I really hope it’s not Williams because I think he’s going to be a stud and was much better in the playoffs than Price.

But if I were the GM from another school he seems like an ideal candidate to throw money at and try to poach based on what he’s shown and where he is on ND’s depth chart

I'd be absolutely shocked if it's Williams. If a back goes, I have to imagine it's Payne or Young.

It comes down to is ND willing to pay Price and Williams in particular to be “patient”

You have to likely pay Price and Williams like starters and Love like a superstar. If I was running the team, would I? Probably not. Do I hope other people do it with their money? Sure!

I would prioritize the following in order: Love, Price, Young (hot take but my opinion), Williams, Paul, Payne. Paul above Payne because of the "salary cap". Osborne and Bonner should demand more than Pail imo

I don't think you have to pay Price to be "patient". He's going to see a ton of time this year then could likely bolt for the NFL.

Williams/Young are the two I'd be "worried" about. I think Young has more upside and Williams is being slightly overrated by fans. Williams can do a lot of things well but isn't an elite back or elite ceiling back to me. Young is.

I hope both stay, but if the scenario/game we are playing is that one HAS to transfer and I have to choose, it'd be Williams.

He could receive more snaps at 90% of other schools. It is still the case where ND is likely in a position where they are/will be paying starter NIL for backup usage, especially if Williams also returned.

In fairness...he's known that for....over a year...and for every second after the season ended and has chosen to stick around...and given the way NFL views RBs, not sure more mileage on him really helps him a ton. He can show the NFL what he needs to here without the added workload.

He's also been pretty adamant that he is staying...and he's making damn good money at ND.

Generally, I think Payne is the Occam's Razor to leave. Williams or Young I could wrap my head around...but Price, I don't see bolting unless a school gets absolutely wild with an NIL offer.

You said it better than me. I think Young has some elite skills that are less replaceable than Williams' skills

Couldn't disagree more on Williams. Elite blocker, excellent hands, vision, never goes down on first contact. And that was all in his freshman year.

They were literally both true freshman last year. One of these two got significant time on a championship game team, in a backfield that has Love and Price. The other got mop up duty. Are we sure we have the right one pegged as elite vs not elite?

Not sure we’re talking in the same lane. I didn’t say I think Price is/would/could considering leaving. I said I wouldn’t pay all 3 like starters if it was up to me, but I hope ND does.

What number are we at currently and what number do we need to get to? Is it 105 now, or still 85? Admittedly, I haven't paid much attention to all that.

ND and Kedren agreed early on to a RS year. He also battled a balky hamstring last spring and Williams carved out a niche...

Yes? And my opinion was that Young has a higher (elite) ceiling than Williams. Williams might be the better back right now, but I think Young has elite tools and higher upside.

Fair enough as opinions are one's own. But I have a hard time saying a true freshman isn't an elite running back when he got the run he did, and on that team last year.

I mean...Williams isn't (currently) an elite running back. If we want to get into the semantics of it.

Love is an elite RB. Price could be. Young, IMO, in another season or two could be.

Williams, to me, isn't...and I don't think can reach that. He had a great freshman season. No one is arguing otherwise. He does a lot of things pretty well. He's an absolute dog. Really good football player. I want him on the team. I think he can be a damn good player at Notre Dame. He came in more ready made to play, but progress isn't linear and he has some physical limitation that limit upside. He reminds me more of Logan Diggs than Kyren Williams in terms of "upside".

We'll see. I'm not trying to come across as shitting on Williams...it's more so an evaluation of how good (great?) I think Young can be when comparing them and where I think their ceiling is. That's it.

Currently right now 85 scholarships with unlimited walk ons is the rule. Anticipating the settlement will be completed soon with a hard roster cap of 105 (can put as many of these on scholarship as you want, I believe ND is targeting ~95 on scholarship). Roster is at 114 I believe
