'08 MO FB/LB Will Compton (Nebraska Verbal)

Dan Hoch also decommited Nebrtaska today. I could tell you that Compton has been on the fence about decommiting for a while now. I know that he met with Pelini last week and somewhat solidified his commitment to Nebraska, but now I would expect this to put him over the top. He'll look at both situations and clearly see ND is where he needs to be. You could probably bet that Jonas "the recruiting specialist" Gray was in on this one as well. They are very good friends.

At first when I saw the headline I got concerned, thinking this meant that we had lost a linebacker recruit. But if he is being recruited as a fullback than this is great news. I think it's pretty obvious that this is our weakest position on the offense in terms of talent (as it is for most schools) and Will would be an excellent addition. Looks like we are getting the better half of the once-Nebraska recruiting class.

I don't see him staying at FB if he came to ND. Thats what he might be offered as but I believe he wants to be a LB and one way or another he IMO would end up there.

Another question. Nebraska has been hurt with decommitments right and left. Does anyone know how many have officially decommited since the coaching change? gotta be 10 or so right...

I'm still scared of Mizzou in this one, he's from there, and alot of his nebraska homies are going there, although we have gotten some too, we shall see.

Acoording to what his mom told reporters the staff offered him as a Fullback because they had only aloted so many spots on the defensive side of the ball, and those were basically full, but if he were to come he would have the opportunity to play ILB.

If that's the case I hope the staff is being honest with the LBs that are already committed..Compton looks like a solid player but if getting him means losing one of the others then this is a bad deal.

He's strictly being recruited as a fullback. Like GoshenGipper said, he will get a chance to try out for defense but he is being recruiting as a fullback and will start out there no matter what as far as I understand it.

Part of it is also just my personal opinion... We have 3 guys that will play ILB coming in... We don't have a returning ILB that was rated above 3 stars as recruits... Crum will be gone after this year... Things will be wide open for the second spot in 2008 and beyond that, things will be wide open and very competitive at both spots... I really can't imagine Compton being recruited as a FB and being told he will have a chance to try out for defense scaring the guys we already have off... They will all get a fair shake, and I think (hope) they all realize it.

Nebraska had one of the top classes just 3 months ago, but now they're not even top 25. Gray, Robinson, Hoch, Woods, Gabbert, Kuli, Givens, ect.

I was wondering as to why we would take another LB, but he's being recruited mainly as a FB with a shot at LB as well. At first, I was worried that we might have lost a LB. Now I'm happy. I hope he joins this stellar class. Go Irish!

I think Compton will absolutely end up at ND... I think Mizzou's chances went out the window when ND offered. He doesn't feel slighted in the least by how late the offer came, and I think that would be the only thing that would deter him from coming. Since that's not an issue, if his visit is even reasonably good, which I don't see how it couldn't be, he will be Irish. The kid LOVES Notre Dame. The kid's parents LOVE Notre Dame.

whats with all the hate on nebraska? it's only 2 for 1 on corn once you get past lincoln. lincoln and omaha are kinda normal...or as normal as a big city in nebraska could be. i want you all to know that there have been some good people from nebraska.... like warren buffett. but other than that anything other than lincoln and omaha is corn and cows.

o and just something to ponder. the state of nebraska has a 3 to 1 cow to person ratio

Well the defense is already pretty much full anyway. There was only one spot left before Omar decommited and that was at OLB/DE, now there's another slot open, but it's at DT.

I don't know anything about being excited for his visit, I would suspect he is cuz what kid would take a visit unless he's excited about it?

But it's absolutely ridiculous to suggest he's only considering schools that have a wrestling program. Compton is absolutely interested in Notre Dame. Very interested.

I have seen the info in question and it wasn't really an article. It was just a long post by one of their mods, and it didn't contain any quotes from the Compton family and it had a lot of slanted opinions in it as well.

Make the offer. With 20 additional pounds, he will either play fullback or middle linebacker. Has a good GPA. If the desire to play for ND is there, I say we take him...and soon!
