Rutgers takes a stand against Notre Dame

.....As you may already know, the university is a member in good standing of the Big East Conference for athletic competitions it does not consider to be part of the religious experience. For the divine game, football, league opponents were long ago brainwashed to bow and accept the Notre Dame credo: Too sainted to play in your conference, too special to step into your house if it does not meet our dimensional specifications. That is, until Rutgers stood up last week, walked away from a proposed six-game series, refused to move its home games an hour north to the Meadowlands just for the privilege of playing in a stadium that would be half-filled with Notre Dame fans.......

I disagree...college football is a business in today's world. By moving the game to the Meadowlands, BOTH schools would make more at the gate to help their programs and their schools. After all, its not like were talking about a traditional rivalry where home/home games have more of an impact tugging at heartstrings.

No. Rutgers would probably lose money if the game were to be moved to Meadowlands because they would have to rent the stadium first, and then pay for staff that Rutgers already has for their own stadium. Bad deal for Rutgers.

I'm with KAPLAN, we offer a chance for Rutgers to get some national exposure in a big time stadium and they crap on the idea because we do not want to play in their campus stadium. You don't see Army and Navy crying when we don't play at Annapolis or West Point. They love the attention they get from these "quasi-home games". So now people are griping that we look "elitist", I say "SO WHAT!". I could understand how a traditional power would hate this idea, but Rutgers, give me a break.

Personnally, I do not want to disrespect Rutgers for making their choice. ND seems to hold the university in high regard for their commitment to their program and to their athletes. Similarly, when a recruit chooses another university, best of luck to them.
Home & home scheduling is the norm in college football. ND wanting larger venues for some future games may not work for some universities and may be attractive to others. If roles were reversed, how many students would go to a ND home game in Chicago to play Ohio State or LSU? Opponents use ND as a showcase game and a measuring stick for their program. Potential recruits for Rutgers would be stand on one of the Meadowlands' sideline.
I do not think ND can realistically ask large venue off-campus games from "top tier" programs. So, the schedule may be (or may not be) less competitive each game - or ND makes true home & home contracts.

Dude, they wanted home games played at home. We would not give them one. They and everyone else would be right to tell us to go to hell.

Army and Navy love the attention with us out of tradition AND their home field is not a big deal to them...not like all the other BCS teams.

Our stadium seats 80k only as of 10 years ago. When I was a student in 95 and 96 our stadium held 58k.

Cowherd spent an hour on this today... first we stated breifly he can't blame ND for asking, then he spent 40 minutes doing just that... he went from I agree with Rutgers to ND isn't even that popular anymore because they get 2.4 TV ratings to USC is awesome b/c they get 2.0 ratings to ND is dumbing down the schedule which is pusssy (see UConn, Army, Pitt, BC as proof to that) to SC plays anyone and are gods on the grid-iron (see, Virginia, Idaho, Hawaii, Arkansas as proof for that apparently) all in record time... then ended with, "I don't hate ND, All I'm saying is win a bowl game!!!!" as well as stating "and I'm no SC homer"
