How much impact should the freshmen have on the team in 08'?

I for one, really hope that no more than maybe 4 have a big impact. Those guys are Rudolph, Cwynar, Floyd, and then maybe Fauria or Johson. I think having too many freshmen having impacts on the team is a bad thing for a couple reason. First, we already have enough talent in the Sophomore and Junior classes and I believe having Freshmen get playing time over them would mean that the talent in those classes isn't as good as we thought it was. Also, 95% just aren't ready to play college football and having to resort to them doesn't bode well for how many games we'll win. What do you guys think?

I personally feel we could start only our incoming Freshmen class and probably do better than 3-9 last year, maybe this was Charlies plan all along.

I personally think that if you lined up omar hunter on every snap of every single play of the entire game, we would win by 7 regardless of who else was on the field.

Guys,
Let's hope we need minimal impact from the freshmen this year. If you look at each position, here are my thoughts on the impacts.

QB - Dayne will most likely redshirt with Jimmy and Evan in place.
RB - Jonas will also redshirt with our current 3 horsemen taking the duties
WR - Floyd will be impossible to keep off the field. Goodman and Walker will get a season to mature.
TE - Both Fauria and Rudolph may get on the field. If Yeatman is back and Luke works out at TE, they may not be needed immediately.
OL - I believe they will all get to redshirt unless injuries at guard force Trev into the lineup. Depth is solid at tackle and we have two deep at center.

DL - This is where we will possibly see multiple players make big impacts. Ethan, Newman, Cwynar, Hafis will all get a chance to play some minutes. This is especially true if Kuntz does not return, although today he was at spring practice which is a good sign.
OLB - Fleming will most likely get some minutes due to his talent.
ILB - McDonald and Filer may get time because of their talent and size.
DB - None of the freshmen will have to make an impact this season since we are so deep at both Safety and CB.

In the end, only Floyd and the TE's may be big impacts as freshmen on offense. On defense, several DL and a couple LB's will most likely make an impact. The good news on this situation is that we are getting deep enough that we are not desperate to have young guys thrown in the fire.

Nice job Jonesy, I was thinking alot along those same lines. Most of the impact will have to come on D, with out line being thin, and our LB's being as talented as they are. I don't necessarily think they will make an impact, but they'll get PT.

jonesman you said it brother. our linebackers are deep with talent and with gray and others coming back in our secondary it should be solid. dline is a weakness due to the thinness but offense we should be straight on. maybe trevor but not much else. i read somewhere that the te are busting thier butts and looked good. so for now ill raise a glass and say a prayer irish are moving up the boards. (i dont care what espn says)
