. He is by far my favorite noncommitted prospect.

I don't know why he doesn't have a PSU offer. I do know he is camping there this summer and really wants an offer from them. I hope for ND's sake they don't offer because they'll instantly jump into his top 2 or 3 teams.

I think a quality offensive lineman may be most important, but it's not a glamorous position. So, I'm going with Manti Te'o. Maybe the best linebacker available along with Jelani Jenkins. With the 3-4 defense, linebacking depth is extremely important and adding Manti would be a phenemonal addition. Plus I really like the island kids; they bring a nasty attitude and always seem to have emense strength.

Thanks Mattmags, I was hoping this thread would generate some discussion among the faithful. I have stopped worrying about our IE brothers and sisters following directions. Who knows maybe just the recruits name will start something.

Okay to be honest I hope we land a stud OL more than anything. But I really hope we offer QB Allen Bridgford.

I think its imperative that we get a stud safety this year because of all the question marks after this year, 2008. David Bruton is a Sr, Kyle McCarthey is also a Sr (he may have another year of eligibilty though but who knows), the lone Safety we recruited last year will be coming of a major injury, and is Harrison Smith going to be a SS or is he going to grow into LB. I also don't know how the other safeties(Sergio brown...etc....) we recruited are doing. So I would like us to go after DeVonte Holloman! I don't know what the chances of getting him are but he seems to be the best safety on our radar!

Good Point! Adding a safety seems very important.

I'd like to see us get a guy like Ray Ray Armstrong. There will always be a place for athletes. He plays some safety, but to think he'd play there for the Irish is probably no more than a dream. I'm sure John Tenuta would love to have the flexiility of someone with his size and talent. Zibby snuck in as a linebacker type position last year and now we're considering doing the same thing with Harrison Smith. How awsome would it be to have someone with his size lining up at safety.
Never mind. Let's get another stud O-lineman.

The staff has told him QB is not out of the realm of possibility either.

If you are going to gamble on another athletic QB, this would be the year to do it with Clausen and Crist already in the program.

I like Manti Te'o. I think he can really help out our Defense and like another poster said, get a guy from the island, get some island material on this team.

I am going to have to respectfully disagree with you Grizz. I think Marlon Brown, Calabrese and Nixon would be "homerun guys". Cierre Wood was already a home run!!

I think I could make it from 43 in the thin Colorado air. I say get some OL recruits instead of a kicker and give the current kickers another shot.

That kid from Texas could hit 75 yarders. He has a long of 53 in a game.

I don't think a kicker is the biggest need though. I have to say my favorite non commit would have to be Carlo Calabrese. He would be a great inside linebacker to add to the 3-4 look.

we do need a kicker. how long do you think the avg kickoff was last year? I don't know the exact stat but i don't recall too many touchbacks if any. We need to give the defense more room to work and if they do their job it will give our offense a better field advantage. And rember the navy game! If we would have had a kicker that charlie trusted we would have won that game not lost it in the 3rd overtime!
