250th birthday this year yes.

Next year is 250th for the country too, pretty sure Trump talked about giant plans for that across the country. Like a giant traveling fair or something. All of that stuff costs money. Won't have another meaningful birthday for another fifty years.

I wasn't around for the Bicentennial, but I think that was a big deal? I know there is a ton of North Dakota Centennial decor/apparel (I collect some) floating around. I will likely be dead or in a nursing home by our Bicentennial, lemme have one big patriotic/home state celebration once dammit!
Bicentennial was huge. July 4th celebrations everywhere were amped up quite a bit.

Like I said, I think the military parade is a waste of money, but I find it funny that lefties think Trump wanting to honor our military on its 250th is all about satisfying his ego.

Isn't this what some have been saying along? We need some immigrants working these jobs. Trump caved again

lol brother, this is at odds with everything modern capitalism has created. You can not be half pregnant on this.
I don’t really think so. I am generally against the idea of a minimum wage in the first place, but if we have in the past 90 years established that American workers are entitled to certain protections, I am against the idea of importing or utilizing foreign workers to undercut the American work force. I may not agree with the rules, but that doesn’t mean I have to agree with cheating against those rules

This is what happens when you have a developed capitalist economy and workforce, you have the "havenots" do the grunt work for pennies. This was always the outcome that was going to happen.

If you're not offering these people a pathway to legal residency and providing protections to them, you are not going to be able to staff these positions if your policy is "boot them all now". This is how capitalism works, maximizing profits. I find it pretty amusing that the concern for the "American worker" is becoming a priority for the GOP, not because of corporate greed, not because of the 2008 recession, but because of illegal immigrants working in fields.

If the DNC was a serious political party they'd put forth policies that are pro-union/worker, and stronger employment reforms. But, they aren't and will just run the same limp dick strategy.

Especially when undocumented workers make up only something like 5% of the entire workforce in the country and the GOP continues to work to erode the other 95% of American/documented workers rights across the board.

In middle school they had 1776-1976 murals on the walls of our school with bicentennial paintings. The bicentennial was 9 years before I attended. We where young, but still understood the pride from that time. We were also recovering from the Vietnam War at the time, so people were less than willing to see a huge military presence.
If you are an American and can't understand the celebration of our 250 year milestone of our liberty from British rule. You're probably too young to understand our history on any terms.

They're going to pay 14 million dollars alone to repair the streets from this birthday parade for our dear leader.

once again pointing at the truth that Trump is not some far right conservative and actually has the views mostly indistinguishable from bombastic 90s blue dog Democrat
Are you just now figuring out that he’s a RINO? He doesn’t have any views other than “what’s best for me?”

No, I’ve thought that since 2016. I’ve voted for someone else in the primary each time. I just think he’s better than what the democrats have had to offer
I appreciate it when you answer my questions (even when they’re snarky.) We may not agree on much, but I like being able to get civil responses from you. Thanks.

I mean, his entire economic policy of tariffs runs pretty counter to 90s democrat policy. I know I know, Nancy Pelosi made a speech which for the often duped folks that means it represented all Dem positions. Which is pretty interesting considering there was a Dem president in the 90s, the one their lord and savior Rush Limbaugh hated so it's surprising they forget about him and NAFTA. His "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy seems to be a tad different than Trump's pretty far out there approach.

Awfully charitable revision to Trump's image and policy stances. I think this sort of though is because his inability to put forth coherent policies and the fact he usually backs out of his positions. Which is why the diehards are too stupid to see his incompetence for what it is. They could get their hateful shit through with a mentally "there" Republican like Hawley. Of course, that message will never reach the base because they're getting duped on the regular by InsurrectionBarbie et al.

Trump’s views on LGBTQ issues would be to the left of any main stream politician in either party in the 90s. I think the mainline read on Trump is that he was a centrist democrat that campaigned on conservative rhetoric in the primaries but deep down didn’t believe it and was more pragmatic at best for most domestic issues. Even his recent centrist rhetorical turn to not deporting ag and service illegal immigrants is a pretty centrist pragmatic position.

And NAFTA is interesting, as the democrats voted 102:152 against it in the house and 27:28 against it in the Senate.

Not sure the guy who overturned Roe is that centrist. Again, this is all a very rosy and charitable view on his pretty modern Republican positions that can only be called pre-2000s Dem when his initial stance fails.

Yes, the Dems at that point still held a belief that you likely have now that it would offshore jobs so they voted against it.

He appointed the justices that overturned Roe and is vehemently against a federal abortion ban, leaving it up to the states… that’s a pretty pragmatic approach. I don’t agree with it but I think it’s pragmatic

Being the guy who overturned Roe is not the stance of a guy who would be a Dem in the 90s. Don’t think there were too many people at the Clinton primary trying that idea out of a spin.
