Also should be noted, conferences make a lot of money from their conference championship games. Unless or until those are replaced by more CFP games (which seems likely over the next couple years), the power conferences will do everything in their power to protect the conference championship game losers. Otherwise, teams may just start opting out and they'd have a mutiny on their hands.

So the committees jockeying of Bama and ND is most likely just a simple way for the committee to protect Alabama from being jumped by an AT LARGE team should they lose (such as Vandy or Miami). The fact that ND and Bama are "the most discussed pairing in the last 2 years" does not protect Bama from being flipped back with Notre Dame with a Bama loss in the CCG. I believe Bama could still be knocked out completely with a convincing loss and a BYU win.

If "who is better" between Bama and ND was really decided on, 'Alabama's "great, gutsy 4th down call" and road win at Auburn as a factor in placing them ahead of Notre Dame in the fifth rankings release', they are going to do whatever they want and none of us are going to figure it out.

Well, maybe @burmafrd1944 . He seems to have a good pulse on all of this.
beats having no pulse at all like you

This makes sense. ND odds getting worse and Miami odds getting better.

I feel like Brice usually really knows his stuff but I’m not sure what the benefit is of BYU getting blown out vs just having a competitive loss. Unless he thinks BYU could somehow jump us with if they lose a close game

Maybe hoping that both Miami and ND get in with blowouts of Bama and BYU, with the risk of Miami jumping BYU and ND if BYU loses a close contest.

He acknowledged he was dead wrong last night on his projections, though.

Because everything we need to happen is heavily in our favor, and it's pretty clear cut what needs to happen. Nothing Miami needs is in their favor or even easily explained. If Miami has been behind ND for a while now, and they didn't jump them this week, what makes anyone think that they jump them while both are idle? I think looking back, it's a blessing they had Bama jump us as it's in our favor for them to get beat and drop between us and Miami (if it plays out that way). Bama is going up against the best team (In our favor) in the SEC and BYU is going up against the best team in the state of Texas (In our favor).

ND's odds are right where they should be.
We had four games last week that could have helped us and none of them came through. Let's hope Karma is in our favor this week.

I have placed the following bets on Caesars:

-bama +2.5 & BYU for +867
-BYU for +400
-Miami to get in for +600

there that should guarantee us getting in.
I put together a doomsday parlay last weekend and hit on it. Lol

Bama +115 vs UGA in CCG
Bama +700 to NOT make playoffs

Seems like a very juicy arb opportunity to me. 3 loss Bama making the playoffs does not compute to me.

BTW - Screw UGA for playing Charlotte, Austin Peay and Marshall in the same year.

Is there a world in which UT jumps Miami with UGA and OSU wins improving their strength of record?

I think the CFP Comminissioner going on Golics show of all places and explaining how ND is better than Miami and BYU is a great sign.. I mean I personally would be freaking if he went on another show... like for a miami alum... and explained how the head to head is still up in the air or how close Miami and ND really are

Yeah unfortunately each one of those was a long-shot - this week, we just need some chalk/slight upset of UGA over Bama (not because Bama is better, but because Kirby seemingly cannot beat Bama)

I think that shows how meaningless conference championship games are now. The conference should just select a champion based on results and then have 4 play in games for positions 9, 10, 11 and 12.

I guess I'll join the insurance gambling party.

I just did a two team parlay:

BYU +410 and Miami to make the playoffs at +430 (since one can't happen without the other might as well combine them) for a combined odds of +2600.

So my $250.00 wager will payout $6,757.50

Do these numbers in black and white help anyone else realize how much of a long shot this is?????????????????

Also for the non bettors out there that may not truly understand odds, I think it should be mentioned. My gambling group of buddies (fyi 2 have WSOP bracelets) look at odds like this:

Even money to +150 sweet spot
+300 and +750 "Long shots"
+750 to +1250 "donations"
+1250 and up "Lotto tickets"
