Sorry but this needs to be said. RE: Anybody See? post.

I received an infraction for something, and I am still not clear why. I didn't use offensive language, I merely stated an opinion. Clearly there are some rules on this board that are not clearly defined, as in the use of language. A quick search for the typical vulgarity comes up in spades, so what gives? None of those posts were deleted, closed or infracted upon. (Is that a word?)

And I am still awaiting my reply PM as to why I was given an infraction, did some people get out of hand? Probably, I wasn't one of them. I called no one names, and even if I did boo freakin hoo. We're all adults, build a bridge and get over it.

Yes I am fired up, because in mosts cases when I am wrong I'll own up to it and move on. In this case I am not in the wrong. And if this is the way the board is going to be run I'll just check out now because I don't really want to be around a bunch of goody goody lovey doveys.

i saw it. an unfortunately this isn't the way to handle your complaints. i'm glad to hear you PM'd the mods. just wait. the board hasn't been as busy lately, so i doubt they log on as frequently. But they will respond to you.

But, when a dispute with the mods arises, the #1 way for it to spiral downward is to "out" them and try to get the non-mods on your side in a dispute.

I have no dog in this fight. But what's happening in this instance takes it down a road I've seen in the past and it's usually not effective.

This wasn't directed at anyone in particular, and was a general post in regard to the state of the board. I am not calling anyone out, as no names are mentioned.

I recieved no PM so I assume none was sent to me... as for your infraction I did not give that either but what was being said in the thread in question was way too far... simply do not use sexual explicit language along with foul language along with sexist language and so on and so on and so on...

no matter who isn't about... dropping a curse word in frustration usually won't get you anything but what was being said in that thread by more than a few posters was horrid

All the mods saw it. I can assure you that while I understood your point, it could have been made in a more tasteful way.

Let's please not forget that this board is not just frequented by Football Guys like us. It's a diverse crowd from a gender perspective.

Don't sweat it overall. This is no change in style of management and you only received a warning. That's all.

We try to be relaxed about how we manage the board and sometimes we just like to remind people to have a little consideration at times.

These things happen... Believe me there are multiple people in this thread alone that have recieved infractions. I'm not saying take it with a grain of salt, but a single infraction isn't much to worry about

So surely they would have deleted posts referring to her as a "cooze" and a post containing not only typed profanity but a video clip containing an unedited F-bomb.........oops.....no they didn't.

Since we are all volunteer mods and such, we don't catch everything. And sometimes it's just about "taste".

Such is life on a public board.

I'm not sure why it's such a big deal. Very few posts are ever deleted, and if they are.....there's probably a reason. Not everyone in ND land wants to see that crapola. Especially if it's a thread where one may not expect it, thereby avoiding such dreck.

Offensive....no

Here is how I have been moderating the forums. As long as the thread is titled in such a way that viewers read the content at their own expense, leniency might be available to a reasonable extent. But if there is unnecessary vulgarity or offensive material, I will either ask the poster to edit their posts or delete them myself.

Why do I do this ? In addition to my own personal beliefs about the representation of Notre Dame, this site is based on mature and intelligent discussion.

As far as incongruencies in the moderating of language and material. Keep in mind that we're just volunteer moderators who get on and try to enjoy the site as much as we can while making sure it's a decent place for discussion. I personally do not go through every thread but I try to get a good handful of them and make sure everything is running as it should be. I'm sure the other mods follow the same routine, we just don't get at every thread.

However, many times, including a few posts from the thread which started all of this, other members will report posts as being offensive or inappropriate which will alert our attention and elicit a much quicker response.
