I have a picture of Omar Hunter on my desk to remind me constantly not to rush into love with these recruits, I am holding off on this one but deep down I have begun a man-crush.

Oh yeah! I like him as much as any recruit in the country over thae last few years. I think he will be a mix between Reggie Bush and Adrian Peterson

What about Barry Sanders and Ricky Williams?

No pressure there! LOL

But if he wants ND, I am sure he will know what to expect.

From hearing this looks like it's going to end up being a three way race between ND, UCLA, and USC.

I also think that it's really positive that he's willing to spend his own money to fly across the country to visit ND. To me it shows that he has real interest in the Irish.

He is very good but he supposedly plays competition far worse than Clausen did. I want him to be Irish though and I think he will be!

that's pretty awesome. I thought for sure this kid was destined to go to USC.

From what I have read posted and from a couple of early March interviews done on Scout, Wood origionally said he would wait for later before committing, and then said he might change his mind and commit earlier if things were right for him. take that FWIW.

None of us knows and won't know until the next interview what he thinks, possibly after this weekends B & G game....

Why is he in the verballed prospects section? I'm not seeing anything that says he's announced...

I have one concern, what's with the reported 4.57 forty time?
First off forty yard dash times are overrated plus you can't go by what these article and databases say because I remember a couple of years ago the databases were listing Joe McKnight with a 4.7 forty time.

The kid is a stud and while the rankings aren't all that you don't have the #3 overall ranking on Rivals because your decent it's because the prospect has special tools and if you possess them then chances are that you can be a special player.

His high school stats are un-friggen-believable...

Does he play in one of the smaller/weaker divisions? Obviously he is extremely talented regardless of the competition level but 42 TDs?? Very, very, very impressive. Glad to have him.

He seems well-spoken, hope he steps up like Crist and is one of the leaders of his class.

I love you guys. This is something so great to come home to. My lacrosse team lost because of an illegal stick penalty. The stick wasn't illegal, there was one ref and he was incompetent. We tested the stick after the game in front of the ref and it was completely legal. So we lose, I come home to this, and I'm happy again.

Don't they check them before the games?

Not to take anything away from either of them, but Darius Walker had 46tds his season year. Anyway, Wood seems like he will pair well with Jonas Gray, thunder and lightning or something.

The level of competition is something that often comes up for people from smaller football states. But I think in the greater LA area (those in ventura countym don't take offense that i included you in "LA area"), it would be hard to say all of the competition is weak, regardless of division/league. Plus, if the competition were that weak, there would be many backs in that league putting up those numbers.

But i think the bottom line is CW and co want him, rivals and scout have him as the top back, and he wants to be at ND. those are qualifications enough for me.

You're right, let's hope he becomes the west coast recruiting coordinator to get Barrett and others on board.

Not to say that Darius wasn't a good back and his numbers were quite gaudy, but Cierre is on a who new playing field than him coming out of high school. Cierre's numbers aren't gaudy they are down right insane. This kid is the game breaker that ND hasn't been able to pull in in a long time. If what everyone is saying is true his Jr film will be on par with dare I say it Reggie Bush. He is that good

Cierre's Jr season stats

197 total touches 42 tds

176 Carries
2612 yds WTF
34 tds

7 catches
191 yds
2 tds

7 punt returns
373 yds (53yds per return?)
4 tds

7 kick off returns
307 yds (43yds per return?)
2 tds

he also had 63 tackles, 3 int's on defense and 20 punts with a 40 yard average

Did a little searching for some video of him:

WeAreSC.com - Video: RB Cierre Wood

The video quality isn't great but you can start to see more of why he is ranked as such an elite player (other than the impressive offers).

It's interesting how he seems to be their punter... it allows them to go for the first down A LOT. Even when he does punt it away he has a 40 yd average, which is not exactly shabby. Makes me wonder if Charlie would use him in that role - maybe line him up as either the punter if we were across the 50 or alongside the punter for a possible direct-snap.

From watching him it seems what he has more than speed or power is vision and some tough-to-see moves. He just makes tacklers miss.

Great job by the staff of again getting someone that is not only a phenomenal athlete but also smart and someone with good character. Doesn't hurt that he is also the highest rated RB we have landed (potentially) in over a decade. Aldridge, Allen, Hughes, Gray, and Wood.... what a great group.

I sucked it up today and purchased a one month membership on scout.com so I see this coveted jr video of him. I shit you not, there was not one of those plays on his highlight film. That film is pretty stacked. I would guess that he is the best athlete to come into the program since the Rocket. If you get a chance to see the video there is a run where he spins on a safety and it looks like he's being shot out of a cannon. Its absolutely amazing how he kept his feet.
