Guys,
With the addition of the 2008 recruiting class, ND will finally achieve depth unseen in South Bend in many years. We will no longer have to move bodies around just to create depth. This is much bigger than some people believe. With depth, you create competition, you sustain thru a long tough season and give more realistic practice looks.
On offense, we will finally have quality depth at every skill position. We will have atleast a half dozen WR's who put fear in a D, we have 4 RB's who could start anywhere, 3 QB's who have major college talent, 3 TE's who can catch or block and on the OL we have two deep 4 star talent at every single position. Imagine, this year CW should not have to address who will replace a starting guard or tackle if one gets hurt. We have a real live back up and not one who is playing C, G and Tackle. We even have back up QB's who have played a more than scout team. We can absorb a RB injury when it comes.
On defense, we still are slightly thin up front, but it is getting better. At safeties and CB's we are solid and deep. We have kids who can run and hit. At OLB, we are forming scary depth. We have youthful players who play with passion and experienced players who will only get better. At ILB, we are still a bit thin, but improving quickly. We have kids who got a year to mature and grow in 2007 that will contribute in 2008. On DL, we have several kids ready to blossom in 2008.
Overall, it must be exciting for CW to have a full roster of scholarship kids in 2008. I bet he is sleeping just a little better. GO IRISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I honestly think the keys to next season will be Crum on defense and Young on offense. If these guys step through the adversity of last year and become leaders to the younger players we will compete for, dare I say it, the NC next year.

Wake me up after National Signing Day. I'm scared we may lose a few more for some reason. Just have a feeling.

Not afraid we will lose anymore. I always thought Omar was the one we may lose. This class is solidly together and will reamain so. I am excited to see the 2008 Irish. I believe we are looking good.

I really feel good about this class and their commitments. however, i agree that i will not rest easy until NSD. i have a feeling we will all be scared about 1 guy in the final week.

Depth and the tackle postion(s) would be extra nice... we're still trailing in those spots... but it has been a nice turnaround on the recruiting front everywhere else

I agree pinoy...

Special teams are 33% of football games. Kickers and punters can determine the outcome of a game.

Finally some depth. Something we really haven't had in quite some time.

I agree that we are much better depth-wise than we have been in a very long time, but even with all the youth that played this year, we will still be very young. Hopefully the "kids" will mature quickly and give us what we all want so desperately...WINS!!:thewave:

This is a truly tmely thread. Depth has been the untold story of ND's problems on a LOT of fronts. There's another thread out there asking which incoming freshmen will start. Know what I look forward to? I look forward to the day, 2-3 years from now, when the question is whether any freshmen letter!

the only person im worried about losing is deion. early on he told reporters he loved nd but he did not like the environment outside of football. he said it seemed boring and never had nd on top until recently. i still think we keep him though.

That will be the joyous day when all teams in the NCAA once again FEAR us and the national media, in their normal two-faced style, show us nothing but LOVE.:)

That'll probably be the same time we look to incoming freshman to accomplish what Holtz always said was their #1 job. To BECOME SOPHOMORES!
